Oreo's awesome breeze review 3/10 to 3/16

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow cruisers! So this will be my first ever review on CC so please bear with me. I know there are so real pros out there who have set the bar super high when it comes to cruise reviews so I will attempt to do my best even though I have no idea what I’m doing. Again, this is my first time. So please…be gentle.

Okay, so first things first. Introductions. In order to protect the innocent, I’ll call myself “K”, like Tommy Lee Jones’ character in Men in Black. I’m from a suburb of Houston, TX called Richmond. I’m 36 years old, went to LSU, and am a Green Bay Packers Fan. My husband, we’ll call him “D”, is 31 years old, born and raised in Austin, went to the University of Houston, and is a Dallas Cowgirls fan. Please, don’t hold this against me. If I’d of known this before we got married…I’m just serious.

Here's a picture of us:

Anyhow, we have 1 child, a daughter, who we’ll call the little human. She’s 18 months and our precious little miracle. She didn’t go on this cruise with us cause momma was only willing to deal with one kid on this vacation. That just went over some of yall’s heads. Don’t worry. It will click later. Here's a picture of the little human:

attachment.php?attachmentid=264872&stc=1&d=1363656315

Moving on:

After many days of searching, researching, becoming exasperated, giving up, searching again, bugging the hell out of our PVP, negotiating with my husband about how much I would be willing to “give him” in exchange for him giving up going to the State Boys’ Basketball Tourney to go on a cruise instead, and finally just flat out lying to him about how much the cruise would really cost us (no, seriously, lol) we finally booked!!!! This would be only our second cruise together (first was our of San Juan, Puerto Rico on the Victory for our honeymoon. Best. Cruise. Ever.) but our 5th for each of us.

We chose the 6 day cruise out of MIAMI, FL on the fabulous NEW CARNIVAL BREEZE from March 10th to March 16th. Our scheduled itinerary would include Grand Turk, Ocho Rios, & Nassau. We were really excited and even though we knew the drive (18+ hours) would be a beast, we really couldn’t justify spending more on airline tickets for what we paid for the both of us to cruise. SO…we sucked it up and decided to make the drive.

We hit the road at 3:45pm sharp on Friday afternoon as we had decided to stay a night in Miami before we set sail on Sunday. We arrived at about 1:30 on Saturday afternoon after a pretty uneventful drive through the states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and then from one end of Florida to the other. I can definitely say, however, that I will never, ever be driving on the Florida Turnpike again. Humph. Waste of time and money. But I digress.

We booked a room at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel off of NE 2nd Street in Downtown Miami. It seemed like it was very close to the Port of Miami and centrally located to a lot of happening areas such as the Bayside Marketplace and it was also just across the bridge from South Beach. We caught a deal on priceline for $79.00. Woo hoo!!

After checking in, we dropped off our bags, walked around the lobby for a while, then headed over to the Bayside Marketplace for a little eat and a little drink.

First thing we did when we went over to the Bayside Marketplace was to find a place to get a drink. I will say that things are a little pricier than they are in Houston, but that’s okay, cause we’re on VACATION!!

attachment.php?attachmentid=264876&stc=1&d=1363656882

We found a bar called “The Other Bar” and got some delicious adult beverages. It was sort of chilly out so soon after, we decided to hit Bubba Gumps for some Seafood.

attachment.php?attachmentid=264877&stc=1&d=1363656941

I think this was called the sampler. It was very, very good for $14 and I was very impressed.

attachment.php?attachmentid=264878&stc=1&d=1363656998

Hubby just got a poboy and fries. He said it was pretty good as well. All in all, we were happy. Even though our waiter was drunk.:D

Once we got our fill of Bubba’s and grew tired of listening to our drunk waiter (he was entertaining though, I must say -- Nothing like hearing a drunk person try to say, “Mama always said life is like a box of chalk bits” -- hilarious) we ventured over to the American Airlines Center to take some pictures of the outside of the building. Ooh ahh. It would have been more exciting if there was actually a concert or the Heat had been in town for a home game, but NNOOOOOOOO, there was absolutely nothing happening there that night. Arrghhh!!! And to add insult to injury, there was some sort of huge “Ultra music festival” that they were setting up for in the Bayside Marketplace Park for the NEXT weekend.

Seriously? Stop playing with my emotions.

Are you sure this is your first review? You are off to a great start. Anxious to read the rest. Hope we left the ship in good shape when we got off on 3/16. I'm doing a review, too, I'm Calamity Jane (Delta Dear)

Love your humor, too.

So after being dragged up and down Ocean Avenue by my five-year old husband all night long in search of models and celebrities and ending up seeing mostly "women (and men) of the night" and male entertainers who attempt to dress like famous women but mostly ended up looking like "wonder woman on steroids" -- which ironically, I found to not only be entertaining, but extremely educational as well -- we got up bright and early at 7am ready to start our trek over to the Port of Miami cruise terminal. Yeeeaaahhh!!

Oh, and by the way, I DID take pictures of the persons of interest (trying really hard to be politically correct here) but I decided NOT to post them as in my attempt to be humorous, I would undoubtedly offend someone and decided to err on the side of caution.

After grabbing breakfast at a nearby Subway, we grabbed our vehicle, raced down BISCAYNE and crossed over the bridge to CRUISE CITY.

We parked at Terminal "D" which was very easy to find but was very expensive ($120.00 for the 6 days) but we felt was very convenient and safe. We practically ran over a group of elderly people ;) trying to get in line after dropping our bags off with the porter, then came to a screeching halt at what I will call the first "checkpoint". We waited for about 10 minutes before we presented our passports and boarding passes. After this we went to checkpoint 2 -- which is the equivalent to the security line at the airport where we walked through a metal detector and sent our bags through the conveyor belt. Now, we had about 12 small bottles of water and two bottles of wine in our carryons. They didn't glance at the wine but shook each and every one of those little bottles of water. Apparently, if they bubble, then you get shot on sight for trying to smuggle in alcohol. Its just. that. serious. Give me a break. I saw a group of about 20 people that had about 5 cases of water between them and they had to take every single bottle of water apart. I can't even imagine how long it took them to put them back in the plastic. That would have really put a damper on my vacay.

Anywho, so where was I? Oh yes, up the escalator to the less scary part of the terminal and where you start feeling like you are actually going on a ship and not to jail :D. Once up the escaltor, you get a set of dice, you ROLL, and then "7"!! CRAPS!! We got boarding group 7. Its about 10:30 at this point and the terminal is pretty full. I was pretty surprised to see how many people purposefully ignored the "do not come til 1:00" letter. Shame on them. What is wrong with these people? I was expecting to be the only ones there, lol!!

So after we crapped out we went directly over to a representative who issues us our sail and sign card, took some cash for us to slap down on it, and then we sat down and waited to be called. If I can remember correctly, I think they began calling special groups, FTTF, platimun, or Ruby or diamond or whtever the special people are called, and then wedding folks. After that the lady with the phone sex voice started calling the different boarding groups. She literally would say group 1 & 2...45 seconds later...and now groups 3 & 4....45 seconds later and now groups 5 & 6. It was no time at all. I'd say we were on the ship by about 11:30ish? AWESOME!!

The cruise was pretty awesome. Thanks for the cosign on how cute my daughter is. If she wasn't so cute, I probably woudn't be able to accept how BAD she is. Cute kids are always the worst, lol. But we love her anyway. ;)

Okay I am discovering that writing this review is becoming addictive. I am supposed to be putting my daughter to sleep but now that I've figured out how to post the pictures (thanks Calamity Jane) I CAN'T STOP. So, if one of these posts has a whole bunch of letters or numbers in some wierd, unidentifiable order, its just my daughter's contribution to this review. At the moment she is sitting on my lap banging on the keys. Its just a matter of time before she clicks "enter" and posts some of her gibberish.

Here is a picture of Downtown Miami before we sailed.

The first few hours aboard the Breeze were spent mostly wandering around and people watching. We were very, very impressed with not only the size of the ship but quite possibly, this ship had one of the best layouts of all the ships I have had the opportunity to sail on. I really enjoyed being able to hang out at different areas of the ship and not just the lido deck. You had so many different things to do, places to eat, and little fun places to discover. We not only hung out at the venues on the Lido deck but we also spent a lot of time at the Ocean Plaza, the Lanai, the Piano Bar, both MDRs, the bar's on the Lido deck, the Italian Restaurant, the Red Frog Pub, the Serenity Deck, the Casino, and the list goes on.

There have been some very good and detailed picture reviews of the Breeze thus far with countless pictures of all the places on the ship so I won't add to that here. Some things you just have to see for yourself. I can say, for those planning to cruise aboard the Breeze anytime in the near future to def check out: EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THE FOOD VENUES as well as to spend some time on the SERENITY DECK and find some of the HOT TUBS. I found that the Punchliner Brunch was very good in the Sapphire MDR in the mornings as well as Thomas Brown (the comedian late at night). By the way, the HOT TUBS are located on the starboard and port sides of deck 5, the lido deck AFT, and the Serenity deck. Yes, there were lots of kids on our cruise and they do tend to, for some reason mistake the hot tubs (which I personally feel are for ADULTS) for sand boxes. However, if they get too rowdy or splashy you can simply ask them to calm down and be respectful of others. Or, if that doesn't work, just kick them under the water a few times. No, I'm just kidding. That's terrible. Insert funny story here: So, we were riding up on the elevator from the casino one night around 3am and we saw one of the comedians in the elevator. He was really cool and as we had to go from deck 5 to deck 9 where our cabin was located, we naturally had to stop on a couple of floors. Now, on one particular floor we stopped on a group of about six kiddos got on (I would say they ranged in age from about 11 to maybe 13) and were acting like they had been snorting sugar all night long I promise you. They were like screaming and laughing and jumping up and down in the elevator and my husband and I along with the comedian were all looking at each other like, seriously? Its 3 o'clock in the morning. So anyway, at one point on young man stepped on the comedian's shoe and he was like, "hey, man, yall need to calm down. Its too late for all this noise. Why don't yall head back to your room?" So the young man says, "yeah, you need to go back to your room too, you're too old to be up this late." I just about died I laughed so hard. The comedian got a little miffed and told them he was going to come and bang on their door at 7am and that shut them up for a minute. I guess he's not smarter than a fifth grader, lol!!

Loving your review and great sense of humor. We will be on the Breeze in June (and are very much looking forward to it). Having a spouse, I can totally relate to the "child" remark you made at the beginning (only dealing with one child), although I often believe that my teenagers are better behaved.

Love the story about the kids in the elevator. On our second cruise (on the Dream), there were a bunch of kids running around by the stairs and elevators on one of the decks (I think the Lido but am not sure anymore), I'd say they were probably about 12. They just didn't care who they ran into or in the way of. One ran past me (to close for my comfort) just as I was starting to move and tripped over my foot, and because he was running, he practically flew across the space of the floor. I knew it was my foot that he tripped over and tried hard not to laugh while he blamed each of his friends for tripping him. When we got into the elevator, I couldn't contain my laughter any longer - it truly was very funny.

Looking forward to reading more of your review (even tho yours was a six day and ours is an eight day, I like to read about others' trip and see their pictures). :D

Hello fellow SpringBreakBreezer, Calamit Jane, Thanks for the advice. I will try and redo in the morning!!

Some friends who did a back to back said your week had LOTS more springbreakers. I hear it was louder and more crowded. Either way, it was a great ship !

I forgot to say how cute your little human is. LOL. With your spirit, she must be a firecracker, too.

By the way, you win the Wife of the Year award if you got your husband to miss a sporting event. We are all impressed! It was a long time before I told my husband that our 2010 cruise was on Super Bowl Sunday. I waited to tell him that AFTER it was clear that the Eagles would not be playing ! If they had been, I think I would have been a Solo Cruiser.

I LOVE your review.

So last night when I was writing this my five year old got really jealous and was like, "why are you still obsessing over that stupid website. The cruise is over! You need to tend to your man!"

I looked him straight in the eye and said, "you're not going to make me choose between you and my family."

Then he rolls his eyes and says, "What are you doing, anyway?"

I say, "I'm writing a review of our cruise from my point of view."

He goes, "Well, you better not be on there talking about me and calling me a five year old."

Silence.

Then he says in his creepy, "Carrie" movie voice, "They're all gonna laugh at you."

And wouldn't you know it I was thinking to myself all night long that people were going to read my review and be like, who is this Oreo person that beats children, verbally abuses her husband, and uses coarse language? Release the hounds!!!!!

But then I woke up, came to work, signed on, found my post and I saw all these nice comments. Whew!! You do like me!! Thanks, family!!:D

The first ting we ate on board was a burger from Guy’s Burger Joint. Other CCer’s are were telling the truth: IT WAS DELICIOUS.

IMAG1842_zps2bdbd480.jpg

IMAG1843_zps5b6cf2b5.jpg

Next, we tried a burrito from the Blue Iguana Cantina – I think that’s the name of it. It was pretty good although I found the fixings to be a little Luke warmish. Once we finished walking around we found some loungers up on the 11th deck overlooking the lido. I got a few picks of the pool, CARNIVAL waterworks and some other stuff. Nothing no one hasn’t seen 100 times before.

We had stateroom 9451, AFT, on the starboard side. I really like balcony rooms and although someone whose name I shall not mention, is a fraidy cat and refused to sit out there for more than 30 seconds the whole cruise. It was very quiet out there although it was close enough for me to ear hustle on the conversations taking place in the hot tubs down on the 5th deck. Nothing too juicy.

I think our room was ready around 1:00 and once we dropped off our carryon’s stuffed our face a few more times, and then figured out where our table would be in the MDR we made our way to the Lanai to meet our ROLL CALL GROUP. We hooked up a few other CCer’s that were pretty cool such as JENALE 80, DUNNER, KASH49, POOH72, XCRUISEME17, and a few others I’m not even going to attempt to put faces to screen names – I’m just too old to remember all that. All in all, it was a great M&G and we def had more than our share of laughs (and drinks) even though we didn’t really get a chance to do much after the meet and greet as things were a little hectic. On the plus side, my husband did spark up a “BROmance” with Pooh72’s husband – but more on that later.

So after the meet and greet, we made our way back up to Lido deck to find a good seat for the SAIL AWAY. YAY!! ADIOS MIAMI
