A few questions on Island Princess

Recommended Posts

Sort of new to cruising (only taken liners in the distant past and haven't been on a sea-going cruise ship in 3 decades).

Headed from Los Angeles to Vancouver on the Island Princess on Friday (got in on the flash $199 rates yesterday for inside cabins and have gotten assigned obscured-view cabins).

Boarding at San Pedro: Says between 1p and 3p on the BP (ship sails at 4p). What is the earliest that one can board and when is crush time?

Duty-free: We live in Canada and want to get hard liquor to take with us off the ship in Vancouver. What's onboard selection and prices like? Better to buy in Los Angeles or San Francisco and carry onboard?

It appears that taking a reasonable amount of wine and water/pop on board is still o.k.?

If you board between 1-3pm, the crush should be over. Have no idea about Canadian import policies. Yes, you can carry wine for your own use onboard.

Princess does not permit you to carry hard liquor onboard. If you buy your alcohol in the U.S and cruise with it to take home, technically you will be smuggling. You may buy hard liquor onboard and they will hold it for you until the last night of your cruise.

Wine is OK to bring on.

Liquor prices onboard in the shop will be less than in stores on shore in the USA

Thanks all.

So what time do you think we can board with no status?

We were thinking of buying our liquor to take home either leaving YVR (which we know is not a bargain) or in California. I guess we'll buy it onboard since it seems the prices are good.

Remember you will either have to pack it in checked luggage or ship it, cannot be in your carryon.

Thanks all.

great deal and enjoy, have done this voyage a few times

i agree with others about boarding after 1 pm should be quieter

You can bring hard liquour on board but it may be taken by security and held until you get off. but like others said it will be cheaper to get on board, and you will still have to deal with duty free as you will go thru customs when you arrive in Vancouver and the limits will apply.

yes you can bring wine and pop onboard.

enjoy

I wouldn't be able to wait til 3 to board any ship. Back in 2005, we got to the port by 12-sih and were able to check in (and we were gold) immediately. Was in our Island Princess cabin and carry ons unpacked by 1:15.
