Fascination Review 5/13/05

Recommended Posts

My husband and I just returned from Fascination 3-day Bahamas cruise. We are both in our early 30's. We found this ship to be a little run down, dark lighting and there was some sort of dry smoke filled air. And WORST of all BED BUGS!

EMBARKMENT:We rented a car after arriving from FLL airport. We found it much easier this way since we had alot of time before we could of checked in. Checking in was a little longer than I expected. There were different lines and station for each process. We did not get our room assignment till we arrive, I was hoping for a upgrade but that did not happen. The process took about an hour.

Room:Decent size, best of all the two bed together was king size compared to the queen size from other cruises. The wood closet were a little chipped. TV remote need new batteries. The first nite, I found it to be a little cold so we asked for more bed covers (they were very thin, and no temperature control in room). When we received they were smelly (smokey smelling) but since i was cold I had to use them anyway. Since I had them on top of my other bed linen I didnt experience anything. The next day, my husband gave me one of the blankets because I fell asleep, when i woke up I found 5 bites on my leg. So we never touched them again. We received towel animal everynite, a very nice touch.

FOOD:We never ate dinner in the main dining hall. Found the sushi to be HORRIBLE. and they would give you 4 pieces, not self serve. I thought the rice was too sour. And the selection was very limited. Pizza, Deli, Hot Dog, Hamburger were all very good. Buffet dining had a very limited choice. Room service was ok. But wish they had soup on the menu. Didnt like the lemon/apple/orange juice. Thought it had a weird taste to them. So we brought the soda card.

BAHAMAS:Thought 1 full day was not enough. We didnt get a chance to shop at the straw market or the shops. They close too early at around 6-6:30pm. Recommend eat at POOP DECK restaurant and Junkaroo. We were too tired to even go to Senor Frog.

DAY AT SEA:We had alot of fun because we actually won in the casino. There were alot of ppl on the deck tanning.

The crowd on the ship was a much younger crowd. Def more noise in hallways. More drinking everywhere. But didnt find any problems.

But in the end all I can say is for the price of what we paid, we weren't expecting a whole lot and we didnt get a whole lot, but the bed bugs sure surprised me.

Okay, I am nervous now. We are going over the Holiday weekend. Overall, sound ikky. What do you do about the bedbugs? Did you get bit, did they spray for them ( can they be taken care of with spray?)

Bed bugs were definitely NOT a problem for me back in November... And the ship, while not the newest, was not in bad shape. It's a shame you had such a negative experience.... but for those sailing on Fascination in the future, don't worry. :)

We booked an ocean view guarantee. We were on the Riveria Deck. Not a bad location. Close location for getting on and off the ship during Port Days.

I know I cant ask for alot for a ship thats about 10 years old.

I prob won't have gotten the bed bugs if I didnt ask for the extra bed linens. Even with the best hotels they have flaws too.

Hey it was just my run of bad luck, dont base my trip on your future trip. Of course, if on your trip you are going to grade each item/location/experience then its not a vacation!!

MOOFUS: What kind of room did you book?

Hey it doesnt matter what you booked, I think! We had an oceanview, and we kept the shades closed most of the time. There are activities on board that will keep you busy. As long as you have a bed to sleep on its good enough. it only a 3 day cruise. by the time you get settle in, its time to go home. :)

just relax and have fun. the cruise is better than no cruise!
