Avoid the Inspiration at all cost!!!

In reading some of the OP other post, it seems like he was having a problem with "upper managment" on Princess too. So those of you who already have the Inspiration booked, I wouldn't let this thread bring you down. I am sure you will have a wonderful time. He just seems to be one of those negative people who are never satisfied.

Pack a can of lysol...or bring along some of those little battery powered air fresheners....

Make sure you get them at Wal-Mart,since yoiu will be going on the Wal-Mart of cruise lines :D

So are you upset that your cheap company booked a Carnival cruise or are you trying to be the hero because your group "pitched a good fit" and now all the Inspiration's problems are solved?

Seems like someone thinks too highly of themselves. Especially to call someone they don't know, a red-neck or consider them a lower class of passenger. Unless, of course, you're speaking of the people that were traveling with you.

How can you write a letter of complaint to a company when you yourself don't even know the facts that pertain to you? There are no 6E cabins on any of the Fantasy class ships. Regardless of what area of the country you live in. And you would never have gotten an upgrade from an oceanview cabin to any of the suites on the Verandah deck unless you booked a guarantee. And the way you spoke of the upgrade seems that wasn't the case.

And I too have never seen anyone in the Lido after even 9am in their pajamas and especially never in their underwear.

How often on your cruise did you notice parents buying their children drinks? This too I have never seen. Unless, again, you're speaking of those that traveled with you.

Sorry that your AC didn't work and that you had to endure the sewer smell. I have to say these two items have been brought up before concerning other ships, on various lines.

A little more info and a little less exaggeration might help us to understand better.

M<y son was on the Inspiration on the May 22 or 23 rd sailing and he too said the sewer smell all week was very gross and it was more smelling in the port of Cozumel. He did take lysol and the plug in air freshners and got no relief. He did not get the new blankets...still had the blue ones at night and the printed blanket during the day. He still had a great time though. His biggest complaint was that too much was going on at the same time as the Gala buffet and it was a hard choice to decide which to attend.

I wondered how long it would be before the Walmart comparison got brought out.

OP, sorry the trip did not met your expectations. You have valid complaints on AC and plumbing problems, they should have been addressed.

This is not directed at the OP but I have observed that many of the Carnival bashers, those who find nothing good to say, must come aboard with very unrealistic expectations. They are happy to jump on the low prices but then expect to be treated as though they were paying $500 to $1000 a day. At $100-$200 per day per person. you are transported, food is cooked, served and the dishes washed, your room is cleaned, and you are offered entertainment. I'd say it is a pretty good deal.

It is as though they are paying for a Chevy but mad because they aren't getting a Mercedes. (No disrespect to Chevy's, I own 2)

Some of the food is excellent, some of it is "family dining" but I've never had anything that is "high school cafeteria" quality. Again I think some of it it is a matter of unrealistic expectations.

I do think that a lot of expectations are too high.If everything was perfect on the ship the prices would be too high for any of us too cruise.;)

And this is why I try to tell new cruisers to anticiapte your cruise.. but have no expectations - and Ill bet you will have a great time no matter what.

Always makes me wonder where these people shop. I don't know about anyone else, but I still need deodorant, toilet paper, soap, shampoo, paper towels and toothpaste. I guess I could pay the inflated prices at my local grocery store, but I shop around for the best price on these things just like I do for my vacations.

I just don't understand why people rag on Walmart. I don't shop there very often but it's not because I'm above it. We have a local grocery chain that is as inexpensive and it is closer to my house.

As far as Carnival goes, yes it is budget but that's ok with me. I can cruise more often. It's nice enough for me but then I happen to like beer and potato chips. :)

I have had this problem on other Carnival ships but last month on the Sovereign of the Seas there was a sewer smell down on decks two and three. I only noticed the smell on those decks and was only down there when coming on and off the ships in port. I have actually had the smell on brand new ships.

We didn't smell it on our SOS cruise, luckily. But had heard it was a problem. Cruisers have had the same two problems (sewer smell and AC) on the Destiny too.

Some of these complaints on the boards can't be singled out to one cruiseline. There was so much crud flying here when Carnival's ships were having propulsion problems, and people were screaming about Carnival's poor maintenance, yet if you go over to the X boards the same issues are happening on their ships (namely, the Summit)

Yes, Carnival may be different than other cruise lines in some areas, as easch of them are different, but most the complaint issues that come up on this board are issues that can happen on ANY cruise....sewer smell being one of them.

There can be a lousy crew member on any ship. There can be rough weather on any cruise and the food on each lines varies from ship to ship and from sailing to sailing. I've heard that HAL serves meatloaf one night! Itineraries change on any line at any time if circumstances warrant it. Yet people come here and blast this particular cruise line and worse, insult the passengers that sail it.

AND it gets WORSE! I was over on the Cunard boards and since Princess has basically taken over Cunard, some posters on those boards not only insult Princess passengers BUT have the NERVE to insult Princess SHIP CAPTAINS!!!! Coming right out and saying they are less worthy than a Captain that sails any of the 'Queen' ships....and God forbid, they aren't Brittish!!!

I still go with the mind set that says, no cruise is all bad and it beats any other vacation out there....people who find all these issues that come up on a cruise intollerable, should really stick to land vacations. And people that don't like the wonderfully diverse mix of passengers that sail Carnival should also stick to flying someplace.

You advise take the larger ships and leave the older Carnival ships alone. Our first two cruises were on the Holiday and this last one was on the Sensation. We also had a balcony on the Verandah deck and had no problem with noise. We made sure that we didn't have an obstructive view and also were not under anything that would cause noise. We are booked on the Conquest next year but, I would not hesitate to sail those two ships again. All three of our cruises have been wonderful as we went with the attitude that we were going to enjoy. No phone calls from the kids was worth the trip alone.

Sorry your cruise was not as good as you had wanted.

addressed and I will post a review on my Inspiration trip as soon as I get back, so keep a watch on this board! I am just happy to be getting away, so don't be surprised if I don't gripe too much, but I will promise to be as honest as I can. :D

I just returned from this same cruise. This is my fourth cruise, the last one was on the Victory back in 2002. Our cabin was on the Empress deck near the Atrium end. We didn't notice any sewer smells nor did we have trouble with the AC. I felt that the ship was in very good condition for it's age.
I have to agree about the entertainment. Melvin Bell was the comedian the first night. It was so bad that I thought about skipping his midnight adult show. As it turned out, his midnight show was better. I thought the Gaucho's did a good job, but what the heck was that SNL John Belushi act about? The cruise director as star of the show?
We lasted about 10 minutes, which is longer than some of the other people who were filing out during this so called performance. I was actually embarassed for Carnival.
The two main shows were more in line with my expectations.
A lot of teens were on this cruise - several graduation classes, but I thought that they were well behaved, at least when I saw them in the public areas. But, I did observe adults getting alcoholic drinks for some minors.
I found the food to be very good. Both in the dining room and on the Lido deck.
We had a wonderful time and we can't wait to go back.
Cruise buisness is losing a lot of the 'class' it used to have as they expand and try to price control. This is true of most of the lines. Celebrity is the only exception I have been on and of course you pay a bit extra with them.

Princess was my favorite until they went on a cost cutting bliz trying to avoid a hostil Carnival take over several years ago. Since Carnival got them, the service and quality has gone down noticably.

The fact is that like the airlines, they are trying to keep prices low and that takes a toll on quality. Ships are expensive to refit so they drag out maintenance. On the Inspiration, the floor labels in the elevator have been re-glued so many times, they were hard to read. The ship looks like it was decorated by Elvira which was the fashion 15 years ago... The AC is not able to keep up in most of the ship and the sewer system probably needs a tear down refit...

There is also the lines response to a lower class of passenger. Years back, I would never see passengers showing up to breakfast in night shirts, robes, and under clothes looking like they had not make any effort to clean up. Kids were suppervised by parents and the parents were not buying them drinks.

This was not my first choice of ship as I suspected, based on notes from this board, that it was not the ride for anyone who wanted more than liquid entertainment but I hoped it would be nice. The ports were great and the lower level staff did bust their butts to be helpful... All of the issues we had traced back to upper level staff not giving a damn... I will restate my biggest suggestion and that is to make everyone on the ship equally reliant on tips for pay. I bet you would notice a big difference....
Wow...i agree with some of the previous posters...doesnt sound like anything would have made you happy...In fact it kinda sounds to me like you have it in for carnival in a way...just my opinion...
Part of the atmosphere of being on a cruise is the sometimes outlandish, and sometimes even gawdy decor of the ship. I've found it quite amusing on a couple of the ships I have been on that they try so hard to make it look fancy/high class that they go way overboard on the "tacky" scale.
IME, Carnival is the only cruise line that has ships decorated in this fashion. I think they go for bold and fun and don't concern themselves too much with high class.

It seems to work well for them and their fans.
Sorry to hear you had such a bad time. Maybe you should have used the Vacation Guarantee.
My friend and I tried to use the vacation guarantee on Inspiration back in 1998. We were 26 hours into the cruise and cutoff was 24. Just was not our cup of tea.

It was amongst the worst of my cruises.
