Conquest Review with TONS of pics!

Recommended Posts

We had a great time! Drove to New Orleans and got to port at 10:45am. Sat in traffic and finally parked at 11:20. Terminal was a zoo! Once we got in there, we were checked in by noon. We were zone 13 and on board by 12:30. It was pretty smooth sailing!

This thing never did work right, but here is our path

cruise22012068.jpg

sweet and sour shrimp

cruise22012060.jpg

beef brisket

cruise22012061.jpg

Our first towel creation and we walk in the room and my husband is like "wow, they made us a....um....towel vagina." Hahaha! We couldn't figure this one out.

cruise22012062.jpg

next day was memorial day. This was their tribute

cruise22012072.jpg

Spent the day reading on deck. Look at the guy in the background. What is he biting into??? Cracking me up!

Blowfish drink. Learned a $12.95 lesson here. Ordered one from a guy. 10 min later a guy came over with a blowfish drink on his tray. Thought he was

the one I ordered from, so I took it and handed him my sail and sign. Well the real guy I ordered from showed up a minute later and demanded I buy from him too since I ordered from him. I learned very quickly to pay attention to WHO I'm ordering from!

cruise22012074.jpg

Flat Iron steak. Ordered med-well. It was pretty crispy, but good

cruise22012086.jpg

Our waiter brought us a piece of cake for our anniversary and sang to us. We were wondering what they were going to do, because when we booked, we told them we were celebrating our 12th anniv. Funny thing is, this was served to us AFTER we already ate dessert LOL. It was really nice though.

cruise22012078.jpg

OK, so this little guy looked more like an actual animal ;)

cruise22012079.jpg

Next day was Isle of Roatan, Mahogany Bay. We were docked with the Dream. We heard that while the Dream was testing life boats, a cable snapped, a lifeboat fell, and 3 crew members were rushed away by ambulance, 2 of them severely injured- one with a broken back and one with a mangled face. Not really sure how accurate that was, but I hope they're OK....

We did the "Magical Flying Beach Chairs" at Roatan, then swam at the beach. It was super crowded, but very cool! There was a nice shopping area there, too. It was a relaxing day.

husband did a little karaoke-ing. We were less than thrilled with the activities on this cruise, to be quite honest. My husband loves to karaoke, and we love trivia, and both those things were not really front-burner activites. The karaoke guy was a total dud and they never had it out at the casino bar, like other cruises we've been on. Trivia always seemed to be at lunch time, and once we arrived late and asked the girl to repeat a few of the first questions and she told us no. It just wasn't a very relaxed, fun atmosphere. They were giving out medals instead of ship on a stick for trivia.

Belize! Let me tell you, Belize was a 25 min tender ride away. Look how far away it is from the ship!

cruise22012137.jpg

We just shopped there, no excursion. It was fun, but the water was not sparkling and beautiful like we imagined.

Cozumel was AWESOME! We've been there a few times already, so this time we signed up for a cooking class at Playa Mia. We hung out at the beach there, did some shopping, then had the cooking class. There were only 8 people in the class and we prepared everything ourselves, then sat down and ate it. It was open bar the whole time, so needless to say, we were all staggering out of there! I highly recommend this excursion!

My husband and i were the LAST TWO PEOPLE to board the ship at Cozumel. It was about 5:05 and we were supposed to be back by 4:30 with a 5pm sail time. They were blowing the horn as we were entering the pier, and when we made it to the gangplank, they met us there and asked if we were Mike and Emily. As soon as they scanned our cards, they closed the doors, shut down the computer. YIKES!

cruise22012190.jpg

Our favorite dessert! Chocolate melting cake...with 2 scoops of ice cream without even asking. Our waiter was awesome!

cruise12012046.jpg

loved the towel animal that night!

Great cruise! A few things i didn't mention....

The past cruiser party was really nice. It was 45 min long and the drinks/fancy appetizers were free-flowing. The waiters would not let your plate/glass be empty. They drew a name and that person won a free dinner for 2 at the steakhouse.

We actually stood up to a couple of chair hogs!!! On day 2, at like 9:30 in the morning, every single chair on deck had a towel or shoes, or whatever, on it. Like every singe chair! And only 25% of them actually had somebody in them. So we finally said screw it, and sat down on a couple chairs that had towels on them, in the shade. This woman turns around from the next row up and says "Those are our chairs". I said OK, can we sit here until your people get here? and she says "No, those are OUR chairs. My husband and me." So I say "You're already sitting in chairs." and she says "But when it gets too sunny, we're gonna move into those chairs in the shade" I was like, Lady, there are 3,000 some-odd people on here. You can't save 4 chairs for 2 people for godssake!" So she got all huffy and gave me the death-stare as she ripped her towels off of the shady chairs. WHATEVER!

Debarkation went pretty smoothly. We did the self-check out and took our own bags. we were at the car by 9:30am. Not bad!

All in all, it was a fantastic cruise:D

Great review, and loved the pics.

Towel vagina! Hilarious...I'm glad that there are others beside my wife and I that nickname that towel creation the same thing :-)

Kudos to you for standing up to the chair hogs! Were going july 8th on the conquest and we can't wait. I've already forwarned my wife..I won't tolerate the chair hogs.

Loved the review! We are going in November AFTER the 2.0 refurb. One question weighing heavily on my mind--WHY WERE YOU LATE GETTING BACK TO THE SHIP??!!! You almost got left over being 5 minutes late (or technically 35 minutes). You could have been put on You Tube as pier runners (oh wait, maybe you ARE on You Tube). Just kidding but please explain.

Great review and pics! We loved the Conquest, all four times, and miss her here in Texas. Magic? Blah. Ecstasy? Blah. The Conquest is where it's at!

Really liked the pictures from the Playa Mia cooking class. Chef Luis lead the class the two times I have been and we cooked the grouper in a banana leaf.

Do you happen to remember the names of the crew who did the trivia contests?

I enjoyed your review, and loved the photos. We'll be on the Conquest in January and I'm already counting down the days. :)

But, me too, wondering WHY you were so late and the ship almost left you! We always like to be back onboard the ship at least 1-2 hours BEFORE we're supposed to. I can't imagine being that late! :(

I love this picture.

Just for information purposes...if you want to sit in the shade and don't need to be around the pool, try the Promenade Deck. Our ship had a couple stacks of loungers there. Good for you standing your ground.

Thanks everyone! I guess I should explain myself LOL Our carnival-booked excursion dropped us near the pier at 4:30, but there was shopping there and my husband saw a giant, obnoxious "Predator" sculpture and he's a total movie buff and wanted it. (it will be banned to the basement with the rest of his tacky stuff :p) So anyway, the haggling, paying, wrapping it up process took a while, so I told him I was going to keep looking around the area. Of course 5 min later we had completely lost each other. By the time we found each other it was 5pm and we still had to run down that huge pier! We spoke to a carnival employee later that evening and he said that they usually will search your state room for passports and leave the passports at the dock so you can at least fly home, so that process would have bought us some time.....I think!!!

David, I don't remember the name of the girl who did the general trivia/movie quote trivia, but my husband will probably remember because he was NOT happy with her  and I do have to agree she was kind of bitchy. She was from toronto. I do remember a guy named Dallas did our 80s song title trivia and he was cool. Our cruise director was named Craig. Can't remember last name. He was british.

That's cool you did the cooking class too! We did grouper, but it was in a sauce with chopped veggies and rice. No banana leaf.

I would be scared crapless if I was left in a port! I wouldn't have the slightest clue what to do. We always get on the boat a couple hours before it leaves.

Oh, trust me, we will NEVER cut it that close again!!! The adrenaline rush of being late was kind of exciting and we had a lot of nervous laughs about it that night, but we will never be that careless again! Everybody was on their balconies watching us come down the pier. It was kind of embarrassing
