I saw two people in orange shirts on deck 9 as Navigator sailed away. However, not surprisingly, my phone camera did a very poor job of picking up the color. Here is a Picture that I cropped to zoom in:

I circled the figures I assume are internetwhiz and whoever she was with (Karen and Bill?).

Didn't know where to look for Mary and Lee.

On a side note, my dad and I went to Bolivar peninsula and back the next day hoping for a cleaner beach (unlike Sunday when we gave up, the line for the ferry was not crazy long on Monday). Unfortunately, the disgusting seaweed infestation was even worse there, so we waited in line for over an hour to return. I did take some pictures, though:

My dad and I have dealt with nasty seaweed before, but never on such a massive scale. On Crystal Beach, the seaweed covered the surface of the water, and there was a FOX affiliate from Beaumont there reporting on it! Fortunately, seaweed didn't cover the surface of the water in Galveston's western beaches, but we still had to walk over it.

A long time RCI employee told us last week that altho' Navigator is slated for San Juan in November next year, rumors are now swirling that it will be Ft Lauderdale instead so who knows:)

If you go online the November 2015 cruises are from ft lauderdale

We are booked on the Navigator for June 2015, a Galveston departure. Would they just "sub" another ship? After all my research on Navigator cabins?!?!

Navigator is in galveston until November 2015 when it is being replaced with liberty.

We will be in Galveston to take the kids to the beach and will be staying in Kemah after. Any recommendations for the best beach for kids?

Kemah not known for any beaches. And Galveston/Bolivar overrun this year with seaweed. Even diehard beachcombers finding it a turn off.

I wish!

If there wasn't seaweed what beach in Galveston would you go to. My wife is determined to go to a beach tomorrow so we'll try it out and see what happens.

Our plan is we are going to drive to Galveston and leave Austin tomorrow morning. Spend a few hours at the beach in Galveston (we have 3 young kids so we don't last that long). Then we are going to drive to our hotel in Kemah and check in. Then go to dinner probably at Bubba's and then spend the evening at the Boardwalk and ride a couple rides.

The next day we are going to visit NASA and then coming home on Saturday.

I think I read the west end had the least seaweed.

Thanks! I don't know the island that well. We stayed there one night in Dec at the courtyard before our last Disney cruise and got there around five, ate at the pizza/Italian place across from Specs and then went for supplies. Then slept. So I don't know really where anything is at.

The entire Texas coast has been covered with a larger than normal amount of sargassum this year. However we saw it just as bad 15 years ago south of here on Mustang and Padre islands.

The beaches at East End are kept clean by the parks board, West end does not have the infrastructure or money to clean the beaches.

Unfortunately, visitors want the seaweed gone. If we could leave it, we would have incredible san dunes which could build up over time, protecting the island.

The sargassum comes from the Sea of Sargasso on the east coast of Africa and is an ecological feeding system for sea life. The currents in the Atlantic bring it into the Gulf of Mexico.

We have sailed through miles of it in the Atlantic, seen it on South Beach in Miami and much of the Caribbean Sea.

Go to East Beach or Stewart Beach, enjoy and remember the sargassum is part of nature.

I bow to her wisdom, she is on the Island and knows much more than I do about it (lol).

We are at Stewart beach right now and having a great time. The kids are having fun even with the large amount of sargassum (sp?). The weather is perfect and we are lounging under our rented umbrella.
