need_a_holiday Posted April 12, 2013 Author #76 Share Posted April 12, 2013 Once we saw those families leaving, we realized we needed to stop checking people out of our way in the hallways (hockey family here). We didn't want to suffer the same fate. ;) You are only allowed to body check other families when going for the last Winjammer Booth. Anything goes in that place. evelyn51 Posted April 12, 2013 #78 Share Posted April 12, 2013 I took care of my mom with dementia for seven years. She passed last May at 91. I have a bit of money left by her. We lived in Greece for a year in the 70s and she always wanted to go back.....I wish I could tell her we are going. Thank you Mom. I truly believe she knows, in fact you will feel her their with you when you go. I did the same thing in caring for my Mom. When she passed she also left money for my two brothers and myself. She had always wanted to go on a cruise. So one DB, SIL, DH, & I Went with her in our thoughts. It was our first cruise. We had a balcony. In the early hours of the morning, I had an overwhelming feeling, I was to get up open the drapes and look out. There before me, centered in the balcony door, was my first view of a Caribbean Island! Enjoy your cruise! God bless. . .
PattyG12 Posted April 12, 2013 #79 Share Posted April 12, 2013 Im considering the package for an upcoming cruise. I will probabley be drinking bottles of Heineken which at $4.75 + tip equates to 10 bottles per day. For me that would be easily achievable when on holiday, and I wouldnt see it as excessive drinking at all spread over a 12 hour period. Absolutely ... and it's convenient. Just take into account the days that you'll be off the ship all day in the ports. That's where the cost didn't make sense to me.
PattyG12 Posted April 12, 2013 #80 Share Posted April 12, 2013 DH and I ran into people drunk in the elevator by 11:00am on our Honeymoon cruise and this was before Royal Caribbean had the drink package. People are going to get drunk with or without the package, it doesn't matter. You are absolutely correct. I just noticed more younger people drinking heavily on the Freedom. Yes, it was spring break, but we always cruise around the same time and it was more than usual.

teajak Posted April 12, 2013 #85 Share Posted April 12, 2013 Yes, really. Two of us and two granddaughters. Airfare, hotels, excursions, and on and on. More like $20,000 when all is said and done. Eastern Mediterranean.Sorry, since we were discussing cruises I assumed you meant the price of the cruise.
Melozone Posted April 12, 2013 #86 Share Posted April 12, 2013 Sorry, since we were discussing cruises I assumed you meant the price of the cruise. The total, but if you are kicked off a cruise you have to take all that into it, at least I do. I would be thinking I just blew all this money and now I am off the cruise. I have to consider the total amount I just spent. Sorry if I was not clear :o

Wonder if they will still have the Speckled Hen, not my cup of tea, Ock water lo. I didnt know both had to get the package, that makes it a tad expensive, I suppose that is so you don't get drinks for others. Have to get the old calculator out to see if it will be worth it. fishtaco Posted April 13, 2013 #88 Share Posted April 13, 2013 I don't believe you can cancel any of the drinks packages part way through. So you doubt my word or just didnt read my post:confused: I cancelled a PI drinks package x2 on day 5 of a 14 night cruise on VOS,It was cancelled before midday on the 5th day and I was reimbursed 10 days PI package. It took a simple cabin to service desk call then a transfer to beverage manager who agreed to the cancellation and actually laughed saying you are the first out of 820 drinks packages sold this cruise to cancel! fishtaco Posted April 13, 2013 #89 Share Posted April 13, 2013 He didn't just break one of the rules, if he threw something overboard he broke maritime law. Wow. Just...wow. You cannot blame the drinker? Does the bartender stuff the drink down their throat? If not, I can blame the drinker. I drink when on a cruise and any cruise that offers an unlimited package, I choose it for the peace of mind it offers me. And I have always at least broken even. But I pace myself and I have never made a scene or been out of control.[/QUOT You seem to read only what you want to:confused: My reply was to why cant you bring on your own booze if RCI has unlimited drinks package which the answer to is to stop people getting over drunk! lol I have experience with the new PI package and can tell you they just keep serving! So there is no "responsible serving" as well as "responsible drinking"! so throws the BYO booze argument out of the window. But just go ahead and cheer away!:p:p:p

Do you seriously think that if RCI allowed passengers to bring on alcohol it would stop the drunken behaviour? LOL I saw the people boarding for a 2 night Radiance cruise- if they had been allowed to bring on booze I know it would have been just as bad. I have read posts about how to smuggle booze (lots) on board. There would be likely more drinking not less IMO.
fishtaco Posted April 13, 2013 #91 Share Posted April 13, 2013 You are joking, right? On another note, congrats on quitting smoking :) Im a quitter for almost 4 years now. I like your tracker. Obviously you have never drank RCIs "Italian Long Island Iced Teas" Well neither had we until they were suggested by RCI bartender just prior to dinner! One before dinner and one during dinner put my wife in almost a Coma! I had to help her back to the cabin after dinner one step forward two steps back the whole way! Dinner drinks waiter had brought her another of what she had got outside the dinning room because he knew we had the package! Perhaps she should have been kicked off for being a drunk:confused: The package allows users to get drinks they otherwise wouldnt drink because of cost and some of those drinks contain a lot more alcohol than the average drinker is used to. Its not the bar tenders fault but it also is not always the drinkers fault. The package should be limited to Beer Wine Well and fluffy drinks in my opinion. We wouldnt have cancelled the package if she had had her usual 2 vodka lime sodas. Den

Rare broberts Posted April 13, 2013 #93 Share Posted April 13, 2013 Just got off rhapsody on a South Pacific cruise. We heard third hand that on the third night a passenger had too many drinks, tossed a piece of equipment overboard (a bollard?), and went to bed. The next morning security knocked on his door, confiscated his sea pass and he was sent to a hotel in noumea for a flight home the following day. Day 3 of a 10 day cruise. Sometimes the all you can drink package is not such good value. Unlikely it was a bollard. Bollards are generally vertical posts on wharfs or ships used mostly to secure mooring lines. Wouldn't be surprised if it was a life ring. I've often wondered how many people succumb to temptation and throw one overboard.

I have had it and experienced it and the amount that get drunk on it! I didnt see one drunk and disorderly person in 14 nights, is this because the drinks package has some kind of "Magic" over BYO booze? This was the "only" cruise that we have "not" smuggled at least 2 litres of Vodka onboard and the "only" cruise we have both got seriously drunk on! Are you seriously suggesting that the all you can drink drinks package would stop drunken behaviour that the cruise line is claiming to dissuade by banning BYO booze LOL What a joke LOL Den

Additionally, it's called consumption for a reason. Meaning it's always the drinkers fault unless of course the server is holding you down and pouring it down your throat otherwise you and only you are consuming the alcohol. Sorry but I had almost a whole career of drunks telling me it wasn't their fault usually it was after they killed or almost killed someone else. You were complaining that the RCI policy of not allowing booze to be taken on the ship (with the resulting increase? in drinks packages) is a factor in people drinking more than they should as they try to get their money's worth. My comment is that taking spirits (in particular) on board would not IMO lead to a reduction in drunken loutish behaviour. Just because you only got drunk on the cruise where you had a package does not make it a general truth necessarily. Bully for you that you "smuggle" your booze on board and think you beat the system. Wine has been allowed on many lines but never spirits. Saving a few bucks or going for brag rights??
pwhitty Posted April 13, 2013 #97 Share Posted April 13, 2013 Thence the theme to "Drink Responsibly". There are too many unknows to this story. I can relate to this from both sides (personal experiences). Nevertheless, when somone drinks, that someone is responsible for their actions - even on holiday/vacation. fairymum Posted April 13, 2013 #99 Share Posted April 13, 2013 I will buy the drinks package on my next cruise(I did check you can get sodas and non alcoholic cocktails as well) but its not cos I'm a drunk or want to get drunk but because I don't want to think about every drink I have adding up and getting a huge bill at the end. pspercy Posted April 13, 2013 #100 Share Posted April 13, 2013 RCCL should really offer non-alcoholic options with the drink package like Celebrity Cruises. Maybe if someone could get bottles of water, cappuccinos, special teas, etc. it may cut down on passengers just drinking alcohol. Big thumbs up:D
