Royal Caribbean Does Not Honor Agent Quotes

Recommended Posts

This past week, a friend of mine called Royal Caribbean to inquire about the price of a 7 night cruise on the Oasis of the Sea. Much to his shock, the booking agent said they must be running a fantastic special and that she could get us a balcony room cheaper than an interior room. Then, she quoted a price of $832.00 per person for a group of 4. I could not believe the price having looked for cruises for the past month so I asked for the phone, again, she told me that this was a GREAT deal and that we should book the 2 state - rooms ASAP. I told her that was a great price and left a large deposit followed by two additional payments. I was sent the invoice for the 4 people but could not open it because it requires the new Abode Reader. I pulled out my new lap-top, and the invoice was more than double what we had been quoted. Immediately, I called RCI to inquire as to the price difference. At first, they were very nice and said they would look into the matter. Finally, I got a call from a very rude man in the Customer Relations department. He told me that "he knew the woman that had given us the quote and he was not sure what got into her" then he said that it didn't matter because "Royal Caribbean does not HONOR MIS-QUOTES from THEIR OWN AGENTS." We are all Plat. Level members with RCI and I am about to go into full litigation with them. BEWARE. RCI is a dishonest company!!!

No companies have to honor misquotes. There was a large write up many months ago regarding a misprint on a car add. Companies are legally protected in the event of misprints, so unfortunately, what the consumer thought they would get a great deal on, they were wrong.

Is this much different than a store saying they're not honoring an add because of a mis-print (which happens ALL the time).

Now, IMO, they SHOULD refund your deposit & payments (if you so elect to cancel) with no penalty, or allow you to apply it to another booking, but I don't have a problem with them saying they won't honor the price.

As far as litigation, unless you have some kind of paper trail, it's a "he said/she said" thing.

Just my opinion.

Also, since you are relatively new on the boards. If you continue reading, most of the posts include comments that people have spoke to one agent, called back again to confirm, and received a totally different response from someone else.

Good Luck!

Unfortunately the OP didn't stick around for advice.

I would hope that RCCI would do the honorable thing and let you apply the deposit or refund it. But without a screen shot of the "deal" I would not expect them to honor that price. Now if she had captured a screen shot of that price from them, that I would think should be honored. IMHO.

We have a habit now, (after many troubles with incompetance) of letting people know who we are doing business with over the phone esspecially, in telling them for, "Our customer service and THEIR protection, they are being recorded."

We get lots of "Clicks" ...keeps em honest I suppose.

With all the people on here canceling their cruises just in the past week I can't believe RCI is still in business! ;)

But I'll be able to smoke* in peace with so few people on board!

*tobacco, that is.

I don't really smoke, btw.

I'm confused. OP is from Chicago, so USA rules apply. If not yet past final payment date, RCI will let you cancel for a full refund.

If this was booked after the final payment date, I think RCI should still give you a full refund, even though their rules say you only get a partial refund.

Or (if past final payment) -- if you charged this on a credit card, you might be able to dispute it since you were not charged the quoted price.

One can dream anyway!

Yep.:D Even though I got a nice price drop on my upcoming cruise already. It was honored by my TA without a problem, even though I´m from Europe and booked with a US TA, which seems all impossible due to some posts.:p

Don't worry...RCI will do something to ruin your cruise. They have horrible customer service and I hear the Captains walk around the ship and push people overboard who look at them funny. They're just out to steal your money. :(

I have to disagree. I booked last week For me and dh and got a quote for some friends, by the time they called me back later in the afternoon to let me know they were going, I called Royal and the price jumped 150 bucks! But he honered what the first agent told me with no Problems.

I am DIAMOND and still would not go full litigation with RCL. It is not RCL's fault that the "third" party gave you the wrong price.

As for being rude I can't belive that. I have called RCL many times, for many reasons, and have yet to have a rude person. If it possible you didn't like hearing the customer service representative telling you "no" that made you think he was being rude?
