Live from the Fabulous Millennium - Ensenada to Honolulu - Oct 22nd with Pics

Pre-Cruise

Having thoroughly enjoyed our previous cruises with Celebrity on the Millennium, and after much research we decided to book the first positioning leg of her 2012 / 2013 Asian season, the Ensenada to Hawaii 11 day cruise. We would have loved to B2B to Australia (home), alas still working for a living and with DS in school makes this option a non player.

Booked via a TA and took advantage of the “Wave Promotion” selecting a 2B stateroom, ensured our Passports covered the trip duration plus an additional 6 months, then the fun part - airline & hotel bookings.

Fortunate enough to use United Airline points for the trip from Indy to San Diego, Hilton points for the overnight in San Diego and 3 additional nights in Honolulu and what we thought was the piece de resistance, American Airlines First Class (lay flat beds) using points for our flight home. OK so now the news of the bankruptcy, restructuring, faulty seats - oh my - well a delay in Honolulu we can handle!!!

Post final payment, AQ cabins went on special and we snapped one up, wanting to sample Blu and the other benefits this cabin class provides. We selected deck nine, not to sure about the new cabins on deck 11 with the limited shade, we both need to be cautious of the sun and the damage it brings.

Our Roll Call page on Cruise Critic has been very active, a bunch have signed up for the Connections Party and I have found this forum extremely useful in planning for tours etc. Many on the page have travelled this route and have provided detailed information and suggestions. The most asked question has been the transfer arrangements from San Diego to Ensenada. I have to admit up front that Celebrity has missed the boat on this detail. As you can imagine most folks are very concerned venturing into Mexico and answers that were given by the Celebrity CSR’s have been inconsistent and not encouraging to those folks that are a little concerned. In a nutshell, we check in at the Pier in San Diego then are bused to Ensenada, previous passengers have stated a calm trip of 2.5 hours, others a night mare - driver lost in Tijuana arrived at the port of Ensenada - total travel time 6 plus hours.

I must say I am now fairly comfortable with the arrangements and will solider on with the rest as we start our epic journey, might have to take some adult beverages for the bus trip.

We head to the Indy airport bright and early in the morning, packing complete (lots of Hawaiian shirts) and looking forward to our flights and midday arrival in San Diego.

I will be updating daily with pictures dependent on the satellite capabilities and look forward to bringing you all the happenings aboard for our 5 sea day transit to the Hawaiian Islands followed by stops in Hilo, Kailua, Lahaina and of course departing the Millie in Honolulu.

Day 1 Depart Ensenada

Day 1- 6 Sea Days - Ah BLISS

Day 7 Hilo (Hawaii) - Sail by Kelauea Volcano on departure

Day 8 Kailua (Hawaii)

Day 9 - 10 Lahaina (Maui)

Day 11 Honolulu (Oahu)

Day 12 Honolulu (Oahu) - Depart

Packing our bags this morning and a family member really wants to come with us "I will only eat Salmon and Tuna and I promise I won't be a bad cat, pls, pls, can I come!":D

Hoping you will join us daily on our passage to the wonderful Hawaiian Islands aboard the magnificent Celebrity Millennium and vicariously enjoy our adventure.

Hi Tony!

The expression on that cats face is priceless: "I am NOT moving one single inch out from this suitcase". What is it with cats and empty suitcases anyway? :D

Lucky you getting to go back on Celebrity Millennium. I know this will be a superb thread. I have a few cruises coming up but no LIVE threads from me, that last one about wore me out! ;)

Have a great cruise and try to enjoy yourselves!

What a great surprise, how are you? I still see you trip blog bouncing around, amazing some 11 months old!!

We are excited to view the Millie post refurb and will take a bunch of pics for you.

Just landed in Denver, an absolute gorgous morning not a cloud in the sky mountains in view with first snows. Anything you want to know just ask.

Doing well enough. A few weeks after I returned from my vacation last year I was involved in a very bad car wreck that put me out of sorts for almost seven months.

Since then I've been able to book a few unscheduled cruises and will also be enjoying some extended vacation next week and in December. Yes, it is rather amazing that my old blog is still around from my little B2B. Somebody should really put that thing out of it's misery! ;)

I am very jealous that you are going to Hawaii and on a really wonderful ship. That combination is definitely priceless. If they still have almond croissants have one (or twelve) for me.

Looking forward to your amazing pictures! Aloha!!!

P.S. Did you pack any Hawaii shirts?
