Thomson Majesty blog

Recommended Posts

I put quite a few comments on the Thomson blog, on their website which were very polite but also very truthful, they had the desired result and kick started long awaited communication with advisers contacting us with the info we should have had weeks ago, but they pulled the comments off their blog, obviously they don't like the truth being posted!

I too have posted on there I do hope Thomson realise how angry they have made the customers. What was taken off?

Question

We booked a Deluxe room on the Destiny and paid £795 (£1590) each to upgrade, we have been alocated a Junior Suite on the Majesty, however the cost of an upgrade from a basic cabin to a Junior Suite on the Majesty is only £420 each (£840). What I would like to know is will we get a refund when our new costings are done? or should I cancel the entire holiday

Answer

You wouldn’t be entitled to a refund as the Thomson Majesty is overall a more expensive ship and the supplements online are relevant to new bookings only. The holiday cost originally paid for Thomson Destiny is honored along with any early booking offers, free all-inclusive drinks packages etc. If you have any further questions, please contact our specialist team

Would you be happy?????

If you have not paid the balance would it be cheaper to cancel, lose the deposit and book again?

I posted that I still hadn't received any info whatsoever despite many phone calls and emails and that not to tell me to contact the Thomson fob off team, and I was appalled at the lack of concern and communication from Thomson once they had your money.

This really kick started a response I was contacted twice that day with apologies but no offer of refund or compensation and that the info was posted and emailed to me, of which I told them they they were not and that we receive everyone else's post except Thomson's, they also said it must have gone in my spam file, all total rubbish.

Any legal people on here? I seem to think that any comments regarding prices and individual booking may have been removed due to data protection etc and as they are on going (maybe complaints) they have been removed to protect us as customers and the company should this been taken any further. I may well be wrong though, I just recall comments on a scheduled airlines website I posted being removed when the issue was on going!

Last year I booked directly through Thomson Cruises to go on the Thomson Destiny on Friday 31st August 2012 for two week doing the Adriatic Explorer and Pearls of the Aegean. This would have been our 8th cruise with Thomson’s. We were really looking forward to the cruise as we did the same cruise two years ago but on the Spirit - it was fantastic. We then received a letter in March from Thomson's to inform us the ship had changed. The letter said we would receive a revised invoice and once this had arrived to contact Thomson’s to re-arrange our pre-booked cabin. Well I've waited and waited for the revised invoice but no sign of it.

Also last year we booked through Co-Op Travel to go on the Destiny in December 2012 going around the Canary Islands. We received a telephone call from the Travel Agent at the beginning of last week to inform us the revised invoice had arrived and could we let her know which cabin we would like. We got the cabin what we wanted and it was sorted in a moment of minutes. The Travel Agent knew I had booked the August cruise directly with Thomson’s and asked if I had sorted the cabin out for that cruise. I informed her that I was still waiting for the revised invoice and she advised me to call them as the invoices are sent out in departure date order.

When I got home I telephoned Thomson’s to find out where my revised invoice was for my summer cruise and which cabin I had been allocated. I spoke to a very unhelpful and rude lady at Thomson’s who informed me the revised invoices from end of July 2012 onwards had not be produced. I then tried to explain to her the Travel Agent had received a revised invoice for December 2012 and she kept saying “no they hadn’t, no they hadn’t” and she then said "whatever". In the end I had to quote her my December 2012 booking reference for her to believe me. I asked what cabin I had been allocated only to be told I was not allocated a cabin. When I asked why she said nobody had been allocated cabin until they phone up. She then said there were only three cabins on deck 4 available and all three were at the back of the ship. I booked a cabin at the front of the ship on the Destiny and would have never booked the holiday if I could not get a cabin at the front. I told her this was unacceptable and she offered me the last cabin on deck 3 at the back of the ship. Again I told her this was unacceptable. She said I could upgrade to a higher deck if I wanted a cabin at the front but it would cost me. The cruise was already costing me £4128.00. She told me if I was not happy to complain but Thomson’s don’t listen to customers complaints and it would be a waste of time. I carried on complaining only to be finally told "you can have a room at the back of the ship, move to a higher deck and pay the cost or cancel and lose your deposit". She hung up quite abruptly after this. I want to know what would have happened if I hadn’t called Thomson’s to re-arrange my cabin. If you go onto Thomson’s website you can book to be on deck 4. Would I end up without a cabin once I arrived in Corfu????

Anyway the next day I e-mailed Thomson’s to cancel the cruise, I lost my £380.00 deposit and I've booked to go on P&O Ventura to the Fjords on Saturday 1st September 2012 for 7 nights, balcony cabin (on deck C with double size balcony) and £150.00per person on board credit for £1079 per person.

I will do the Canaries cruise in December 2012 on the Majesty but this will be my last cruise with Thomson’s. It’s a shame as I’ve made good friends with staff over the years who contact me every month via e-mail. But I’m so annoyed with Thomson’s; they don’t deserve any business if they are going to treat their customers like this.

What a shame, to lose so much money. I think Thomson's have handled this whole changeover very badly, which has been well documented on other threads on this site. Have you taken it higher? Situations like this are going to cost them lots of business. Surely this is their fault if you had alraedy pre-booked a cabin, they should have been in touch with you? Think they have made a decision not to give free upgrades to prevent complaints later when other passengers find out that what they paid for has been given out free.

My local Thomsons have been great, called me straight away and explained things to me and then called again so I could go in and re-book my cabin, We booked the middle of the ship outside on deck 3 and when I want in I had three list ready to haggle as the ones in the middle were 4 berth and the 2 bed were under the resturant which I didn't want, so didn't think i would get a 4 berth but was given my first choice which was a 4 berth on deck 4 which is much bigger than what I booked. I was angry at first as we went on the Destiny last year and thats why I booked it again, but after looking at it, I think it will be alot better so fingers crossed. I hope everyone is happier on this ship once they get on it.
