NCL..since you apparantly read these boards...

Recommended Posts

This thread keeps going and going and going :)

Why is anyone upset is beyond me. If NCL was so proud of its "new and improved" menu, then why show photos of the very old menu. The photos are of many years Cagneys past but they WERE an accurate reflection of what you could get at Cagneys.

The OP brings up a good point. It is trivial in the totality of a cruise though.

The people that defend this by saying "many restaurants show food or items that you cant get at their restaurant" so that makes it ok.

First, the restaurant must be horrible if they show food that is not theirs LOL But some people here defend those actions. Good grief. Who would be happy to be lured into a restaurant by photos of food only to discover the food could not be ordered. Or check into a hotel that shows a large bed but when you check in, it is a small bed.

Just to point out the obvious should not get anyone upset.

But....this dish is still on the menu and still available. That's why we all think it's silly. If they showed a picture of prime rib then we'd all agree. Ok, maybe not ALL and maybe not AGREE because it rarely happens, but it would not be this thread. You can still get 6 shrimp in Cagneys, you just have to ask for six.

Never and they make me pay for it before I get it. I guess some would call that false advertising as well!!!!

You always have to pay before they give you the bag with that "wonderful" hidden surprise.

The picture (from June 2011) of my shrimp from Cagney's that I posted a couple of pages back, also shows that they did not have 6 shrimp at Cagney's even before the new menu, nor did they in 2007, I just can't find that particular picture. As far as I know there have always only been 3 shrimp at least between 2007 and now.

I mean how many people count things in pictures and if they don't get exactly the same amount claim false advertising. Do you count the french fries in a picture of a burger and fries, or tomatoes in a salad picture?

Now if they said 6 shrimp on the menu, and only brought you 3 that would be problem , but they don't so no problem.

OMG and no one noticed until they wanted to complain about the new menu. Unbelievable.

It is obvious that you understand the point! Let the others here laugh and joke all they want, but the picture is misleading anyway you want to twist it.

btw, just off the Gem this morning and the MDR was fabulous and I do wish I had eaten there all 7 nights instead of just 3.

Teppanyaki was wonderful

Moderno was not as good as expected as I felt the meat was not tenderized well nor did I feel they were great tasting cuts.

Le Bistro was excellent.

as far as Cagneys was concerned, they had plenty of available seatings and never ever crowded.

Many pax agreed that the MDR was great. This was not my experience on the Jewel 2 years ago however.

The ports were perfect as was the weather and lo and behold...very few smokers in the outdoor smoking areas!!! Maybe they had balconies. The Casino was smoky and the Cigar Bar was used often it appeared

Plenty of chairs up 1 deck from the pool and believe it or not the pools were not so crowded and the pax makeup was not so bad.

Of course this was a June 1 to 8th cruise and I know for a fact that in about 2 cruises from now that will all be different.

Maybe all the cabins were booked on my cruise but it was obvious that not all the beds were being used.

About 100 kids on the ship.

The entertainment was excellent and Sinan was great. Of course he is leaving in a week or 2 he told me. Normally, I pay no attention to the CD but Sinan was worth it.

Also, they have a fabulous Gem performer...Colin Cahill..as part of the dance troupe and he is a featured vocalist. Look for him on Broadway in the next few years! Talented is not the word.

I rarely talk to cruise staff but Sinan and Colin were an exception and I wish them both well and I do hope a Broadway scout or 2 takes this cruise someday and "discovers" Colin...but he did say he was working on getting to Broadway so good luck to him.

The Man from Mars was great as was the comedian Jeff Harms.

Leo the guitar guy and the lead singer from the Reggae band were fun to listen to and very talented as were the band "Kenosis"

The cruise was smooth sailing and very well run. Bring your snorkels if you go to the beach at the Atlantis as the fish were good. Didn't use a locker at the ATlantis but didn't bring phone or PP either. We just left our beach bag next to the chairs by the waterslides just like everyone else. The Gem gets you there early so no problem with finding seats. The Aquarium was very nice and lots of fun to walk through. The place is huge and glad we had door to door service thru the ship because I feel it is a huge waste of time to book the room thing at the Comfort Inn etc.

Time is money when on a port call and it was $119 well spent to go thru the efficient ship excursion. I feel this way about the $164 Disney ship excursion as well. Both extremely well run.

we gave the steward a small extra tip and he seemed very surprised.

walk off was simple and an FYI for those being picked up at the ship..just tell your pickup person to meet you on the northbound side of 12th avenue and 48th street

Maybe the term "false advertising" is just a little bit harsh. I sincerely doubt the powers that be over at NCL sat around the boardroom desk and maliciously agreed "lets show the old picture with the new menu. Nobody'll notice and we'll save a lot of money! muhahhah" It was overlooked for a time is all. Mistakes are unfortunate, but they do happen, this was simply an unfortunate mistake.

they were counting on it being overlooked all this time. Of course they don't want to change the pix because 6 shrimp looks quite appetizing...and nobody notices, do they?

Just call it what it is...a pix of a double order of shrimp cocktail. But by not saying it what they are in essence saying is.."wow, look at that great shrimp cocktail, maybe it is worth the $30 cover charge" Of course when you get the 3 shrimp, you forget about the pix and don't realize that you can order a double order....but you were enticed to prebook and prepay Cagneys. correct? They accomplished their mission.

Just say it is a double order..that's all.

And if you don't think they sit around deciding what pix to use, then I guess you have never done a focus group, have you?

I was paid $200 for an hour of my time...and the topic was..."should we use this wrapper or that wrapper for our package of 100 paper plates!

and btw, the wrappers looked exactly the same and the only minor difference was where they placed there company name. Now go figure..10 people at $200 each!

Yes NCL....thanks for reading this. This is a great example of why you should NOT have menus for your restaurants posted online....

Simply give people the menu when you seat them at their table so they can decide what to order....just like each and every other restaurant in the world.

Every other restaurant in the world? That's funny. I read menus online in advance of basically every restaurant I visit. Not sure why anyone would think posting them online is unique to cruise ships.

That Whopper picture cracks me up! This whole old thread cracks me up. GIMME MY SHRIMP!! I want 9. :p

I just read this entire thread whilst waiting for kid.

One thing is clear( besides the OP's crustacean fixation)

She cannot seem to write a sentence without using PIX or PAX.

For some reason her overuse of the cute-isms PIx and Pax have made my fillings hurt.

Ugh!

I dont think the quality of cagney's has diminished

I actually had one of the best meals i have ever had at cagneys on my last gem sailing

I will admit i was skeptical because the last two times there just werent that great but this one was fantastic

BTW have you ever seen and ad or commercial for a restaurant

The food never looks like the picture

But i agree. Dont show 6 shrimp if you are only serving 3
