feeling dumb here, but what is geocaching?

It's like a treasure hunt type thing. People plant caches throughout the world and you enter the coordinates into your GPS and search for them. Check out geocaching.com if you would like more information or would like to try it out.

We're on this same cruise, leaving this Saturday. To confirm, the formal nights were the third night (Monday) and Grand Turk (Thursday)? I have a steakhouse reservation for Sunday night (Half Moon Cay), which is our 1 yr anniversary. I want to make sure we don't miss the lobster night in the MDR. Thanks!

Thank you so much for this wonderful review and for all of the beautiful pictures! I was considering booking The Liberty for an anniversary cruise in November and now I am definitely sold. Your ship pics were the deciding factor! The decor of this ship is so different from the other 2 ships I have cruised on (Glory X1 and Dream x2- 3rd Dream cruise booked for June). I have heard others say that The Liberty's decor was tacky, but in your pics it reminds me of an old cruise ship like you would see in a movie. The port pics were all so beautiful that I am even more excited about taking this trip than the one I already have booked :p. I'm also looking forward to hopefully winning another ship on a stick! Thanks again!!!!:D

Awesome review! Thanks for finishing right before I head aboard the Liberty myself! One quick question that I think I asked before, but it may have gotten buried in the posts. For the free San Juan trolleys, how do you know which ones go to the forts/back to the dock? Do they have the names (El Morro, etc.) posted on the front like a bus or something or do you have to ask the driver?

Yes, that is correct.

I think the one that just goes between the forts and the port are called Historical or something like that. All of the shuttles should stop at both the forts and the port though, some just go a little further around San Juan than others.

Awesome review! Thanks for taking the time to share it with us. I can truly appreciate the time that goes into posting such a lengthy review. We will be on the Liberty June 29th. We're doing the Western Caribbean, but your pics of the ship were really nice!!:)

I know some people don’t enjoy long reviews, so before I start, I’ll post my general thoughts and cliff notes.

Overall Cruise: Very good! Absolutely loved the ports and really enjoyed being on a ship that we were familiar with (we sailed on the Freedom previously, which is a sister ship to the Liberty). I wouldn’t say this is my favorite cruise we have ever taken, but it was a ton of fun and I was sad to be kicked off the ship at the end. The majority of our fellow cruisers were older (most over the age of 40), so that made the ship a little quieter than normal, which was very nice! It was also really interesting the majority of the ship was not from Florida. We only met 2 or 3 other couples from Florida the entire trip.

Overall Thoughts on the Ship: Love the layout of the Conquest class ships. By far my favorite. I did not like the decoration on this particular ship, but that’s no big deal. I loved the new 2.0 additions. My only complaint is with the sports bar. I love the new space and would have loved to have spent even more time in there, but the smoking machines in the casino are right around the corner, so the sports bar has a really strong smell of smoke.

Overall Thoughts on Food & Dining: Love the 2.0 upgrades made to the dining areas! Guy’s Burgers were very good. Wasn’t a huge fan of Blue Iguana cantina for lunch, but really enjoyed it for breakfast. The Punchliner Brunch is a fantastic addition and their menu items are really tasty. The Taste Bar is a great idea, but I wasn’t such a fan of most of the offerings.

Overall Thoughts on Entertainment: There were a total of 4 shows including Carnival Legends and they were all very good. The ship was in the middle of a cast change. You could tell in some parts that the cast was inexperienced, but they were still very talented. Emilio, the guy who ran the trivia, was one of the most fun people on the ship and made our experience great.

Overall Thoughts on FTTF: Completely worth the money when sailing out of the Port of Miami. We were through security and check-in with 15 minutes and onboard before 11:30am. Went straight to our room and dropped off our carry-ons. The remainder of our luggage was delivered around 1:30pm. Had to use guest services a couple times and was able to walk right up to the desk in the Plantinum/Diamond/FTTF line. Did priority tendering in HMC and they escorted us straight down to the tender when we were ready. We used the priority debarkation and we were off the ship around 7:15am. It took a while for us to find our luggage, but we were still out of the port and on the road before 7:45am. This was fantastic because we were able to beat all the traffic.

Half Moon Cay: This is by far the most gorgeous place I have ever visited. The sand is so white and the water is so clear. We walked all the way down the beach and we were the only ones down there for a while. The beach area next to the ship was packed though, so if you want quietness, walk further down the beach.

St. Thomas: We used Godfrey Tours and this was a fantastic decision. He did a fantastic tour and it was very inexpensive. I would highly recommend his tour to others.

San Juan: We took the trolley up to El Morro, which was very simple to figure out. El Morro was huge and took us about 3 hours to look through the entire place. The view is gorgeous. Do not miss sailaway if you’re going to San Juan. It is one of the most scenic sailaways I have ever seen.

Grand Turk: We got off the ship for about 30 minutes and then went back on. We were not in the mood for another beach day and all that is really here is a beach and Margaritaville. Would not really be interested in visiting this port again.

Love your review except for the part about all the "old" people on the ship. lol Just kidding. I fall into that catagory at the old age of 46. Can't wait to see all your pictures. We are doing this same trip in October.

On St. Thomas, we are taking the St. John Champagne Catamaran trip which is from 1:30 to 5:30 pm. Did you happen to hear of anyone missing the ship? I'm worried that it gets back so late and the ship leaves at 6:00 pm.

On Grand Turk, we are taking the Doon Buggy Trip. It sounded like fun. Hopefully it will be.

Glad you had a great time. :)

Ooooh yeah! Mocha chocolate getaway is my absolute fav! Glad you liked it too! :D

Mocha Chocolate Getaway is my favorite also.

By the way, you can order a Banana Split in the MDR because it's on the children's menu. It's made with 1/2 of a banana & 2 or 3 smaller scoops of ice cream.

My SO ordered one every night of our B2B - 14 in all! I had one a few nights, but I can't miss something like Creme Brulee.

Wow! So far, I have loved looking at all your pictures and reading your report. Just wish I had more than an hour for lunch. I will have to continue reading this later. Isn't it a shame that work gets in the way of our fun. :)

Well, I'm all done with the review. Again, I am so sorry it took so long. I hoped you enjoyed it though!

I do check Cruise Critic most evenings, so if you have any questions, please leave them here and I will answer them as quickly as possible.

Thanks for reading!

Thanks so much, navybaby1113, for an excellent, thorough review. We sailed on Liberty for a B2B in 2008 before the 2.0 upgrades.

We're doing another B2B on Liberty, January 2014. The 1st leg for us is Eastern, the 2nd leg is Western. We've been to all the ports except for Half Moon Cay, so we're really looking forward to that.

I'm also looking forward to San Juan as the one time we were there (1st cruise in December, 2003), we arrived around 4, boarded a bus for our city tour, and it was dark before we got anywhere because we were behind a garbage truck picking up trash!!! When we got to the fort it was so dark that all we saw was a "blob" with a flood light. Unbelievable. It was so dark because it was winter when we cruised.
