NSWP #26 Posted December 17, 2013 Any good Welsh Cider Newport dave, or will I have to drink Thatchers, Magners or Strongbow next year?
newport dave #27 Posted December 17, 2013 Any good Welsh Cider Newport dave, or will I have to drink Thatchers, Magners or Strongbow next year? Sorry, not a Cider fan so no idea. All I know is if you find a Wetherspoons pub they will probably have a different Cider on tap as well as the usual brands. Koppenberg fruit ciders from Sweden are particularly popular in the UK at the moment. Don't know if you get them in Australia.

Cider is very popular here now, good summer drink. Several very good Aussie ciders too. Edited December 18, 2013 by NSWP
lemonjelly #29 Posted April 10, 2014 alas i can see the probs in having REAL real ale on board ship as the barrels and a moving ship dont go well together ,BUT there are literally hundreds of independant and micro breweries that produce bottled ales surely theres an opportunity for ships (boats) at least cruising out of uk ports to stock a few and educate our colonial cousins in proper beer ,and i dont mean the usual old speckled hen london pride etc etc ad infinitum brews but how about some of the genuine stuff ! titanic brewery, sticklegs brewery, yeovil brewery, arran brewery, elgoods, the list is endless and the drinkers are gasping ,all thats needed is a phonecall ore email to C.A.M.R.A.asking for guidance WHICH CRUISELINE WILL BE FIRST TO LISTEN AND ACT !none i sadly fear .:(

Denarius #37 Posted April 24, 2014 Sailed on Celebrity Silhouette last year. They had a specialist beer bar selling over 60 different bottled beers from all over the world - US craft beers, UK beers, even Belgian Trappist ales. Magic!
jocap #38 Posted April 24, 2014 Will there be some decent ales on Independence OTS out of Southampton, or will it just be lager/American beer?
SteveH2508 #39 Posted April 24, 2014 (edited) Will there be some decent ales on Independence OTS out of Southampton, or will it just be lager/American beer? Draught fizzy Speckled Hen - Trade Descriptions Act offence to call it Speckled Hen IMHO - it was vile - at least bottled Becks can't be f**ked up too much (my cruise beer of 'choice' unless I can get Warsteiner or Pilsner Urquell). Didn't see any other decent bottles (but then when I cruise I'm not in real ale mode - it is just too depressing). I suppose there might a bottle or two of London Pride or Bass hidden somewhere - chances of finding Tanglefoot, Summer Lightning, Hogsback TEA et al - none I'm afraid to say. Edited April 24, 2014 by SteveH2508

NSWP #42 Posted October 8, 2014 I wish P&O would put some real draught cider on their ships before I board Aurora and Oriana next year. Whilst their normal bottled/canned quaffers, Strongbow and Magners are normally available, nothing like a real cider, perhaps some scrumpy, or at least a Thatchers on tap. Being a Coleliac - gluten intolerant, cider is my quaffer, together with vino and most spirits.
Lordwanswell #43 Posted June 28, 2017 Much of this is outdated. It is possible to rack (transfer) real beer to small casks (often called keykegs) "bright" that is, without sediment. So the movement of the ship is irrelevant. I guess it is just too much trouble, which is a pity as bottled beer is no substitute for draught. Bottled is too fizzy for me, although stronger beers are better as they don't hold so much CO2.
lebreos #44 Posted June 28, 2017 My Understanding of "Bright " ale - having drunk a lot at a 3 day festival 2 years back is that it has a limited shelf life - not ideal for a cruise line trying to offer "consistency" in their service. they could be more adventurous with their bottled ale choices - however at least P&O have a decentish choice, an I'm not forced to drink lager all cruise when not on the wine at evening dinner...
WhirledKruzer #45 Posted July 4, 2018 Try a Cunard ship. They always have a good to great selection of draft and bottle beer/ale/IPA in the Golden Lion Pub. If they offer a beer tasting with a food pairing, sign up as soon as you can. The seats good fast
