A MTD question.... (sorry)

Let'sGo!

Recommended Posts

When we eat in the MDR, we always ask for a large table with traditional dining times because we enjoy meeting new table mates. We have made some great friends over the years.

However, I'm wondering if it's going to be different on Oasis. There are so many dining options, I'm thinking you may not spend as much time with your table mates. Would we be better off going with MTD? Can you still request to sit at a big table?

I figure hubby and I have "tables for 2" all the time -- we enjoy socializing!

Thanks,

Ann

The three of us on the Oasis had early seating, were joined by a Pittsburgh couple and their two teenage daughters. Ate with them every night, had a good time.

We did not request anything except early seating, worked out fine.

From experience, MTD is designed for both options: you can dine alone, or with others. They will ask you what you prefer and it's up to you. We have taken a table for two in MTD, and we have also asked to join others, and were seated at a table for 6 where they had just received their menus and their breads. It was wonderful!

Your choice, each evening. :)

So if we want a table for two it might be better for us to pick my time dinning?

Yes, but just know that the tables are VERY CLOSE together and in my opinion, it's like dining with others at the same table, anyway. After two nights of asking for a table for two, getting it, but feeling a little awkward because we were so close to other diners, we decided to actually sit at a bigger table with others. :p

I get some anxiety when I feel like I HAVE to talk to strangers so no matter how close the tables are I think I will feel a lot calmer at a table of two.

It's weird I spend all day talking to strangers at work but when I am on my own time it is really hard for me to do it :S

Ditto the above post, we have asked for it both ways on the same cruise and met really nice people. Some nights we decided to dine as a family and enjoyed that also.

Most people who do MTD only want to eat with their own party. I would go with assigned dining. I think you would have better chance of being put at a larger table.

Beware of such generalizations. There are tables of all sizes in the My Time Dining section of the dining rooms and if you wish to dine with others you can simply request that you be seated with others and the staff will do their best to accommodate you. As others have mentioned, the tables for two and four are usually placed close enough together that it is possible, if you so wish, to converse easily with others seated nearby.

We had a table for 8 and there were only about 2-3 couples that arrived different nights. I guess they went to alternate dining and so we were the only constant it seems each night.

Now we ask for a table for 2. There are just too many options I guess on Oasis or Allure. So, you sit and wait to see if anyone else is coming to the table. We had friends on Allure with us and had a table for 4 and it was great.
