Okay, How We Gonna Work This??

Recommended Posts

Hmm, I kind of like the title of our new CC section, although I probably would've gone with 6/3/2010 Enchantment cruise/Friends of the Superb, All-Knowing, Omnipotent and Devilishly Handsome Kicker, but I guess we can settle for the abbreviated form, since we all know the rest is true anyways....

CG's are still cruising, most Enchantmenters prob don't know we're here, but I have some ideas:

1). thread for completed cruises (to tell each other how much fun we had and make each other jealous)

2). Thread for upcoming cruises

3). General garbage that we (myself being the prime offender) throw on CC

4). RIP section (personally this cruise for me is now (among other things) remembered for Barefoot 10 and all Sunshine and her family endured.

Any other idea, toss em out.

I can tell you how the thread started as when they closed our old thread I asked for one on the friends thread as they suggested......being as you were the one that started the enchantment thread I suggested that they name the thread friends of kicker.......didn't think of the all powerful, impotent (that is what you suggested wasn't it :)) all knowing but if you like I can ask the admins if they can add that...

I think I missed a few letters in the omnipotent or maybe just rearranged them.......must have been the tears in my eyes. As for the thread being closed my only issue was they could have at least given us some notice as opposed to just going in and shutting it down and secondly it is still taking up just as much space on their server because they didn't take down the thread only closed it for commenting.

IF that is the case isn't it just pretty much kay and john starting new threads every other week???

We are back! I was quarantined to the stateroom for a day from a stomach virus on the three night cruise. Things improved for the eight night cruise as we were upgraded to a wonderful aft balcony cabin on deck 10 from an oceanview on deck 2. We had the aft balcony on deck 9 for the three night cruise.

I came home with a cough, then runny nose, high fever, and general achy all over. I took Avery her birthday lunch to school yesterday and then came home and went to bed. Chicken noodle soup and gatorade are my best friends now! We still have to go buy a tree, decorate, wrap gifts, and grocery shop for Christmas Eve dinner here.......along with the two big suitcases and two carryons full of dirty laundry to do........luckily, we don't have a need for the shorts, swimwear and formal wear for awhile, so the laundry is at the bottom of my list!

We saw many cruise friends and met many new friends, including the one and only SUPER MARIO! He is the top cruiser with RCI and is as down to earth as we are!! Super nice guy!! A few of the pinnacle members think they are so important and don't think they should even associate with us lowly diamond + or diamond people!(Some of the diamond + don't associate with diamonds either...... We enjoyed nights with Helen, another pinnacle member we had met on Freedom several years ago, and her daughter, Sue and Laura and Jason who we met on Allure( she and I did Jewel last month). There were at least 18 pinnacle club members onboard, I think 500 diamond +, and 1000 diamond members, so they closed the concierge lounge at night on the 8 nt cruise and moved the diamond +, pinnacle and suite guests upstairs to Olive or Twist lounge for nightly concierge and the Pyramid lounge for Diamond members. We spent time in both places, since we had some friends who frequented the O or T and others in the Pyramid. I think since the Indy has been in Europe so long and the fact that there was a noro outbreak on the transatlantic, it will take a little time to get the crew back in the mode of USA guests out of Florida.

We also enjoyed seeing Grete(captain's sister in law) and Gerald again on the three night cruise and chatting with Captain Remo's wife, Tove. We had dined with Captain Remo and Tove on the Adventure of the Seas 5-6 years ago. She was eagerly waiting for her grandson to come on the cruise Sunday for Christmas. She is the author of If I Were Not Upon The Seas (I think is the correct book title).

Since John only has three vacation days left until May 31, we won't be doing much more cruising until June. We may book a short one, though. John is seriously considering the buyout, so we'll wait and see what the actual terms will be.

John, Laura and I were lounging and drinking wine out on our balcony one day, when we heard men yelling.....not knowing what it was, John looked down just below the ship and saw three men, two standing and one sitting, on the bottom of their overturned fishing boat. They were yelling for help and waving their arms around! I ran in and called for help. The ship had already know about them and was slowing down, then turned around and sent out a rescue team for them. We went to our friend's balcony cabin and watched the rescue. They were taken to the medical facility and then picked up by coast guard. Someone said they were so overjoyed that they were rescued that they were crying. If the ship had not seen them and gone back for them, they might not have made it. The fishing boat had engine problems, then when they were trying to fix it, it capsized. They had been on the bottom of the boat for six hours. They were from San Juan.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Kicker - That sounds great for a general structure. Don't forget to 'Subscribe' to the various threads you are interested in.

Cheap - Agree with your termination notice comments. They could have given a 2 weeks notice or something to aid in planning and notifying the people monitoring the thread, Fortunately, Steve had the email addy's and could contact people. Our >5000 post thread still exists on their server. Hmmmm Maybe they don't appreciate over-achievers. ;)

Kicker said in his email,

"Personally, we have no future cruises planned at the moment, but I can't seem to stay away from CC!"
Maggie and I have no definite plans yet either, but we do have plans. She had a double mastectomy 9/11/2012. She is in the middle of chemo now. When that (and some reconstruction) is done, we are heading out. Looking at a trans-Atlantic from Northern Europe or another New England-Quebec (B2B with return) Canadian cruise. Any input would be appreciated. :)

One other thing - Will we have 'prizes' for milestones - 100,500,1000, 5000? LOL Will they terminate the thread again? We can only wait and see.

Glad you & Vicki found this site - I wonder how many of our other Enchantment crew will find it? I have some e-mail addresses, but 4 of them bounced back to me when I sent that notice.

That's quite a story about the fishermen. About the most dramatic thing that happened on our cruise was a kid peeing in the kiddie pool so they had to close it. Guess your story wins.

Sorry to hear about Maggie's medical problems. You probably remember I had a bilateral mastectomy three years ago. I didn't have to have chemo or radiation but am taking medication for five years. I had reconstruction, too. I feel fine and hope Maggie will soon be over her treatments and back to cruising.

We've shared a lot with this group since our cruise, and we'll certainly add Maggie to our prayers. Yesterday I visited a 40 yr old parishioner who just had surgery for a Thyroid tumor - her sister had Thyroid cancer 8 yrs ago and is doing fine.

Barb's Mom (Pauline) is in what they call "Comfort Care". She's reached a point where she's not eating (been on a pureed diet since surgery), and unless something changes she won't last much longer. Its hard because we live 3 hrs away, and Barb's been doing every weekend up there. That's a big reason for no cruise plans.

I think I mentioned my SIL - Nov 30 her husband woke up and she wasn't breathing, called Paramedics, they put her in an induced coma, didn't know if she was brain dead or what. She's basically fine, had a Defilbrilator put in and came home today. She can't remember the 2 days before it happened, and they have no idea what happened to her, but she seems okay.

We need to add some of the friends from the old thread as friends so the next time they log in to cc they are reminded of us and will look for us. Ted brings up a great question though....who is in charge of the milestone prizes???

Glad to see you found us Tim, ted et al. If we hit 5000 posts on this one I wonder what happens then..

Since nobody has mentioned it I would like to take the opportunity to express my condolences to the families of the victims of the new town shooting. Makes you want to hug your kids and grandkids just a little tighter. Such senseless violence.

Kay, we have seen terms of the buyout on the website up here. Not sure what I would do if I were faced with that decision but I tend to think that in my situation it wouldn't be that good of a deal. Would certainly give you more time to hit pinnacle membership....hey everyone has to have a goal right??

Ted sorry to hear about Maggie and hope that her chemo is progressing well. A transatlantic cruise sounds like just the remedy for all that she has gone through and usually you can get them at a fairly reasonable price especially if you get a repositioning one.

I know it is a week away but in case I forget or people don't visit the site before the big event......(it isn't what you are thinking I promise)

.......

.......

.......

.......

Happy end of the world day to everyone....oh and have a merry christmas and a happy new year.

I don't know why but a cruise to canada doesn't appeal to me for some reason. I know the east coast is quite lovely and depending on the time of year you can see whales cavorting in the st lawrence river and around the gaspe but that and alaska just don't appeal to me as cruise destinations. For some reason I associate cruises with nice warm weather.

i am sure that if I happened to go on one of them I would change my mind. There are so many places left that I want to visit that I think I really need a lottery win to make that happen...either that or sign on to work on one of the cruise ships.

I will fedex a typically canadian item to the poster who makes the 100th post (provided that the 10 or so posts before that aren't just an opportunity to make sure that you are the 100th) BUT if I am the owner of the 100th post you all have to send me something typical from your area keeping in mind the restrictions on shipping stuff cross border.

For example I might think of shipping some squeaky cheese, maple syrup, toronto maple leafs toque (although god only knows why I would want to subject any of you to THAT embarrassment), or even some plastic money.

Kicker I think that the barefoot thread is a wonderful idea..... I wish that I had taken the time to get to know her on the cruise so that I could add something to the mix.

Yes, knock on wood, we are all as healthy as can reasonably be expected.

So I missed all the drama with closing of the old thread. How did CC handle that? Did an admin post in the thread and warn you in advance or did it just go away one day?

Both kids are doing great, btw. Lindsay graduates with her BS in communications disorders this spring. She will then go on to speech therapy school. Maybe she can coach dad out of his hybrid Oklahoma/Texas/Western Kentucky drawl!

Eric is a high school senior and is still undecided on what he wants to study. He is leaning toward a pre-physicians assistant major and the PA grad school. But that is this week, we will see about next.

Rachel quit doing the buzzing tupperware parties a while back. The downturn in the economy really sorta tanked that business, I think. She is back doing the retail gig as a department manager for Elder Beerman stores.

My yoga business has grown like crazy. I have six teachers now and 20+ classes a week, most of which are running nearly full. Between managing that and my day job I barely have time to do anything else!

It does feel like home in here though. :)

Good to hear from you again and glad that all the family is doing well.

First off CC just appeared one day and said thread is closed because it was too large (or something to that effect) and they were streamlining their servers.....would make more sense to me if they had actually deleted the thread too but it still (as of now anyway) resides on their server. Anyway they were kind enough to offer us space if we requested it so here we are.

Glad to hear that your business is doing well but it really shouldn't come as a surprise as you are pretty much the poster boy for the health benefits of doing yoga..wish I had your ambition.

Tough for most teenage boys to figure out what it is they want to do with their lives. I guess the difference in hormones. Girls seem to have their lives all mapped out (or mine do anyway and it sounds like Lindsay does as well) whereas boys kind of go with the flow. I STILL haven't figured out what I want to be when I grow up.

Sounds like you and the family need a cruise badly for some r and r.

Kicker: Great job on the new setup!!

Cheap: Thanks for keeping us informed of the new site.

Ted and Maggie: I hope everything turns out OK. Kay & I know somewhat of what you are going through.

Tim: Great to hear from you again! On our last cruise at Quest there were some doing the "splits". No body can do the "splits" like you and Lindsay!!;)

Merry Christmas to all and Happy New Year.:D:D:p

I think Cheap is the one who got this started on here, so he deserves the credit. It was tough timing with you guys being on a cruise, us leaving for a cruise, and especially with no notice they were shutting the thread down.

In CC's defense, they mentioned months ago that they were trying to eliminate some items, although, as Cheap said, what space are they saving if the original thread is still there?

Sorry Kicker but not cheap's work....I only requested the site. YOu my friend are our spiritual leader (in more ways than one). Should it now be our objective to see if cc shuts down this site because of the sheer enormity of it???

My offer still stands....for the 100th poster something typically Canadian (sorry ladies I can't fedex you ryan gosling, william shatner or one of illustrious royal canadian mounted police).

John if you end up dropping in are you going to be eligible for the voluntary buyout??? Doesn't really seem like that bad of a deal if you are nearing retirement anyway and have all of your retirement ducks in a row but for a "young" fellow like you or I not sure I would take advantage of it even if it were offered to us Canadian folks. I know I could get another job elsewhere as they are in desperate need of truck drivers continent wide but not sure that I want to see the world through the windshield.

One more day until the end of the world according to the mayans....after THIS end of the world passes (we have survived y2k, the rapture last may, the second rapture in october) I wonder when the next one will be....I think I will have to tune in to coast to coast to find out.

Just as a side note.....carnival 7 day cruise leaving jan 6 for the ridiculous price of 269....how in the name of god do they make any money at that price???

I found it! I found it! LOL So glad to see that everyone seems to have had a decent holiday. Who had the mastectomy? So sorry to hear that but hope that treatment goes well.

Our Christmas went as well as could be expected. My parents came here. It was too traumatic for them to stay home. DH met his biological mother for the first time in November so meeting her family and spending time with them took our minds off of our situation for a while, except for his biological father and stepmother coming unglued about it. There are pros and cons to everything, right?! LOL

I'm hoping the new year will be better than last year! :o

Glad you found us over here.

Maggie had a double mastectomy on 9/11 and is going through the chemo regimen now. That is due to end the last week of January.

Have a Happy New Year. As you and Paul said, hope it is better than last year. :)

Haven't been on here for one main reason: Barb's Mom, Pauline, passed away on Friday (Dec 28). I think I mentioned on here that she'd been failing since having an opeartion mid-November - she came through the op fine, but something happened with her swallowing muscles and she eventually stopped eating. We were at her side for 3 days as we knew she was going.

So, not the best year for this group: Barefoot 10, CG's Mom, Barb's Mom, Maggie...

2013 HAS to be better! Right??:o

PS: I'll put a New Year's post on the Happy Holidays thread on here.

Soooo, good riddance to 2012. hopefully 2013 will be a banner year for all concerned and friends and family will enjoy good health and fellowship.

Ted and Maggie, I sincerely hope that maggie's treatments will be wildly successful. You will be in my prayers.

Kicker, so sorry to hear about Barb's mother, but like Paul said, that's what I expected was the reason for your cc absence. Sincere condolences to your entire family.

I did receive a bit of good news this morning. I had an abnormal pap smear in May, and my doctor told me to come back the end of November for another one. I waited until last week to have the other one, and the doctor's office called this morning and the results came back normal!! That was a huge relief!! So, I am booking my first solo cruise!! John only has three vacation days left until May 31. I have many cruise friends going on Navigator from New Orleans in February, so I am going, too!!! This house is EMPTY without my Mom and with my grandchildren in school and John at work!! Being a housewife is not all the fun it's cracked up to be! I am out of here!!!:)

Hopefully, 2013 will be a much brighter year for all of us!!
