Help! Gothenburg RCCL Excursions Questions

Recommended Posts

Has anyone taken RCCL's excursions to either:

  • West Coast Islands - GF14 (4 Hr) Coach to Klaedesholmen and Skarhamn

  • Marstrand & the Scenic West Coast - GF22 (5.5 Hr) Ferry to Marstrand

Interested in your impressions - Picturesque? Worthwhile? Enough time for a little shopping? And for a bite to eat?

If you instead used a private tour to either of these locations I would appreciate information regarding your tour and the tour company.

We will be docked at the Arendal outer harbor way out of town - if you were docked there also, did your excursion leave from the outer harbor dock? Or did you first have to take a shuttle downtown? If so, did you have to pay additional for the shuttle service or was it included in the price of the ships' excursion?

Thanks for any assistance you may be able to provide.

Larry

Guess there are not a lot of cruisers out there that have taken one of these excursions.

But the Brilliance will be in Gothenburg on 5 cruises before mine on July 14th. So please check in if you take either of these excursions on your May, June or early July Baltic cruise.

Thanks

Larry

I've been to Marstrand on several occasions and it is indeed picturesque and very nice.

Not so big though and quite expensive. During the summer prime weeks

expect allot of tourist. Especially during Marstrand's match-cup week.

Which is a part of of the match racing world tour.

As for Klädesholmen and Skarhamn I've never been there so I don't really know much about them. But a bunch of links:

Imo Marstrand if definitely the best of those two options.

Marstrand is beautiful. I have not done it as an excursion but as a day trip from Kungsbacka. It's just so quaint and lovely; even with the heavy rain we experienced it was still a great day.

We have ported with RCI's Jewel at Gothenburg...We used the ship bus tranfer into town (a 1/2 hr - 45 min trip as the dock is a very industrial one far removed from the city) and noticed those on RCI excursions boarded buses exclusively for their tours. I can assume there wasn't a separate charge for this..We also saw excursion buses dropping off passengers post-excursion in town and again assume they had (like other RCI excursions) transportation back to the ship..

Hi Larry

We are at Heathrow Airport after our 2 day post cruise stay in London from our May 27th sailing on the Brilliance. All I can say is WOW! Great cruise! We actually really enjoyed Gothenburg after expecting the worse from negative reviews. Maybe because it was a beautiful, sunny day! We did the ship shuttle to the city center (round trip $15.00 pp, purchased on board with Sea Pass card from excursion desk day before) and did the Padden Boats (hop on/hop off) and walked around Haga (cute little old town) and had lunch in City Centre. Lots of open green parks and we thought it was lovely and easy to DIY. when we got back to port we walked around the Volvo Museum a bit which was pretty cool. We did not have to pay for some reason, just walked in and looked around a little bit before boarding the ship. The museum is right where the ship docks. Hope this helps! Take care and enjoy your cruise! It is truly amazing! :)
