Carnival Splendor vs. Carnival Pride

Ready2Cruise2014

Recommended Posts

Im looking to go on my first cruise in July 2014 for our 3rd Wedding Anniversary. I live in Southern NJ, making both Baltimore and New York ports just a short drive away.

Both ships sail to the exact same ports so that is not an issue. I just wanted to see which ship people like better. I hear mixed reviews about both, but wanted more insight. My husband is 30 and I 26. We are pretty laid back if that helps.:D

Thanks so much

Never sailed on the Splendor, but have sailed on the Pride. The Pride is a very dark atmosphere, but with that being said, she is an AWESOME ship. Crew, condition of the ship, etc is excellent. The only think I have heard about the Splendor, is, ummmm, well, as of recently, is the propulsion issues, and that she is very PINK. I think you will have a BLAST on either of them. Good luck, and keep us posted.:D

Have never been on the splendor but have on the Pride and Miracle (sisters). When the splendor comes to NY, we will be driving to Baltimore for the Pride. Not a fan of the ship design of the splendor, plus too many more people onboard the splendor than the Pride.

Pride has one MDR in the aft (2 levels) which makes it easier to get from one end of the ship to another on all decks (no having to go up or down on certain levels to get through). However, parts of the MDR are over the motor.

On the artistic side, its very classic, with many nude style paintings. I loved the only cruise I took on her when she was on the West Coast. Lots of balconys on both ships, with entertainment levels below the cabins.

Going on the pride for the second time...I think its a fantastic ship..as far as dark atmosphere i will never understand that lol thats what i was seeing on reviews..glad i didnt listen to it ..if your looking for vegas style neons well its not there...People make what they want out of a ship i guess .Was going to do the splendor just for a different ship. But im really not into driving in big cities...though i love nyc bu driving no thanks lol..thats just me....i dont think you would make a mistake on the pride

I've been on the Pride and will be on the Splendor today - oops, make that tomorrow (the Splendor is getting back one day late). The Spirit class (the Pride is a Spirit class ship) is my favorite class of ship. The Spirit class has a better space ratio (space per person) of all the Carnival ships and is easier to navigate (you can go from bow to stern on all the passenger decks. It is the only Carnival class ship in which you can do that.

We did the Pride last year and after 7 cruises it was the best to date. Loved the ship, art and crew. Just the right size: not to big or to small. We had the extended balcony cabin on deck 8 and it was a great deal. The port is easy to get to and very small, so not hard to get on or off. You park right in front of the ship and can locate your car as you are exciting the tunnel. Parking I think was $25 per day, fensed in and no worries about it getting broken into while on vacation. We are gonna be cruising on the Splendor out of NY March 31 for 8 days and can not wait. We are booked with 2 inside cabins on deck 7 this time, never have done an inside cabin before but it was alot cheaper than putting a family of 4 in oceanview. Hopefully i will not be disappointed because i really loved my balcony last year. I think you will be happy either way. Depending onwhen you go, if weather is gonna be cool and it really doesn't matter which ship, I would cruise from Balitmore because you will be in the warm weather faster.:D

I have been on the Spirit...great layout..and Cunard uses same hull design on Queen Victoria..so that should give validation to the bonus there on layout. Splendor however has a unique..there is only one like her design..I hope that has nothing to do with current problems and doubt that is the case. They both have the finer dining steak house which i think is a great feature for vacation...

Splendor has the Cloud 9 larger Spa and special spa cabins and the thalossotherapy pool so many like...that is extra fee for those cabins and/or pass planning but might be very nice for the east coast cooler days...

Pride will still have a spa and hot tubs etc. just not the bigger concept...read the details here on the ship reviews...Sarah

The Splendor has sisters. The Splendor's sisters are part of the Costa fleet (Carnival owns Costa).

We have been on both and loved both. The Pride is a little smaller but a great ship with a great layout and more classical decor. The splendor is bigger still a great ship with a more whimsical decor. I don't think you could go wrong with either. I would go with the better price. They have many of the same amenities. Splendor does have the cloud nine spa and seaside theater and the waterworks but other than that it seems they have the same to offer.

Of course this is true...but within the specific Carnival cruises line...everyone says she is only one...Sarah

Hands down Splendor is a much nicer ship.

And today is the one year anniversary of the Concordia disaster. There are shows on TV today reviewing what happened.

Hi everyone yes...I was following the article here and then today, sad memories...wonder if technically the Spirit ships are better stability wise..have no idea..but I thought Concordia has similar design and Costa also has a Spirit class one ....at any rate she was too big to get that close to shore and off the course...sigh.......

My wife and I have been on both ths Splendor and the Pride .In fact we have cruised on the pride twice. That being said both ships are great but my first choice would be the Pride. The Pride seemed less crowed and the Steak house on the pride was a lot better then on the Splendor.
