I miss the RCCL rounded stern. To me the ship just does not look that great.

I think it looks OK. At least it doesn't have a flat stern. I just really miss the signature viking crown lounge shape that makes an RCI ship stand out in a crowd.

Where is Royal Caribbean connection to the sea?

I don't understand. There are plenty of areas you can see the sea from. The Two70 lounge has brilliant views of the ocean, and as usual you have all the open deck space up top. If you are referring to the lifeboats being on the same level as the promenade deck blocking a view, that is unavoidable. It is now a requirement that the lifeboats are like that. You can't have the boats embedded in the ship anymore like they used to be.

Please refer to the NCL Breakaway design.

Everything is possible if you have a will.

Carnival has this with their Dream class also. So like you said it is still possible to have a promenade without the lifeboats being embedded in the ship.

You are absolutely right.

I had the Dream class in mind but did not mentioned it because their U-shape promenade has a kind of sun deck load as well.

pole seems really useless...i wonder how many people it can fit at one time (side note - would be a cool place to get married though)

other "innovations" - not really interested...

water slides - out door jungle gym, etc...would be better...

13 people plus 1 crew member, so a total of 14

It would be nice to know where the dining room really is. If Two70 is in that windowed area of decks 5 and 6 aft, where in the exterior picture of the model are the windows for the dining room? Usually they are very obvious from the outside. I'm just not seeing it.

Gina

Those large glass windows are actually where the loft suites on this ship will be! (The one's above Two70.) And Also the top two levels above the large glass will be the concierge lounge.

I did go on Celebrity Infinity and wondered how they could ruin a perfect hull. I hated the layout. There was no tall centrum. You can't walk to the helecopter pad. The weird little curtained compartments in the solarium. The list went on for me. I just didn't like it at all even though I knew it was a very similar ship - on the outside. And I haven't been back to Celebrity.

Gina

That's fine. I went on Radiance and was disappointed at the differences compared to Celebrity Millenium. Space restrictions in public spaces e.g. the library is this tiny nook beside the corridor!, a lack of light in Radiance's centrum even though bigger. It all felt very cramped.

Similar size, but very different effect. I loved Millennium, but Radiance was a disappointment.

Great ship builders. They built the Solstice Class for Celebrity, great ships and easy to navigate, so some similarities will be there. One of the best features I saw was the 16 elevators. I wont mind not having the royal promenade, they will put something new and exciting in there. The multi use space is a great idea and they will be able to offer and adjust different activities much easier now I think. The music hall is a great concept. I can see them having great concerts and activities for everyone there.

I agree that the ship looks great but it doesn't look like Royal Caribbean, if you know what I mean.

I can't put my finger on it, but from what I have seen today the ship looks TOO busy. I just think maybe Royal is trying too hard to one up Oasis that they didn't put too much thought into the "main attractions" onboard.

This is the first time I believe that Celebrity and Royal have shared a platform, this ship screams Solstice class design, and that's abundantly clear from the deck plans. Perhaps this will be a new trend for Royal?

To me Celebrity ships have a better use of space. Open space like a big centrium, is amazing to look at but its space not utilized. I like the dazzling look and wow factor of many of the RCCL ships but also the simple elegance the Celebrity fleet has is great also. I like both lines, but they are different experiences overall.

Actually many newbuilds resemble the Solstice Class because it's simply that good and efficient of a design. The newest Disney ships, the new Royal Princess, and NCL's Breakaway Class. They all look somewhat similar to CELEBRITY SOLSTICE. This ship really set in motion a new look for ships, and it's no wonder Royal Caribbean took the best of the Solstice Class and modified it to fit their needs. No doubt they spent a lot of $$ on the initial design and a few cruise lines have already copied it. Personally I feel QUANTUM is a completely different platform based on the technical specs, but there is no denying the similarities in appearance. The same could be said of the new Royal Princess and Norwegian Breakaway.

I think this ship was designed for year round Cruising from New York and is different to the ships designed for Florida. Given the cold weather of winter cruising it has a lot of indoor activities and an improvement in bars, theatres and most likely the casino. There seems to be a great space available between decks 2, 3 and 4 in the middle of the ship. I wouldn't write it off until it is done. Is the spa and gym larger than other ships? Seems to spread over three decks.

Not sure about the pod on a boom. Seems to me that it is just one more thing that can break. I also wonder how clean the exterior can be kept during regular operations.

I wonder how often the North Star will be closed due to high winds or rough seas?

It looks like the spa is only 2 decks like on the other ships.

Well I just watched the video and I cannot wait until I am able to booked it, I thought it had some nice innovations, with something for everyone. I have only been on 5 cruises so far but am amazed how critical people get after cruising for a long time. Why does every ship have to have the basic amenities. Why would you want to go on different ships that are basically the same layout. So it does not have a promenade, big deal go on another that does. My favorite ship is still my first being the Radiance of the Seas, but I still appreciate other ship features.

The Quantum has a passenger capacity of 4,180....for efficiency they are putting more people in less space.....thus the lack of "open areas" (wasted space)

I remember this being said months ago....that they were going to make use of the unused open space on other ships and this class will be more efficient.....

It's not always I agree with Cruisetrails opinions, but this time I think he's onto something.

The Quantum of the Seas will for sure be great ships and deliver a great cruise experience. No question about that! But as interested in marine architecture and as a architect myself then I'm a little underwhelmed. Oasis class was a great leap in cruise ship design, but the Quantum ship design is more of a development of the Solstice class (which I've cruised and just loved).

In the leaked GA plans RCI themselves are aware of the limitations of using an existing platform, quote "We cannot focus on what we lose or don't have with this platform, but what we can achieve". The heavy focus on the gimmicks I think also reflects this.

After looking on the deck plans I'll see a similar sized atrium as on the Solstice class connected with a double height side shopping arcade with light from above by side windows along the outside promenade in the same way as Solstice. Many more similarities can be found all over the ship.

...but of course one has to see this all from a distance and then I can agree with Believer33323 that in the end it's fun with a "new" design and specially new features never seen on a ship before. I think personally the front solarium and the Two70 will be my favorite areas onboard.

Main restaurant will be on deck 3-4 and not feature any large windows.

Empty space on the decks above 5 will be used for technical equipment and will not for a Royal Promenade.

Very happy that the WJ will have an open terrace at the back.

I agree, I wouldn't want to be the one in the pod when it gets stuck.

I think RCCL has lost there mines or spent to much time at the North Star on this ship ! And there went cruising as we know it. I,m glad I,m no longer a stock holder to RCCL. What were they thinking on this one Stupid !
