Oasis was turned away from Jamaica because of a Noro outbreak. Apparently there are 150 people sick on board. Not sure if it will be allowed to dock in Cozumel tomorrow or not. Do please keep us updated on the info you're getting ....

Oneluckywoman #55 Posted January 9 They just announced that everyone will receive a full one day of onboard credit based on what was paid in cruise fare, due to the jamaican govt. Not allowing us to disembark. We will be leaving for falmouth early and heading to Cozumel. I wonder if they will allow us off the ship there? The crew is having to work extra hard and are doing the best they can.
Canadian Tyler #56 Posted January 9 Captain just announced we are leaving Falmouth and heading to Cozumel. The Jamaican government did not let the ship let off the passengers. They are refunding the equivalent of one days fare. Of the approx 8000 people on board, captain said 2% are affected.
njkruzer #57 Posted January 9 Yep, about to pull out. The 2% figure is of the 8000+ people onboard including the crew. So the number of people sick isn't huge. Off to Cozumel now. DH said I can't spend the extra obc! We'll see.

Biker19 #59 Posted January 9 (edited) It was the most appropriate one I found that combined Oasis with noro. It is very rare that something has not already been discussed on CC. Edited January 9 by Biker19

Teacher42 #62 Posted January 9 July 13, 2018 166 posts Report post #25 Posted December 7, 2018 Alcohol kills influenza virus which is airborne.Rhinovirus is sensitive to acids ( vinegar, citric). Above 80 degrees at 81 degrees F there is no transmission of the influenza virus. It survives up to 4 days on surfaces and survives in the air at low temperatures, it needs to be wiped off.Cats and dogs do not get either.,only primates do. Avian influenza is not a major dilemma for humans for it is not easily transmitted to us and is not contagious from one human to another human. We take a large spray bottle of alcohol and another of vinegar to spray our hands after washing. We hit the room surfaces with everything including clorax wipes and we finally spend time with an utraviolet light wand charged up before we go. I still got sick the last day of the cruise from a cougher on the elevator.
Raycin #63 Posted January 9 This is just crazy. We’re hunkered down in our room because I’m so scared of getting sick. Captain says we’re all getting onboard credit. We already have onboard credit that we have no use for. Prepaid for everything before we got on the ship. Anything we can do about this? Is a credit possible? This is our first cruise in 15 years and will most likely be our last. Not just because of this, just realized we’re not cruise people.

vanelli56 #66 Posted January 9 Following along.... we sail on Oasis this sunday. But... my wife and I think we were sick with noro mid december....and from what I have read we would potentially be immune for about 14 weeks. So, fingers crossed we wont have to worry. Hope everyone makes a speedy recovery!
Canadian Tyler #67 Posted January 9 Yes the captain said if you do not use the onboard credit on the ship, it will be refunded to your method of payment.

Forgot to add, someone vomited in the casino's mens room last night. I just figured it was a drunk. Guess I was wrong. Is that one of the benefits of the SL, that noro isn't allowed in?

You either like it or not. As far as the Noro, it happens. Happened to us and sounds like it was handled the same way you are experiencing with staff giving you everything so no one touches anything to spread germs. Try to enjoy yourselves and keep washing your hands and watch what you touch. The CDC actually came onboard when our ship had Noro. I will say the crew and staff did everything humanly possible to get it under control.

We then can hear about it is from cruisers having a delayed boarding next sailing Edited January 9 by ONECRUISER

I don't mind a delayed boarding if it means a disinfected ship! I mostly feel bad for those currently on board & hope it stays contained. Both for their sake & our sailing as well!
