GeorgesGal Posted January 19, 2013 #26 Share Posted January 19, 2013 The only time we encountered rough seas for most of our voyage was when we cruised in January. Except for the Windward Passage where it is always somewhat rough. Believe that is between Puerto Rico and Hispaniola. Donna
JLSPOOL Posted January 19, 2013 #27 Share Posted January 19, 2013 We are sailing to the Caribbean in 3 weeks. We went to the doctor today to get something for sea sickness (I have suffered from it in the past two times, don't wish a 3rd). We got the patch, some anti vert (sp) and were recommended to get seabands if we didn't want to take meds. You might try a patch before you go to make sure the patch doesn't make you sick. I put a patch behind my ear a few days before cruising to counter Atlantic waves. The Caribbean is more calm. JSP
fredflint Posted January 19, 2013 #28 Share Posted January 19, 2013 here is a link to a map of the currents no guarantees about the weather but where the currents meet you are more likely to have issues. I have not sailed the Caribbean for a while but I always had 2 bad days. Ginger helped bonine if I took it before, the patch left me dopy, but it has been a while. I am going on a TA this fall so will be bringing bonine and probably a patch. http://www.1yachtua.com/caribbean_sailing/caribbean_sea.asp I do wish you could still get the patch ingredient scopolamine in pill form. kitty9 Posted January 19, 2013 #29 Share Posted January 19, 2013 It can be smooth as glass at 1pm and then you could get 20ft seas by 1:30. There's no telling about seas on any particular day.
