Conquest Review - 6/12 - 6/19

Conquest

We drove from Oklahoma to New Orleans in about 12 hours. It really wasn’t that bad of a drive. We went right to our hotel, Maison St. Charles. It wasn’t all that special but it was nice. Clean rooms and clean courtyard. We ate at the Cheesecake place right down the street and it was very good.

Todd Wittmer, the cruise director and his assistants, Sarah, Kevin and Malcolm were wonderful. They were all over the place. Todd is a great director. I got to meet Phat Kat, one of the comedians. He was really nice too. Cannot remember our stewards name. We saw him two times the entire week. The first time was on Tuesday but he did a great job. He did unlock our mini bar and emptied it for us.

Sunday – June 12th

The limo picked us up at the hotel about 12:00 and took us straight to the pier. The second we got out of the car, we were walked into the door into long snake lines. It didn’t take long at all. The lines moved pretty quickly. Once you check in and get your sail-n-sign card, you are off to the yellow chairs. We sat there for about 15 minutes and then moved to another room filled with more yellow chairs. These chairs were right before you take your picture before you get on the ship. The second you walk onto the ship, you take your sail-n-sign picture. That didn’t take long at all. We were finally on board.

The drill was pretty slow and boring but I guess you have to do it. Once that was over, we put the life jackets up and went up to deck 7. This is where the parents and grandparents had rooms. They were right next to each other and so they open their balcony doors to make it bigger. The grandparents had a corner room so it was really big. The entire family hung out on the balcony to sail away. Everyone left to go to their own rooms and get ready for dinner. We ate at 8:00 in the lower level of Monet Dining room. We were in the back by the window and it was pretty awesome. Our head waitress was Zuzanna. We had two tables between the 14 of us so the other table had a different head waiter. His name was Michael. They were both awesome. We had great service.

Monday – June 13th

We got up on our own time since this was a sea day. We ate at the buffet. That was just fine with us. The food was pretty good. We were at the pool the entire day. We ate pizza and ice cream a lot. They were both great. We went back to our room to get ready for the first formal night about 5:00. We had the lobster but it wasn’t anything to write home about. The appetizers and desserts were always good. We hung out at the casino a lot if we weren’t at a show. My husband and I were kinda using this as our honeymoon because we didn’t take one. Then his sister and husband had been married on the 12th. So at this dinner, they brought both of us a small dessert with a candle and sang to us. We had to kiss the entire song. It was fun.

Tuesday – June 14th

This was another sea day and not much going on. We pretty much did the same thing as Monday.

Wednesday – June 15th

This was Jamaica. We went to Sunset Beach and we are so glad we did. All 14 of us had a great time. We got our moneys worth. This day never got really hot. It was kinda over cast but it never rained. I took a nap on the chair by the pool. That’s how comfortable it way. Everyone was really nice and the food wasn’t that bad. We were surprise to how good it was. We headed back to the ship around 3:00 and did some shopping in the little mall at the port. It was really crowded and not much stuff. We got back on the ship about 4:00 with no line. It was very easy to get off and on the ship.

Thursday – June 16th

This was Grand Cayman day. They tell you that you have to have a tender number before 10:00 am but we went to get our number and they told us we didn’t need one any more because they were so ahead of schedule. This was about 8:15. Great job! We got right to the island and it was really hot already. My husband and I walked around the block and decided it was too hot so we went back to catch a cab to the beach. We went to the 7 mile beach. We went to Sea Grape Beach. It was nice and not to crowded. We rented some snorkel equipment and stayed for about 2-3 hours. It was really fun. We then went back to the shopping area and at lunch at Hard Rock Café. It was really crowded but some of our group was there so we sat with them. We did some shopping and went back to the boat about 30 minutes before the last tender. It was so easy getting off and on the ship. Dinner was another formal night. I finally got my DH to take some pictures with the cruise people. They turned out really good too.

Friday – June 17th

This was Cozumel day. We went to Corona Beach. It is a really rocky beach but it was good for snorkeling. There was a storm coming in so we decided to head back to the shopping area. Thank goodness we did because it came with it for about 15 minutes. Then it was gone and it was a pretty day again. We did major shopping here and it was fun. We went back to the ship and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon.

Food

All together, the food was good. I never complained about the food. The bread was great. The appetizers and desserts were great. The pizza and the ice cream was wonderful. We ate a ton of that stuff. Zuzanna was one tables waitress and Michael was the other tables waiter. If you heard people yelling “Boomer Sooner”, those were our tables.

Entertainment

We went to a blues show which the guy could sing. He was awesome. We went to all the adult (late show) comedy shows. They were pretty good too.

Casino

We were here a lot. If you are at the craps table you need to make sure you have experienced dealers. There was one time a dealer was moved because he wasn’t doing things right and people weren’t getting paid (not good). Frank was great. He should be on the table a lot of the time.

Pool

This is probably the only thing we were disappointed with. They were tiny tiny tiny, way too many people to have such small pools. And yes, there were plenty of chair hogs. When we had chairs saved it was because they got up and was coming right back. Not the king to leave for hours.

Angela and Sutomo were always there to serve us. They were awesome. They didn’t even need our card by the second day. If you find one of them, stick with them. They were always at the pool and at shows.

I can't wait to go on another one. I would do it all over again! :D

Hi CS, thanks for the review. We sail the Conquest in Sept, I'm counting the days. I have a question about the limo. You said you were in a group of 14. what size limo did you get? And did the luggage for eveyone fit. We are a group of 10 and have considered a limo but I am concerned about the luggage situation. Any suggestions you have would be appreciated. Thanks bunches.:)

Thanks for the review! I have a ways to go still.

I have one question - Was Sunset Beach Resort still $20.00pp and was the water park open yet? I've read that they were building a water park at the resort to be opened spring 2005.

I'm glad you had a great time. I do have a question - how did your group of 14 get to Sunset (van or taxis) and how much did it run? We will have a group of 8 and I;m not sure if we will fit into 2 taxis or if they will have vans availabe.

I will try and remember all the questions!

Setme2sail - Since we stayed at Maison St. Charles, they provided the transportation to the pier. All the carryons went into the limo trunk and 11 people were in the limo. They had a truck that carried all the luggage and the other three in our group. They were really nice. We didn't have a problem with the luggage.

twostacys & sea_u_onboard - Sunset Beach was still $20/pp. It was pretty good. Well worth the money. We took two vans to the beach and it didn't even take five minutes to get there. They charged us $2/pp for the cab oneway. The same people even came to pick us up. Great People! The water park was not open yet. It didn't really even look close. It looks like it would be really nice once they get it finished. The beach was nice but the pools were more fun.

jimbug - I live in Norman (go figure :) ) We love it there, especially in the summer when the students are gone.

Hope this helps! Feel free to ask me anything. I am going to post tips that I picked up from the cruise.

For some reason I completely forgot about the last two days of the trip. Here is the rest of my review. I guess I need some serious sleep. :)

Saturday – June 18th

This was the last day at sea. We slept in and went to breakfast when ever we got up. Did make any plans at all. We hung out by the pool and snaked around all day. We went back to our room about 3:00 because we were so tired and ready to get out of the sun. I started packing all our stuff. Don’t forget to leave something out to wear on Sunday. Got everything ready to go and took a nice nap. Went to dinner that night and had to say our goodbyes. We went to the casino again for a while. My DH and I went to the Lido Deck one last time to look over the side. It was pretty cool to see everything; you are already in the river by then. There were two cars parked with their lights on and when we went by they were honking and flashing their lights. I guess they didn’t have much going on that night.

Sunday – June 19th

Our group made plans to meet on the lido deck for breakfast around 8:30. We couldn’t go all the way to the 3rd deck so we waited by the casino on the 5th. The cleared the ship about 9:15 and we were off. We found our luggage fast and were looking for a cab. We got to vans to take all of us to the hotel. We were loaded and pulling out of the parking lot at 10:00 am. We made great timing. Getting of the ship was so easy. Didn’t have any problems what so ever.

We are sailing on the Conquest in December. This will be our first Carnival cruise. We've been on Disney, Princess a couple times, and Royal Caribbean. Sounds like this is a good ship.

We live in far south Oklahoma City. My husband is a Sooner and I am a Cowboy fan!

Thanks for the review. They always help with all the planning and gets me all excited.

Cindy

You will have so much fun. My advise would be to try not to keep up with everyone. It was hard doing it with 14 poeple. Just worry about yourself and the ones closest to you and will have a great time. I wish I was still there. :(
