vmbaskets Posted April 14, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 14, 2013 Are there any beaches within walking distance of the cruise dock?
bhopal21 Posted April 15, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 15, 2013 First I would like to tell you that the keys are not known for their beaches as all are man-made with hauled in sand and can be quite rocky. With that being said I would suggest Fort Zachary Taylor which is about a 20min walk from where you will be deposited post cruise. It is an easy walk up Whitehead St to Southard turn right and that will carry you to Fort Zach. Mike:)
Rare Keith1010 Posted April 15, 2013 #3 Share Posted April 15, 2013 Within just a couple of minute walk from the pier is a beach. Keith

Mike:) I agree. I'd tell most people not to bother with beaches at KW and enjoy the history and sights there instead, especially if their other cruise stops have better beaches. Which is likely. Duddy Posted May 28, 2013 #5 Share Posted May 28, 2013 We were just in KW for a few days last week. Not a cruise ship stop, just a vacation. We walked to Zachary Taylor and went to the beach. Admission was only $2.50 each as a walker. I think it was $5 per car or $5 per person per car, I can't remember. The beach was nice and the snack bar was great. However, as Mike stated, KW is surprisingly not known for the beaches and they are rockey. Clean water but you just can run out there and dive in. Not sure about the other beaches. ZT is a bit of a walk so the $10 cab going back to our cottage was well worth it. We decided to do other things including the Fury island jet ski tour. Wonderful tour guides. Clear and warm water. Worth every penny! ~Bob~

My Grandson was born in Key West and I've spent lots of time thee. It's not a beachy location...but it's like no where else!!!
Rare Hlitner Posted June 23, 2013 #7 Share Posted June 23, 2013 We love Key West and we love beaches. But when in Key West we do not waste our time at those places they call beaches (NOT). Hank

cruise_crazy68 Posted September 17, 2013 #12 Share Posted September 17, 2013 What about the beach by Southern Most Point I think it is called South Beach? Anyone been there recently?
threeofus Posted September 17, 2013 #13 Share Posted September 17, 2013 The South Beach is a small but clean and pretty beach. You can rent chairs and umbrellas and there is a cafe with food and a full bar.
