Carnival Triumph...quick review

Recommended Posts

Cruised on the Triumph 11/10/12...5 nights to Progresso and Cozumel from Galveston. Gotta say it was one of my all time favorite cruises. Perhaps it was the company (in my room my 12 and 14 year old nephews...in my brothers room, his wife and my 7 year old nephew and 5 year old niece).

It was an absolute blast. My brother and family are very outgoing...he was one of the mixology contestants...tried to get on the newlywed/not so newlywed game...the kids all LOVED the camp Carnival and the older kids club...in fact the older two would be in the club til it closed at 3AM most nights. The younger two participated in the different classes and all had the time of their lives on their first cruise. Uncle Rick did get jarred awake when the boys came home late, but that's OK.

Jen, the cruise director, is one of the most fabulous ever. Had the chance to speak with her one on one and she is a hoot. Saw her walking the ship several times and she was very receptive to stopping to talk with guests. I usually don't even know who the cruise director is, but she was definately a stand out. Loved her.

Julie, the shopping host, was also very, very nice. She commented on a couple pieces of jewelry I was wearing (I have LOTS of jewelry and usually it is one of a kind or rare)...she knows her stuff.

Our waiter, Aleksandr in the London dining room...THE BEST I've ever had. I've had remarkable service on cruises in the past...on Celebrity from the social hostess...Simone the concierge on NCL...our butler, John, on NCL...our butler, Efrin, on Celebrity...and Aleksandr (from Belaruse) was right up there with them. He is far more talented with service and should not be a waiter...he truly is butler status (regarding service...that's a huge compliment).

The ship itself was nice...but the vibe was great...hope not to offend, but with all the California cruises I've done lately, the Texas crowd wins hands down. Much more polite and respectful in my opinion.

In Cozumel, rented a jeep and ended up at Carlos and Charlies...my nephew parasailed and then we took a glass bottom boat out with just my family aboard to go snorkeling...I'm terribly afraid of the water (sharks) but had the most amazing experience...one of the top ten of my life swimming in the 40 foot crystal clear water amongst thousands of fish...I was completely relaxed. Angel was our snorkel guide and he was tipped heavily. AWESOME.

The dancers/singers on this ship are fantastic! I lived in Las Vegas for a few years...saw all the shows...the New Orleans show near the end was phenomenal!

Out of my numerous cruises, few scored a 10...the two with my beloved late Mom of course were perfect 10's...the Owners Suites (we had two on the ship) in Europe was a 10...and of course the 6,000 square foot Garden Villa the highest score (but at $15,000+/week it had better, right?). Triumph also gets a 10 for being one of the most fun cruises I have been on in a long time.

Now...about that casino :(...

Loved it! Thanks Carnival for a magical family cruise...glad we didn't take Disney after all.

Glad you had a great time and thanks for the positive words about people cruising out of Galveston (Texans in particular). I often read these "horror" stories about behavior on cruises and can't relate because we usually have a wonderful time. Then I realize that many of these complaints are from cruises originating from the east coast.

I not trying to flame anyone else but I do totally agree with you that people who sail out of Galveston (mostly from Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma) are very courteous and friendly as a rule.

I am so happy to see such a great review! We were on this cruise last month and the service was the worse we have ever had. Most of the crew were really unfriendly too. I will be on the 1/14/13 sailing and was sure hoping to see some positive reviews!

I sail now in 5 days - I live in Houston, and am so glad we have the Port of Galveston to cruise from. You are indeed correct, Texas, LA, Arkansas & OK people are the NICEST. Come cruise with us again. I am looking so forward to this cruise, will be my 6th on Carnival.!!!

We were also on this cruise, and like you had a very good time! We've cruised out of Galveston 6 times, and always feel like its a very good, friendly crowd of Texans onboard....it seems that EVERYONE is from Texas!! We did meet another couple from Missouri...and a few from Oklahoma...but its for sure Texas rules. I love wearing my Steelers shirt and listening to the Cowboys fans giving me guff!!! Its always a good cruise out of Galveston!!:)

A friend and I did this cruise as well. We commented, to each other, that the crew seemed incredibly happy. Our wait staff was great (had to move tables after the first night) our room steward kept the room clean...thanks

In progresson we did the Salsa and Salsa, plus City tour. The Salsa and Salsa part was great...made two types of salsa and quacamole. Three free drinks as well - great Margaritas. If you wanted more they were two dollars a piece.

In Cozumel we did the cooking class w/Oscar at Playa Maya. Again, a great time and the drinks were flowing...right to the end.

Im so glad the Texans made you feel welcome. I love cruising out of Galveston. I have cruised out of Galveston, New Orleans, and Miami. Galveston is my favorit. I have been on Triumph twice, and I like that ship.

The New Orleans show is called the Big Easy, I have been on 6 cruises so far and that is my favorite show ever!

For the person asking questions on Progresso. The beach is not the prettiest. Not a good snorkling spot, the water is cloudy. But you can get some cold beer, kids can play, and you can get a $20/1hour message on the beach (best ever!). Just take a lot of $1s. They never have change even when you give them $5 for a $2 drink. A lot of people come up to sale you things and sing to you for tips.

Thank you for the great review. My DS11 and I will be on the 12/22 Christmas cruise. I'm curious what you and your family did in Progresso? I am looking for beach time and relaxation :)

I actually stayed on the ship in Progresso...the rest of the family went ashore. I like the peace and quiet when all the guests disembark and I find a quiet place to read a book. Sorry couldn't be more helpful...but if your cruise is like my experience, it will definately make for some great memories.

I just realized that this is the only non-balcony/suite cruise that I gave a '10' score...it was really that good in my opinion. Fun, fun ship and great, polite, friendly, respectful Texas crowd. My brother lives in Dallas and is a VERY proud Texan...I get it. I live in one of the most beautiful places in the US...but the folks here can be challenging at best as it seems to be an all about me attitude...and, yes, I might be one of them sometimes! ;)

Happy Cruising!

I agree with you about the Triumph being one of the most fun ships! Out of my 10 cruises, it ranks right at the top. In fact, my expectations were exceeded greatly. The ship is in great condition and the staff was excellent. I actually have the Triumph booked for the same week next year..but this one is a girl's cruise:p.

There are several parking options within walking distance to the terminal. Just google gaveston cruise parking.

We were on Triumph Oct 22, and we thought it to be one of our best. We are in the same cabin next Oct...We thought food and service were excellent.. I know there are a lot of good comments about the Magic, but we were on it's first cruise from galveston, and thought the Triumph to be better...Of course we are not exactly youngsters, and I think the Magic is better for kids.

We were on Triumph earlier this month and loved it! I only wish now that I had booked a five day cruise instead of the four day so we could have had more time. I'd sail Triumph again in a heartbeat :)

I'm cruising on the Triumph out of Galveston over spring break. Where can we park our car?

We used Galveston Park & Cruise which is right across the street from the terminal. parked at 11:35 and were eating lunch on Triumph before noon :)
