Plantar Fasciitis SHOES for Southern Caribbean??

Recommended Posts

Hi to all PF suffers,

I too had PF for 10 plus years!! I saw specialists and had custom orthotics made and bought shoes that were $250 . I still suffered every day! DH would take me to the mall and I could only spend 45 minutes to an hour on my feet. Ate Advil like it was candy!!

I kept seeing an ad on TV for a place called "Good Feet". So one day I went to their store in Clearwater, FL to find out if they could help me, because I thought I would have PF for the rest of my life! I ended up spending almost $500 on three pair of inserts for my shoes that had varying degrees of support for my feet. I will tell you that the lady at the store said that they would change my life! I was skeptical, to say the least, but I was desperatefor any relief.

We'll they HAVE changed my life and I no longer have active PF but I still wear the inserts in every shoe I put on my feet, including the new boots with 5 inch heels that I bought last week. I have not been able to wear any heel over about an inch and a half for almost 10 years, but have recently been able to wear high heels again.

You can also find the least aggressive inserts being sold in the spa on most cruise ships. At least stop and let them give you a demo. I know your saying, yeah sure, but you have to try them to believe them. It took 9 months to a year for my PF to go away completely but I do not wake up anymore in the morning and fear getting out of bed and putting my feet on the floor.

They may change your life, too!

Cheryl

I wear heels more than ever in my life--my PF only flares up when I wear a low heel all day. This year my job description changed somewhat & I am on my feet MUCH more than ever before & it is bothering me often. Orthotics help a lot, but I notice my knees then bother me the day I wear the orthotics.

Luckily it hasn't ever been an issue on any cruises, tho I know in Vegas one trip it flared & really limited walking the last day. Wondering how this will go this cruise since it has been actively flaring for months...and me only with a carry on means I need to be very careful in my shoe choices...

Interesting about the Birkenstocks working. I tried to wear them all day once--BAD PLAN. MUCH too flat. They are fine to slip on to make dinner in but that is about it.

I agree with Lois R. My podiatrist was very pleased with my Vionics. I have mules, sandals, and flip flops. They also make dressier and sneakers even booties. All very cute. We walked and walked during a trip to Japan, averaging 10 miles a day. Vionic shoes are the only reason I was able to walk as much as we did. KT tape helped alot too. Plenty of videos on how to apply for PF. PF sufferers need good arch support. Hope this helps.

Good morning...….VIONICS work for me:) .they have some very cute styles with AWESOME ARCH SUPPORT:):)

I was hit with bad PF for first time in January and I ended up getting a pair of Vionic black flip flops and although expensive they go with so much and I wear them all the time. I’ve had good luck with Birkenstocks too - the Mayari sandal is more feminine than the basic one and colors are very nice.

Birkenstocks are now making a great sandal (Mayari without the top buckle) called the Betula. It is only made for Kohls & only available on line. Black, white, denim blue, bright metallic gold & bright metallic silver. I have the black & the white & they’re perfect

Betula is a lower priced line that Birkenstock has been making for ages - at least since the 90s. You might be able to get it at Kohls now, but it is not made specifically for them. You can get them direct and at specialty comfort shoe shops as well as online at Zappos etc. They also make a line called Papillio ;-)

Birkenstocks work really well for my feet with PF - I have silver gizeh & black ibiza which I don't think is being manufactured at the moment. It's similar to the madrid but 2 narrow straps instead of one thicker. I have a couple pairs vionic but I don't think they hold us as well as they should for their price;)

Fit Flops, Crocs (the cute wedges, not the classic clogs), Vionic flip flops & sandals.

All these brands do not bother my PF & have casual to dressy styles.

I also got the CUTEST Skechers wedge flip flops with large rhinestones in March in Vegas but it seems to be a discontinued style as I do not see them anywhere online. They are dressy enough for dinner. And COMFY.

OMG!! This post was written just for me. My PF was just diagnosed last week. I've got a cruise to the ABCs coming up in November.

Currently I'm sleeping with a "boot" at night and wearing Nike's during the day. No barefeet for me (that's the hardest part!). I hate wearing shoes.

The diagnosis was the perfect encouragement to purge my shoe collection, not to mention the task was long overdue.

I have several outlets available to try on some of the suggested brands and styles. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

Vionics have been a Godsend for me.....if you are staying a few days in Fort Lauderdale before hand, I have found them at Bealls for a decent price. They are twice as much from a shop that my medical mani/pedi girl operates in conjunction with a podiatrist. I hope to catch another pair while I am down there.

Just FYI - Nordstrom is having sale on summer shoes - I’m seeing 35% off on some of the Vionic flip flops.

I'm a big fan of the Abeo brand sold by The Walking Company. For the first time in my life I have sandals I can walk in for more than a few minutes. They even make water shoes & sport sandals.

I have Abeo exercise shoes - I was having a problem fitting exercise shoes as the brands that used to work for me (Merrell, New Balance) weren't working anymore and I'd have pain before finishing even 30 minutes on my treadmill. We were in Seattle last November and I stopped into a Walking Company (don't have any specialty shoe stores near me) and tried on EVERY pair of exercise shoes they had in my size - came home with a pair that I love. I've since tried on other styles and do like the brand but didn't need any other styles at the time (and the one style I wanted - slip on black sneakers - they didn't have ;p)

First, have you been to the orthopedist? If not, you should! If your plantar is currently inflamed, let him give you a cortizone shot. It will hurt, but you will be better the next day.

My orthopedist made me a set of orthopedic inserts, which slide into most shoes -- Keds-type sneakers, boat shoes, loafers. They're no good for sandals or strappy evening shoes, but they make MOST shoes work great. I stand up on a tile floor for work, and with these inserts, my pain is a 0 level at the end of the day. These inserts are supposed to last about five years (I'm on year three, and mine are still in perfect condition), and they cost one doctor's office co-pay.

Second, I can wear a number of shoe name-brands (without my inserts -- 'cause as much as I like my inserts, I live in the South and want sandals). I've figured these out through trial and error, and they work for me. All the rules are 100% mandatory -- absolutely no compromise:

- Arch support is the most important item, and it must be in just the right place.

- Sandals or flip-flops must have a "high strap" ... that is, a strap that hits near the ankle, not down by the toes.

- Shoe soles must have a "heel bed"; that is, the heel bed must be cupped to cradle the heel.

- Shoes must have a small heel; 1/2" - 1" is enough, but a flat shoe is a no-no.

I wear Keds, Vionics, Sketchers, Tevas, Jambus, and Chacos. Not EVERY style works, but those brands are all in my everyday rotation. These are 90% as good as my inserts, so I don't wear them on heavy-walking days at work, and I wouldn't wear them on a lengthy walking excursion. For a walking excursion, I would wear my inserts in slip-on Keds or Sketchers boat shoes.

Hoka shoes are a life saver. They currently only

have wild colored tennis shoes and a slide called "the recovery slide". They are the best if you are suffering from PF.  But not the best for nighttime on a cruise.  That's when I switch to my sofft brand.  I also wear my birkenstock for short periods.

I had plantar fasciitis so bad 10 years ago and it lasted a couple of years. I went to PT and ordered a pair of chaco eco tread flips. They are the bomb! They look like regular flip-flops but have a contoured arched footbed. These would be for around the pool and beach days. I actually pretty much lived in mine till my feet improved. They are about $50 online, but last for years with everyday wear. I had to give up my Teva's and have tried Abeo. Vionic has dressier cuter flip flops and sandals, but those Chacos saved my feet! I was sleeping in a boot, wearing orthotics and only New Balance tennis shoes for quite a while. I highly recommend them to anyone with PF.

I also have/had PF, in both feet. Used to sleep with the “boots” on my feet every night plus had supportive straps on all day. Then a podiatrist recommended I try MBT shoes.

They helped. Despite all the doubts I had, after reading about arch support.

Now I stay symptom free with MBT shoes, I can even use regular flat shoes for a short while without Pat acting up. 🙂
