Krazy Kruizers

Zuiderdam - Pinnacle Grill

Recommended Posts

We ate there several times - never on the first - too crowded - and sometimes they have the tendency to rush you on the first night - each ship varies.

We always enjoy eating at the Pinnacle. Their filets and chocolate volcano cakes are always great & it was not an exception on this ship. Enjoyed the scalloped potatoes for a change - I usually have the baked potatoes. The Dungeness Crab Cakes were bigger and tastier than on some of the other ships. DH loves creme brulee' and he said the trio of them on this ship were best that he has had on our recent cruises - they were more firm.

HOWEVER - there was no Northwest Clam Chowder the first week. They didn't have one of the ingredients to make the chowder. It was back on the menu the second week.

Every other day a different amuse' is alternated. One day it is salmon tartare and the next day it is a shrimp on top of a spicey concoction of onion, tomato, corn and salsa on top of a small piece of bruchetta.

The Pinnacle is well staffed: 1 Hungarian woman, 1 Romanian woman, 2 Romanian men, 1 Dutch man, 1 Pakistan man, 4 Indonesian men, and 2 Filipino wine stewards. Near the end of the second week a third wine steward was called in to get practice since Walter was going home at the end of the week.

One day each week there was a special wine tasting lunch for $48 per person - you had to sign up for it.

You still can have the special wine tasting dinner for $49 per person any evening as long as you give them 24 hour notice.

We enjoyed the food at the Pinnacle, but we were seated at a table overlooking the Atrium and the noise from the stairs definitely impacted the fine dining experience.

We have always asked for a table by the windows or as close as possible to them on the Oosterdam, Westerdam, and Zuiderdam. And our wishes have always been granted.

We have often wondered how noisy it is at the tables overlooking the Atrium considering there aren't any glass partitions to block out the noise from the Atrium as well as the music from the Ocean Bar at times.

The noise was not a problem for us when we ate at the Pinnacle. We ate there on our first night about 7:30 p.m. (5/14/05) and sat near the atrium and it wasn't noisy at all. We had the best food there and the atmosphere was great. In fact, it spoiled us for the rest of our dining experineces. I would have loved to eaten there every evening.
