Passenger kicked off rhapsody for drunken incident

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't be surprised if the drink package was pulled soon. On the FOS recently there was much more drunkenness than I've ever seen on a Royal Caribbean ship. We have a very good time cruising but I just can't imagine drinking all day, every day, to make the package seem like a good deal to us.

Why would you assume that? Carnival, celebrity and other cruise lines all have drink packages. You're making an assumption that this person had the alcohol package. I've helped a lady stumbling down the steps from the diamond lounge yelling at people and slurring her words taking her to her cabin. Should they close the diamond lounge?

You cannot blame the drinkers when the companies offer it up on a free flow consumption basis!

Den

You are joking, right?

On another note, congrats on quitting smoking :) Im a quitter for almost 4 years now. I like your tracker.

RCCL should really offer non-alcoholic options with the drink package like Celebrity Cruises. Maybe if someone could get bottles of water, cappuccinos, special teas, etc. it may cut down on passengers just drinking alcohol.

Last November on AOS I saw many a drunk person and the drink package wasn't available on that cruise,I'm hoping they keep it because I like a few cocktails and they add up :) but I did think you could get cokes and stuff as well I will look into it more I guess

I agree with all that posted here. I can't drink, but think if YOU want too, go ahead, but it's an unwritten golden rule that YOU will be held accountable for your misconduct, due to excessive alcohol consumption. The pity of all this abuse is, that probably in the near future most cruise lines that have the 'all you can drink for X dollars' programs will receive so many complaints from passengers and ship's personnel that they will discontinue the program, hence EVERYBODY is punished for the actions of a few. Even when I could drink, I knew WHEN to stop. Most who don't believe this, will drink till they drunkenly swagger around till they crash into any handy object, walls, tables, nearby passengers and finally the floor, the whole time LOUDLY proclaiming, ' I'not d-dunk, I kowwwned I'm not !!' Then, if they're injured, they want to sue everybody because, 'It's THEIR fault, for giving ME the alcohol'. Maybeeee, they need to think about lowering the cost amount to $25 per person a day ? I'd hate to see them completely stop the program and punish all adults, for the childish actions of a few. Your thoughts ?

Agree -- but that still doesn't excuse the behavior of the person and my experience has been whether there is a package or not, some people will drink themselves to oblivion in the name of having fun causing irrational behavior. I know people from here in the past who have allotted 2K for alcohol consumption for two people for a 10 day cruise. This was before the drink package.

They're not worried about folks having a drink in their rooms. Anyone (over 21) can order a drink via room service or bring a drink from a bar to their room.
Then why don't they allow you to either purchase a 1 L bottle or bring one on? I really don't like to wait for room service or walking back & forth to a bar. The answer is $$$$

I would. If people are buying it, why would Royal pull it?

There have always been drunk people on cruises.

Seeing more of them after the drink package came along might just mean that you are looking more closely or noticing them more because now you know about the drink package and it's a convenient excuse.

I'm not flaming you Patty, it's just an observation.

I wouldn't buy the package either. I don't spend in a week the amount of money on booze the package costs a day

We just get the coke card....I usually only have like 1 drink the entire cruise (alcoholic).

I do try to get my money's worth with the carbonated beverages though.

Sometimes I will even have 4-5 diet cokes a day....I know I am pushing it....:D:D:D

Didnt RCI allow that before the George Smith incident? No doubt revenue is part of it but I dont think its ALL of the reason.

Um ... What assumption have I gotten wrong? I never said anything about the person having the alcohol package. I was merely stating MY observation on the 3/17 sailing of the Freedom that there were ALOT of people drinking alot.

A few years ago I would probably have taken the drink package for convenience. Like the soft drink package we always get - I have never tried to "get my monies" worth from it.

The problem, if indeed the problem with the individual was the package - is training of the bartenders and servers. They should be given power to cut someone off and trained on how to do it in a non confrontational manner.

As Sinppu mentioned - if you look you will always see inebriated people on the cruise ships. On a cruise a couple of years ago even before the muster drill we saw a woman sitting at the Schooner Bar 3 sheets to the wind. We were still in port!

How about a f I r s t hand report, then this thread might mean something:rolleyes:

I agree. I did see the woman break her ankle during the Quest Game Show, I saw the couple who won bingo when the grand prize was a relocation to an Owners Suite, they were on deck 2 and had never heard of a concierge club. They got shifted straight away, I think that was day 3. I did have a message on my cabin phone that was left to the previous occupants thanking them for saving the life of another passenger on a shore excursion. It was at Suva around the 27th of last month. I did not however see the guy get thrown off the ship.

I can't imagine forking out $15,000+ and then being thrown off the ship into parts unknown. It would sure be a bad situation all around. It would be sad for the travel companions too.

For me, two sips and I am very happy.

Unfortunately a lot of drunks will always act confrontationally when denied service. I believe that the bar tenders are worried that they will be named on the Customer Satisfaction Survey for cutting off people and they know that having anything negative written about you is one thing to be avoided at all costs. It is easier to keep serving them rather than risk the ire of a drunk denied service.

I think that would be part of the training of bartenders and servers to keep control. If that is a problem then they need to have a staff person available that can be contacted to deal with the problem. That takes the bartenders and servers out of direct fire.

It can be done, it is done every day in bars and restaurants around the world.

Here we have a law against serving alcohol to a person who is too much intoxicated. "Too much" is of course a vague term, but it's used frequently by the bar staff here.
