Dover question

Recommended Posts

Dover is small so it's not far, but not walking distance. Grab a cab. Ask your cab driver about the availability of cabs to get back down! (We had a rental car when we were there so I don't know) Or, perhaps, other cruisers could answer that question.

We spent a couple of hours there in September and took the WW II Underground Tunnel tour. You have to sign up for a specific time when you get there. This June we will spend some time in the pre-20th century part. The view of your ship and the rest of the harbor from up there is amazing. The view from town at night, with the lights shining on the Castle is amazing, too.

As Marilyn says you need to check in for a timed ticket for the tunnels tour. If it is a busy day the ticket they are issuing may be too late for you.

I would also wonder whether the castle entry fee of £8.50 per adult (Approx $15??) is worth while for just doing the tour of the tunnels which is only about 40 - 50 minutes long.

I was at Dover castle this weekend and loved it but it took us 9 hours over 2 days to do it justice.

Hope these points are useful to you.

Dover Castle in the town is one of the most spectacular in England. It has a Roman lighthouse and a neat World War II tour as well. Also In Dover is an excellent museum and a Roman painted house. So there is plenty to see and do.
