rkr Posted May 14, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 14, 2012 Has anyone booked a private tour in either of these locations? Looking for ideas on what to do in each port. Thanks for your help. Kathy
Rare Hlitner Posted May 15, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 15, 2012 We were recently (last week) in Ponta DelGada for our 3rd visit. On our last two visits we rented a car and explored the Western side of the island on on visit and last week we spent the day driving around the eastern side. This island is absolutely gorgeous once you get outside town and is very drivable (we have our own GPS which is helpful). We would recommend either renting a car of booking a tour that gives you a chance to enjoy the beauty of the island. It has become one of our two favorite Atlantic islands (Tenerife is the other). The city (Ponta Delgada) is also a nice place with plenty of cafes/restaurants and shops. Hank
Irishlady5 Posted May 17, 2012 #3 Share Posted May 17, 2012 Has anyone booked a private tour in either of these locations?Looking for ideas on what to do in each port. Thanks for your help. Kathy We have used (guidedgalicia@yahoo.com)Brendan Lowe in Vigo. His tour was absolutely the highlight of our cruise last year. We are cruising in Sept with friends who did not join us last year and using him again when we dock in Vigo. He will not disappoint.

We have considered doing this exploration on our own. Does your US GPS work in Europe? Which side of the road do the drive on in Spain? LondonTowner Posted June 25, 2012 #7 Share Posted June 25, 2012 In Vigo the cruise terminal is right in the town. There is a very nice shopping mall beside the terminal. A short walk will bring you into the centre of Vigo. WE had spent a whole week in Galicia two years ago, so in Vigo we did the HOHO bus which stops near to the cruise terminal. The stop is easy to find. The weather in Vigo is unpredictable, so take an umbrella and/or raincoat.
candbgirl Posted June 27, 2012 #8 Share Posted June 27, 2012 I was in Ponta Delgado last week. The island is amazingly beautiful. We used amazingtours.com. The contact is ra@amazingtours.se The owner is Ric and he is very easy to work with. Go to the website and see what is available. He has several tours you can book depending how much time you have in port. I'd book with this company again.
tartanexile81 Posted June 27, 2012 #9 Share Posted June 27, 2012 Vigo is a regular port of call for cruises from the UK. When we were going to be there last year I contacted Brendan but he was back in the UK so we booked a ship's excursion instead to an island called La Toja. We loved it and saw some beautiful scenery on the way. On a previous visit we went to Pontevedra, which was a nice city but with nothing particularly exciting to see. We have also had a day in Vigo which was OK but it's not my favourite port. There are some beautiful beaches and a nature reserve on the Cies Islands accessible by ferry from close to where the ship will dock and definitely worth a visit- weather permitting! Goes Cruising Posted June 29, 2012 #10 Share Posted June 29, 2012 We had a great time in Ponta Delgada. We arranged a tour on quads with ANC Moterent. Andre is the owner. Many of us had little to no experience riding these things, but they tested us out and took it easy until we got the hang of them. The tour never got wild & crazy. It did give us the opportunity to get into places a bus could not. We really had a great time!

Does anyone else have suggestions for a tour company in Vigo to go to Santiago de Compostela for the day?? Michael
