Jewel Of The Seas 3/7 - 3/11 Review with lots of pics

Recommended Posts

Cindy and I are just back from our second cruise ever. The first was Freedom Of The Seas last year, seven night eastern. This year was a last minute decision where last year was a 13 month wait. We did the 4 night on the Jewel to Cozumel and may I say it turned out to be the best vacation we ever had in our 26 years of marriage . :D

So if you would like to follow along, we will be more than happy to share it with you. :D

We drove down from Jackson Georgia on Wednesday and stayed at the Country Inn and Suits in Brandon about 7 miles from the port. We checked in at around 3 pm. then went and visited with some of Cindy's family, checked out the mall and looked for dinner. So before we even get on the ship lets start with a little food porn! ( There will be a lot of that in this review ) ;)

By the way, We chose Red Lobster for dinner.

Thursday we woke up early and headed down to the port around 9.30 am. Our plan was to park and then walk around the shops till 11 or so. We chose to prepay for valet parking at the port for $80 and would soooooo recommend it. Was well worth the money.

When we arrived it was very busy with people disembarking.( we should not have arrived so early) We got in the wrong line and the taxi driver in front of us very politely told us were we needed to go. After getting where we needed to be it was all down hill. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and well organized. Just a feel good moment that lasted the whole trip.

Anyway it was to cold and windy to walk down to the shops like we had planned so we took some pictures and went inside to wait.

Compass Photos? We are doing the 4 day leaving on April 4th. The recent set of Jewel reviews has been the only thing making our miserable weather bearable. Looking forward to the review!

We do have the Compass's but have not scanned them yet. Give us a couple of days and we will get them for you.

The reviews are what kept us going last year. That's why we try to do one. Plus, we felt this cruise deserved one.

We did have to wait a little before they started checking us in. but like I said, we were early. I think it was about 11am when they started letting us board. Smooth and easy!:)

Our room was ready at 1 pm and our luggage was there also, except for one bag that arrived later with a letter in it saying it had been searched. ( note to self, tape the top of the full can of hair spray on before you put it into checked baggage! A new can in gift shop is $6 )

You will love this ship. The crew is wonderful. They really made the trip for us.

Everyone from the people at the port to everyone we came in contact with on the ship. I can not say enough about them. They are the main reason we wanted to do this review. Cindy and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. :D

Time for our first dinner in the main dinning room.

I (Jeff )dreaded this. I don't eat fancy food and really don't eat much. Lets just say a picky eater big time. The first night at dinner i was sick as a dog and was hoping Cindy would just get a doggy bag and take it back to the room. I did hold out till she finished but I was finished for the night i am sorry to say. I am still glad I went. She was so looking forward to it.

We did have my time dinning which we loved. We only made a reservation the first night and never had to wait more than a couple of min. the others. We were so glad we got the same table and wait staff every night. Our last cruise we only used the main dinning room for breakfast the last two days. This time we used it breakfast and dinner every day. More to come about this a little later.

Great start!

Sorry you had a sick night on day one. At least you had a chance to get a good night's sleep (I hope) to break that problem.

TY for posting the cabin picture as well. Cruising on Serenade in the same cabin category with the connection next year. :)

Thank you. I was just so glad it only lasted that night. Not sure what caused it. There was no motion on the ship and had not eat or drink much. oh well.

And we slept like a baby that night. The beds on there ships are so comfortable. I would sneak one home in my suit case if it would fit ! :D

Have a great time on your cruise. Don't forget to do your review when you get back.

Thanks for much for sharing. On the Jewel the 21st. Did people dress for formal night? We have always cruised 7 days so not really sure how formal the 4 nights cruises are. We would like to dress up and maybe rent tuxes on board. Love your photos! Also, are there any theme nights? Thanks for any information you can share.

Why did they have to search your bag? I thought they called you down to have you there when they searched bags.

That's what we thought to. Not sure why unless they heard the hair spray or thought our hair dryer was a gun. It was our bathroom bag so no big deal to us. I have read about being called down to the naughty room. Maybe that's if they do find something you shouldn't have.

You are very welcome. Our pleasure.

We had one formal night on Friday, the first sea day. It did not seem to us that as many people dressed up as they did on the 7 night we took last year. We did because we wanted to enjoy the dinning room feel that we did not do on last cruise. Did see at least one person in a tux. Don't worry about anyone else. This is your cruise! Dress up as much as you want!!! And they did do pictures every night but the first night. We had some made in our casual cloths and we think they turned out great.

And yes they had 70's night on second sea day. We have pictures we will post.
