Rare hammo Posted April 23, 2012 #1 Share Posted April 23, 2012 Can anyone give a definite answer to the disembarking procedure for Voyager Of The Seas in Shanghai please. The ship docks at the new terminal approx 45 mins from the city centre and it has been suggested that the following occurs -- ( courtesy of Ilovecruising2 who is a very knowledgeable contributor to these boards ) . " The immigration clearance is within the container port. There was this small building where we were taken to have our passports checked & stamped. In gist this is what happened: 1) Ship was docked at container port 2) Get off the ship, board a bus. 3) Bus ride only about 2 to 3 minutes to this small building. 4) Passport check and stamped. 5) Board the bus again, this time for a 45 minute or so ride to the cruise terminal nearer the center of the city. 6) At the cruise terminal, we could collect our bags. 7) Then most passengers would head to the taxi queue to get a cab. Will this be the case for our disembarkation on June 19 ?? I am trying to confirm a hotel transfer and do not know which terminal to arrange pickup from . It seems extraordinary that RC would bus the entire ship firstly to immigration , then to the other port ?? Cant imagine the time this would take .I have emailed RC but not had a reply yet . Any advice would be most appreciated.
Iluvcruising2 Posted April 24, 2012 #2 Share Posted April 24, 2012 See this: http://www.itourbeijing.com/china-travel/shanghai-guide/shanghai-waigaoqiao-port-cruise-terminal.htm Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port Cruise Terminal Guide -Travel to Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port Cruise Terminal Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port is part of Shanghai Port and is operated by Shanghai Port Group. It is located at Waigaoqiao in Pudong New Area in Shanghai. Waigaoqiao Port lies about 7 km east to Wu Song Port, 30km from downtown Shanghai, and 85km west to the estuary of Yangtze River. So ships larger than 87,000 tons will not get to the sparkling new terminal ( Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal), due to the low bridge on Huangpu River, and will have to berth at the scenic and relaxing terminal in Waigaoqiao, which, in rush hour, can be close to an hour’s bus ride from the Hongkou terminal. At best, Shanghai Waigaoqiao can handle four cruise ships at any one time. More than 100 international cruise ships are expected to stop by Shanghai every year. Iluvcruising2 Posted April 24, 2012 #3 Share Posted April 24, 2012 The Voyager is almost 130,000 GT. For a fact, it would not be able to dock at the cruise terminal near the city center. (Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal)
Rare hammo Posted April 25, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted April 25, 2012 Obviously I understand we are docking at that port -- it is the disembarkation procedures following that - having to catch a bus to the other port terminal etc. that you mentioned . We are arranging a private transfer to our hotel - they would pick us up at Boashan after docking but thats not much use if we are on a bus to the other terminal.
stowaway2k Posted April 25, 2012 #5 Share Posted April 25, 2012 the Shanghai port agent should be able to give you a detailed account of disembarking at any of the Shanghai terminals: wshops@pen-wallem.com
