Kilkenny

Recommended Posts

We are docking in Waterford and I would like to spend the day in Kilkenny. There is a train that gets us there at 11:27 a.m. which is great. The return trips, however, are not so good. We can depart Kilkenny at 1:25, which only gives us two hours or we can depart at 4:52 which gets us back to Waterford 28 minutes before the ship's departure. Not knowing how long it would take us to get from the train station to the ship, I think that is a little close. The bus schedule is not much better.

My questions are: (1) Is it worth going to Kilkenny for only two hours? and (2) Could we get a taxi for the return trip and how much that might cost?

Thanks,
Marilyn

Kilkenny is a wonderful town. The castle and craft center are great. I don't think it's worth the hastle for only 2 hours. You could spend that at the castle alone. We were there overnight in October and really enjoyed our time there. If you have AOL go to the Ireland board there and ask for more information. Have a wonderful cruise.

Thanks, Joan, for your response. It was sort of what I thought. I think the only way we could do it is to find private transportation, either back from Kilkenny, or round trip.

Can only AOL users get on the board you mentioned?

BTW, enjoy your trip on Regatta. We depart Dover 6/14 on Insignia.

I hope you have a wonderful cruise on Insignia. This is our first Oceania cruise. I don't know anything about cab fares from Kilkenny. Hopefully, you can work something out. If not, it's a great reason to return and tour Ireland. We love it there.
