Curves?

Has anyone tried Curves? My mom and I are going this afternoon and try them out but I'm a little skeptical about it working. Can you get results in just working out for the 30 minutes each session 3 days a week? Or would we need to incorporate more exercise in somewhere else too? Thanks. Hi, I have been going for 4 wks now. I wasnt sure at first if it would be enough, but I now know you put as much effort as you want into the workout, and you can really work up a sweat. After 3 wk. I was jogging at the stations, not walking etc. I am happy with Curves thus far. I have lost 13 lbs. in 1 month but I am also doing a mod. Adkins. Give them a try for 1 month Good luck, Liz

I have been going to Curves for about 9 months now and I love it. At first I was going 3-5 times a week. Now I basically go 3-4 times per week and try to walk 1 or 2 miles the other days of the week. I have not lost a lot of weight (according to the scales) but I am now 2 pants sizes (and hopefully down the third size soon). I have lost quit a few inches. I have never been athletic so I am contributing the lack of weight loss but the benefit of inch loss to "building muscles" and we all know "muscle weighs more than fat". I have basically been doing "modified Atkins" too. Although I say modified because I have more than my daily allotment of carbs before I even make from the bed to the shower (air and water have carbs! LOL). Anyway, I love my Curves. We have a really fun group of ladies....most of which I had never met before and do not know their names to this day....but we have a good time. It really helps relieve stress too!

Thanks for the replies guys. We tried them for the first time on Tuesday and then again on Wednesday and plan on going again on Friday. So far I am really liking it. About how long does it take to start seeing results? We have a short cruise coming up at the end of May and then a week long cruise in June so I hope if I work out every week until then I will be able to at least see some results by then. It's nice to spend time with my mother too.

i am a curves fanatic and a curves employee... talk about a great job!
yes! you will see results the first month IF you are working out at least 3x a week and working as hard and fast on the machines as you can! make sure you are staying in your target heart rate range (60-70%)
skiiergirl... yes, that is definitely a result of building muscle. the great thing is that you will eventually see the pounds come off when you have enough lean muscle to really start burning the fat.
be proud of yourself every time you walk through that door! those ladies will become your greatest allies!!

Got measured & weighed at Curves yesterday. Happy to report, after 2 months I am down 22 lbs. and lost 7 1/2 inches. My body fat was down 2.50 percent this month. I started Curves on Feb. 17th and started a new WOE on Feb. 2nd.

I really enjoy going to Curves and believe me, I am not one that likes exercising!! Between Curves & my new WOE, I am motivated! I have to plan for my future cruise that's not even booked!!

Good luck.

I absolutely love Curves and I go three times a week for, six months now; but I'm not having the wonderful results the rest of you are having. I have not seen the weight loss at all. I drink a lot of water and I'm watching what I eat; what else can I do? When I don't get to Curves, I take my dogs for a walk or walk on my treadmill. Any suggestions?

Anita - What kind of plan are you on? I'm not on any formal kind of plan but what I do seems to be working for me and DH. I keep a journal of everything I eat and count the calories, fat grams etc. I use fitday.com for my journal. It keeps me honest on what I put in my mouth and I'm able to analyze what areas I need improvements.

Builderman:
I'm not on Atkins or SB; I just try to limit what I eat. I drink Slim Fast for breakfast; a salad for lunch, and a moderate dinner, and lots and lots of water.
What seems to be working for you, besides going to Curves?

Anita - I don't go to Curves, just excercise at home. My diet plan is just not eating potatoes, rice, refined sugars, pasta only 2 times a month, and no white bread (whole grain though). I read labels and try to stay away from high fat and high carbs (especially sugar carbs). I eat a bowl of cereal for breakfast (bran flakes or raisin bran or oatmeal), lunch I'll have a sandwich with one piece of whole grain bread (no butter) and maybe a salad with non-fat dressing or a Dannon Carb Control yogurt or low fat cottage cheese. Dinner I have 2 sides of veggies or veggie & salad and whatever entree we're having.

And lots and lots of water!

That's it in a nutshell.

Anita,

Maybe you should try some strength training. I know that when I started working with free weights the pounds just fell off of me and my clothing sizes really dropped. This was after two months of working out at a regular gym. I could not believe the results. I was not even able to eat as much as I needed to maintain the weight so I had to cut back on the free weights for a while. Why not give it a try along with doing curves?

Are you doing any kind of structured weight plan or doing it on your own? I did Weight Watchers but the "at home program' and lost 85 pounds. When I started free weights I dropped another 12 pounds. Good luck.

 • 2 weeks later...
I just joined curves on 5/13. Wow was that a workout! I'll be there again today after work.

I have a buddy and we plan on going 4 times per week. Both of us are going on the cruise together. It's a real great motivator to know that someone else has the EXACT same goal as you (get those dress sizes down before the cruise).

Hi guys. Just a little update....

We (my mom & I) have been going to Curves now for a little over a month and I've lost 8 total body inches (arms, bust, waist, abs, hips and thighs ). I really didn't want to lose any in the bust but oh well. I am very pleased with the workout I get at Curves right now. I may need something different later but for now it's working!!!! I hope you guys are doing well too.

I have lost 11 lbs. after 1-1/2 months on Curves. I go 3 or 4 times a week and I love it. I get measured later this week so I'll report back with the inches...

Hi Everyone,

I love Curves. I joined last July. Lost about 20lbs. then I stopped going for a while. Started back up in Jan. and have been going regulary since. I average 4 days a week, but last few weeks I've been averaging 5 - 6 days.

My problem is I love to eat. Not really watching the carbs like I would like too but I am cutting back.

We have a great group of women that comes in the mornings with me. I do know all their names as we have really developed a bond. We look for each other and call/send emails when we miss too many days without notice. We make sure when we go on vacation to remind each other to weigh in to compare at the end of our vacations. Our Curves trainers really make it fun by creating "Curves Steps" which are 30 second routines to work various part of the body while on the rest boards. Makes the workouts fun and you get a good workout of various body parts at one time. We also play games etc. Anything to make the 30 minutes go by faster. Sometimes we talk to much that 30 minutes flies by.

My only complaint about my Curves is that it does not open until 8:00 am during the week. Wish they would open up earlier for those of us that like to workout before work.
