Just back from Canada on Glory

When we left Halifax the weather was definitely headed in a not so good direction. We realized that we would spend Friday night and Saturday heading back to Boston through the remnants for TS Andrea. This is the first time we began to feel real movement from the water. Not abrupt sudden ones but a real roll throughout the day. The aft pool had had the cover closed most of the cruise and it definitely remained closed all day Saturday but the water was more of a genuine wave pool!

It was a day to spend time inside playing games, reading, and going to the various activities throughout the ship.

It began to smooth out early evening and by the time our dinner rolled around the sea was again fairly calm.

I always hate the last day at sea because things are coming to an end. I packed our stuff before dinner so we could just enjoy the evening. No bags outside for us. We began traveling with just a carryon and a tote each quite awhile back. We received #1 tags for our bags and were given the option to go to the Golden Restaurant at 7:15am to depart early with our bags or to wait until 8:30 if we had bags go out at night. We, of course, could stay on later if we wanted to but we had an early bus and decided to do the earlier departure. We were off the ship before 8 and caught the SL2 bus back to South Station at 8:10 directly across from the ship. Her bow lines up nicely with the bus stop for reference. :)

I am going to miss Glory sailing from Boston next year as it is such a convenience for us.

The food was good, the staff great, and with her refurb she looks marvelous.

As for Cheers, well, we paid the $574.42 and though I have not added it up yet but it was definitely a money saver. :o I think part of it was a 'just because I can' attitude and another part was the hassle free, no worry about the bill thing. We did not hit the 15 a day limit but had a couple of close calls and definitely more than broke even each day. With $10 being the max for each drink we did not feel the need to go with cheap brands at any time and enjoyed the top shelf for most things including the wine. My new friend, Tiramisu, runs $8.75 each. We will decide later if we will do it again. We can get quite a few drinks for $500 plus dollars.

Please feel free to ask any questions and I will do my best to answer. I always bring home plenty of 'reference' material. :D

Great review! I'm on the Glory on June 30 out of Boston for the 4-day cruise and your review got me even more excited! I, too, feel the same as you that the whole ship experience is what I love!

I noticed you said you'd miss the Glory out of Boston next year. Do you know something I don't know? Are they not having Boston based cruises anymore or just a different ship?

Nice review! Going on the 4 day this Sunday! Woo! I'm trying to figure out what to pack. Looking at jeans and hoodies from your pics. Was it cold outside on sea days?

We had some days that shorts and t shirts were OK. People were sunning on the deck and swimming. However you will definitely need something warm to put on in the evening and a couple of the days we were in need of light jackets and long pants. Halifax being one. Never seem to get there when it is warm!

We are not finding anything for Glory (or anything) next year from Boston. People have said they are pulling her out next year and I can't find a replacement. However things change all the time! Got to stay optimistic.

Good to know but we r just doing St. John, no Halifax...so maybe it will be warmer for us!

I heard they are only going from New York. Glad we could do it from Boston!

I think we would enjoy the tour of the brewery. Did you make reservations ahead or do you just walk up and join the next tour?

Could you eat lunch before or after the tour at the Red Stage Tavern?

Thanks for sharing your cruise with us.

You do not need a reservation. The tour takes about an hour. We were in the first one of the day at 12pm. Please note that they are on Atlantic time which is an hour ahead of us. You should stay on ship's time so you will be running with an hour difference all day. Just don't get your departure time mixed up! The Red Stag was open for dining.

Thanks, Sandy. I think we just might try this.

Your review was really informative. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for posting bookbug53! I was on the same sailing as you and you pretty much hit the nail on the head. I would add just 1 other observation, I attended the future cruise talk and we were told that there would be no Carnival ship sailing out of Boston to Canada/New England next year. As I currently live in NY, it is a win win for me because Boston is one of my favorite cities and would be a wonderful port of call.

I am not a complainer but I did make it known that I was unhappy having the muster drill as we pulled out of port. One of my favorite things to do is to have my camera at the ready as we pull out!!

Other than that all went well!:)

Thanks for that info, glad we booked this year then. I love the fact I can drive to get there.

That would be disappointing on sailaway.

The next day is Halifax and my DH and I always say "if it is rainy and cool" it must be Halifax. We have never been able to visit Halifax on any vacation and enjoy a sunny day. I know others claim to have had this happen but never for us.

Out of six visits to Halifax and six to Saint John, we always had good luck with Halifax; Saint John, on the other hand, has given us cloudy, cool days - and one time, a hurricane. I enjoyed your review, and thank you for the wonderful photos - especially of the USS Constitution. Based on the terminology you used in places, I gather the military service in your family is Navy? Our son commissions as an Ensign a week from today.

Did Carnival say why there would be no sailing out of Boston next year to Canada?

Welcome home. Great review/pics. I am interested in going to Alexander Keiths. Where are they located ? How from from the ship ?

It was about 20 minutes at a slow, we are not in a hurry, take a few pictures pace. They are located on a street up from the Harbor Walk running parallel to the lower half. Their address is 1496 Lower Water Street. Most Haligonians will be able to direct you to it. :D Yep, that is what they call themselves.

Dad was originally Navy and switched enlistment to the Air force for his final 16 years. DH however was Air force/Air Guard for the whole 34 years and just retired this past October. I just love history and the USS Constitution is a wonderful piece of it.

The bus ride down arrives at South Station where we catch the red line to Downtown Crossing and the yellow line to North Station.

For others who read your review and want to do the same itinerary you did, just want to let them know that you pick up the Orange line at Downtown Crossing (the T doesn't have a yellow line).

Not trying to nitpick, I just want everyone who comes to my awesome city to have a great experience, and don't want anyone getting lost, which is pretty easy to do in Boston!

Great Review!
