Bakincakes Posted April 15, 2013 #126 Share Posted April 15, 2013 Having a drink package will only encourage pax to drink more to get their monies worth. They will act no differently than some do in the WJ where they load up their plates like they won't see food for the rest of their cruise. Or like the pax that just must consume as many lobster tails as the wait staff will bring them. It encourages pax to be piggish and many are ready and willing to jump on that band wagon because they "paid for it". Rare brillohead Posted April 15, 2013 #127 Share Posted April 15, 2013 We are now up to two ejections, one person at Noumea for discardus deiectus (object overboard) and two families at Cozumel, the Capulets and the Montagues. Did anyone go on a cruise recently and not get thrown off a ship? Sorry, three ejections. FWIW, these were on three different ships, three different cruises. And the families ejected at Cozumel weren't fighting each other. They were part of a larger group of families who were taking their 18yo sons on a cruise to celebrate their senior (last) year of high school. The families (not the ship) were providing booze to the underage boys, and the drunk boys proceeded to get into a fight with some drunk former military men. The boys (one of whom sported a broken nose when all was said and done), their families, and the men they were fighting were all put off the ship in Cozumel. Sadly, the other families that were traveling with them didn't learn anything from this sequence of events -- the boys were seen with their parents in port later, drinking beer.

Correction to your WJ theory. They obviously do the same thing at home when they have to pay for their food. Obesity and alcoholism are both addiction based and pay as you go or all you can have doesn't change their behavior.
mommabean Posted April 15, 2013 #129 Share Posted April 15, 2013 I don't know if I can post the link but you got quoted on Cruise Law News :http://www.cruiselawnews.com/2013/04/articles/cruise-booze/cruise-booze-is-a-passengers-drinking-problem-just-his-own/ It just shows you that writer is picking and choosing what he wants to say, I know for a fact that the bartenders on Rhapsody of the Seas ARE stopping service when they see over drinking and bad behavior. I know several bartenders on this ship from years back. The comment the writer makes about the bartenders working for tips doesn't hold true for 2 reasons on this ship. It is in Australia and Aussies do NOT tip for drinks like Americans do. There were 36 Americans on our cruise. And the all inclusive drink package does not increase the tips for drinkers on a per drink basis. The 15% is already figured into the total cost of the package. Someone could drink 1 drink or 20 drinks a day and the tip is the same. I specifically asked multiple bartenders about cutting off drinks as I said. They do. I also asked those in higher places about what happens when someone is cut off for the remainder of the cruise. NO refunds. Apparently that is in writing when the package is purchased. I admit to not buying a package so I've not seen the "contract" stating the policy. The article appears slanted to me as much news info is. People getting kicked off cruise ships for violating the guest conduct policy is nothing new. It was happening long before the alcohol packages were offered. What would be interesting to know would be the facts. Has mid cruise disembarkation increased at all since the alcohol package sales began? That we don't know. Indy_Cindy Posted April 17, 2013 #133 Share Posted April 17, 2013 I agree. I did see the woman break her ankle during the Quest Game Show, I saw the couple who won bingo when the grand prize was a relocation to an Owners Suite, they were on deck 2 and had never heard of a concierge club. They got shifted straight away, I think that was day 3. I did have a message on my cabin phone that was left to the previous occupants thanking them for saving the life of another passenger on a shore excursion. It was at Suva around the 27th of last month. I did not however see the guy get thrown off the ship. :D How about a new thread detailing first hand reports of interest? Tell me more! jnojr Posted April 17, 2013 #134 Share Posted April 17, 2013 there is a difference between happily merry (we are on holiday after all) and lout behaviour. I have no desire or my children to see people hammered and shouting and throwing things off a ship. I also do not pay my hard paid money to see pools of vomit or hear drunken arguments. I am all for people being thrown off who cannot abide by simple rules. They are in place for the safety and enjoyment of all on board. A ship is place for someone totally drunk. They can endanger themselves and others, not to mention cause misery for all around. Control please! a-freaking-men!
