Hey Fellow Cruisers,

My name is Jen and I leave in one month. I want to lose 10 more pounds and am in serious need of some moral support. I am giving up soda for the next 30 days and am gonna work out every day as well as no fast food. I am currently 5'2 125 and want to weigh 115 on departure day 5/14. No pop or fast food is gonna kill me. I am already working 60+ hrs a week to save money for this cruise. Any one got any quick weight loss tips as well as any good advice. IS this possible??? Thanks in advance....

Hi jennraycruise, Our cruise starts the day before yours and I too want to loose 10 more pounds. I have been averaging about 8 pounds per month since January 1st by exercising everyday for at least 30 minutes, drinking lost of water and heaven forbid if I went to a Fast Food place. Eat well balanced meals with lots of veggies and try to eat smaller portions.

Exercise, exercise, exercise! Drink lots of water, watch your carb intake (eat good carbs like whole wheat products). Eat until you fill satisfied, but not stuffed. Good luck!

In addition to giving up soda and fast foods, I have also stopped potatoes, rice, refined sugar, white bread (whole wheat or whole grain only) and limit pasta to very small portions no more that 2 times a month. I eat at least 2 different portions of veggies for dinner along with a sensible entre and I watch the fat content of other foods I eat. I've lost 12 lbs since Feb. 16 which is making this diet the most successful I have ever done. I don't feel deprived at all as there are lots of choices out there.

Also, exercise everyday and drink at least 64oz of water. These are a must do for any plan! IMHO

I think you can come darn close to your goal before your cruise if you are committed.

This is a wonderful place to find great support too! Good luck!

Down to 120 at 5'2' bet you look great.

You lost 5 lbs in 5 days? Cutting out the fast food sure does help. I hope your eatting healthy. Remember if you only get a few more lbs off or stay at this weight, you'll look great and have a great cruise! Bon Voyage!

  • 1 year later...

OK, I'm pretty realistic about it, so I hope I can make it! I'm so glad I found this thread! :-)

This was a last minute trip. My SIL called to say that her parents and husband and she will be going on a cruise to Alaska on the Celebrity Infinity and asked if we wanted to go (DH and I) since it was a great deal, so we agreed. I've been on WW since 9/03 and have lost 27 lbs. but haven't lost anything since October 2004... I see the pattern. That's when I went back to work! Anyway, I want to accomplish two things between now and when I return from my cruise.

1. I want to lose 5 lbs., so I don't have to feel so restricted about eating while on the cruise (it's 12 nights!), and here is my action plan:

- attend WW meeting every week

- drink 48 ozs. of water M-F

- eat breakfast and have two fruits a day for a snack M-F

- walk at least 30 minutes 3 times a week

- eat w/i my WW points except on Mother's Day

- incorporate strength training once a week

- aim for 100 sit ups w/o stopping - I can do 100 but need to stop a couple of times.

2. I want to not gain more than 2 lbs. when I weigh in when I return. The last time I went on a cruise, I ate the beef dinner every night (prime rib, steak, etc.) and gain 7 lbs that didn't come off for a very LONG time!

- use the treadmill 3 days a week for at least 45 minutes each time

- use weight machines twice a week

- before going on the cruise, I'm going to investigate ideas on how to handle resisting the food!

I'm usually better at meeting my goals when I write them down somewhere... feel like I have to be accountable.

Hi Jennray --

As long as you eat healthy and don't starve yourself -- losing 10lbs is VERY possible. (Beware - If you "starve" yourself to lose the weight, you will lose stamina & energy, and that's not how you want to start a cruise! ) That said, the closer you are to your goal, the harder it will be to get those last few lbs GONE. So whatever you end up losing between now & then will be great!

And to boltnut55 --

Looks like you've got some well thought out, realistic goals there, with a sensible approach to attaining them. Way to go! It will probably jump start you to continue losing after yiu get back, too!

I just came back from a cruise where I actually lost 1 lb! I only made it to the gym once, but I walked ALL the time, every day - all over the ship, on the beaches (a great workout - walking in the sand, or wading in 6-12 inches of water), & shopping. I took the stairs on the ship almost all the time - UP and DOWN! I always had a cup of ice water in my hand on the ship, & bought bottled water in port. I had no more than 2-3 alcholic drinks per day (I probably could have lost more if I had drunk less!). During the day, I stuck to mostly sandwiches, salads & fruit. For dinner, I stayed away from red meat & heavy sauces, but other than that, ate pretty much what I liked, including desserts -- & I made sure to have all my salad & veggies each night.

Basically I'm living proof that there's no need to eat platefuls of everything in sight when you're cruising - but feel free to taste everything at least once!

Good luck to you both! Keep us updated on your progress!

  • 3 weeks later...

I posted the following goals and just wanted to update w/results so far (if you can call it that!)

1. I want to lose 5 lbs., so I don't have to feel so restricted about eating while on the cruise (it's 12 nights!), and here is my action plan:

- attend WW meeting every week - didn't go; will attempt to go tomorrow

- drink 48 ozs. of water M-F - haven't done this

- eat breakfast and have two fruits a day for a snack M-F - did this the first week only

- walk at least 30 minutes 3 times a week - did this the first week

- eat w/i my WW points except on Mother's Day - did this pretty well

- incorporate strength training once a week - did this for one week only

- aim for 100 sit ups w/o stopping - I can do 100 but need to stop a couple of times. - didn't do this at all

Comments: I ended up losing 2 lbs. on my home scale but doubt it will show tomorrow when I go to WW. Starting tomorrow (Sunday), I'm going to do all the items mentioned above. I'm going to weigh in at WW the morning before I leave for the cruise. Good luck to everyone else!

Two pounds is great! Especially if you say you haven't stuck to all your goals! I hope you don't compare your weight on the WW scale to the weight on your home scale?

Just don't forget to take one day at a time with your goals & weight loss plan. You've got a lot of great things you are trying to incorporate all at once. It can feel very depressing if you don;t do all of them all the time. Maybe if you tried to break it up into smaller, more managable bits? The fact that you did most of it during the first weeek shows you CAN do it!:D
