Advantge/Disadvantage for Veranda Stateroom on Eclipse Bump Out

Because the two cabins on the slant both fore and aft of the hump have larger balconies.

However, we have specifically chosen a cabin on the flat part. This allows us to see both fore and aft, and we are in the small minority who prefer the smaller balconies because they make the rooms brighter--don't like a gloomy cabin!

We had 9215 on Eclipse, on the hump, the one before the straight bit. Fabulous location, central to lifts/stairs, very good view both down & forward & a very large balcony with both sun & shade/shelter. Did not feel the large balcony made the room dark/gloomy....chose a similar cabin for our Solstice cruise. :)

Actually, all four balconies on the angle have larger balconies, with the first & third off the hump both fore and aft having the largest of the four.

Has anyone experienced any noise issues from the atrium in the S-class ships when the band is playing at night?

I'm on the flat part of the bump on deck 7 on Reflection. I read a review of someone who was deck 10 midship and said they heard the music up there.

Thanks!

Oh right, sorry. And yes it is identical on both sides of the ship.

We were in 1552 on Eclipse, with the very large balcony. It seemed that when we walked down the halls forward (not the overhanging part) the rooms seemed so much brighter and sunnier than ours! So that's why we booked on the hump this time. We also really wanted to be midship, and we don't like having our view blocked by the bumpout--very convoluted but we're happy with our choice, we'll see what we think when we get on board.

In a word, YES! On the Reflection in October, we were in room 8244, and we heard the music playing in the atrium whenever it was being performed. It was mostly the "thump-thump" of the base notes, but we heard it. I'll admit, I'm a light sleeper and notice all noises around me, so I am more sensitive to it than most people. But even my wife, who usually doesn't notice such noise, mentioned that she could hear it. I use my ear plugs and was fine, but without them I would have gone nuts.

We loved this hump room on the flat side of the hump because we like to see towards the front and rear of the ship - a full 180 degree view, which the slant cabins can't offer. And the location is so convenient to the main elevators, which are the main connection to all the ship's features. If we were to book in this area again, we'd go with the rooms more towards the front of the flat hump. These are further away from the open door between the elevator/atrium area and the hallway, and would be slightly further away from the noise.

I've sailed twice in a 1A, first cabin on the slant off the hump. Never heard a peep from the atrium. Also did not feel that the large balcony made the cabin darker. We still needed to close our drapes in the late afternoon if we didn't want the sun shining into the cabin. That's an issue in the Caribbean; wasn't an issue in the Baltic.

We spent 29 days in a cabin on the flat section of the hump on deck 8 of the Eclipse and were never bothered by the music in the atrium or noise from the elevator area. Very quiet and private room..... It's our favorite section. We are booked again in the same area for our upcoming trip to the Baltic.

Happy Sailing

Wine-O, so those larger balconies are only on the port side, not the starboard? We picked 1610 on the Silhouette because we thought it was larger.

Or is that just a glitch in the schematic?

No, the thumbnail just shows the port side on Deck 9. It's the same from Deck 6 thru 12 on both port & starboard sides.

Were on the flat part but after reading here wonderd if we should move to the "slant"..We booked the flat side too for the reasons you noted above..wanted a clear view. Maybe we'll just stay where we are.

Perhaps the band on our cruise had the sound turned up more than usual, but there was indeed noise from the band that you could hear inside the cabin. The people in the cabin next to us were cruising with us, and they also heard the music. So did the people next to them. I am not imagining this - it really happened on our cruise, no matter how much you say you didn't hear the music on yours. I wish I could say the same, because I really dislike having to hear someone else's noise when I'm trying to sleep.

We are in 8238 on Silhouette for the upcoming TA. How late into the night did you hear the band?

Absolutley no dissadavantages from an angle balcony on S- Class- I sailed twice in 9209- one Eclipse one Silhouette, great location , close to the atrium, close to everything! If I would sail again on a S - Class - which I will NOT ( Millenium Class suite me better) - it would ask for that exact cabin again!

Usually sometime between 11:00pm to midnight. If going to bed early for an early excursion, you might hear the bass notes as a distant thumping sound. I ended up wearing my ear plugs every night to eliminate it's distraction, which, because I used to play in a band, I instantly focused on and couldn't ignore. Fortunately (or unfortunately in this case), even at the age of 62, and despite my band years, my hearing is still very good. Might just be my sensitive hearing that is the problem, and most people wouldn't even notice it.
