Anyone sailed on the Coral Princess recently

Recommended Posts

HI,

My wife and I and two other couples are heading to Alaska on the Coral in August and I just wondered what recent, this year preferably, thought about the condition of the ship and the friendliness of the crew.

If anyone is going on this cruise on Aug 14 leaving from Vancouver, here is a link to the rollcall for the cruise.

Thanks for your input and have a great next cruise.

Just off the Coral this past Wednesday, ship is in good condition. Though we would like to paint a bandage over the "owie" on the back starboard side. It is painted over, but you can still see the dent. Crew friendliness is another thing. Our cabin steward was great, the wait staff was good, both in dinning room and h.c. and bars. The rest of the crew was not so friendly. No one bother to say hello, and most seemed like they couldn't wait to get the next batch in. Personally, this was our first cruise in U.S. waters. We did see many people yelling at the PSD, and Exc. Desk, daily. Then it could have been the mix of people sailing.

Don't know which Coral you were on, but we were on April 20th to May 4th and found the crew to be very friendly. As always. Since this was our 68th Princess cruise, we know what to expect from every ship's crew and we get it; the smiles and the hellos. Always.

We did a back to back on Coral May 29-June 12 and thoroughly enjoyed the ship and the crew. This was our 13/14th cruises this year and I can honestly say it was one of the best cruises. The ship is in great condition. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. I can't remember anything that was negative--except to warn not to get a cabin anywhere over the Wheelhouse unless you stay up and about til very late! :)

Thanks for all the great replies. We are looking forward to the cruise. I have cruised on the Island Princess before and really enjoyed that ship. I think the Coral is very similar.

Thanks again and have a great next cruise.

I think the Coral added an International Café in the area where the casino bar was previously located on deck 6. We're eagerly looking forward to our 14 days on the Coral in less than 2 weeks.

I was just going to do a post to ask for people recently back from the Coral. I sail next week and am looking forward to it. To the OP, there are a couple of very good member reviews on the review page.

For me, I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what movies are showing on the ship. Also, how you liked the new improvements: International Café and I think the Horizon Court has been updated. How are wait times for Anytime Dining? I hear it's been unusually warm in Alaska right now. I can't figure out what to pack! Thanks.

When I was on Coral previously, there was no IC.

I recently booked, and was checking the deck plan

-- and now see an International Cafe.

Is is open 24 hours, like the bigger ships?

International Cafe on the Coral:

Yes, it's open 24 hours, but is really small. They have almost everything the bigger ones have; i.e.salads, sandwiches, etc. I didn't see quiches, but that doesn't mean they weren't there. The area is small and since it's right up against the casino. there is no lingering there all day. This is a good thing. The readers and card players have had to find somewhere else to occupy space. The coffee bar is adjacent and has whatever you need/want.

Grazie Cugina...it's good to have more options than the few snacks at the Lobby Bar...maybe they'll eat their food on the blackjack tables? :p

Also was on the Coral April 20 to May 4. The crew was great...Very friendly especially the staff in the Sanctuary. Made the 2 week cruise memorable, like a step back in time when cruising was less mass marketing.... Food was very good and in the Bayou was fantastic!!!!

Does anyone know if Sabatini's is open for breakfast? I ready someone's review of a trip they took on Diamond Princess and they had breakfast in Sabatini's every day. We were on the Island Princess for the Panama Canal trip but I thought that restaurant just served dinner? If it's open for breakfast, do you have to pay like at dinner? Thanks.

Sabatini's on all Princess ships is only open for breakfast (no extra charge) for those in suites. You cannot pay and you cannot be there unless you are in a full suite.

The card room on Coral is on deck 8, nothing to do with the IC.

john

HUH? What does the card room have to do with the IC query?

We were on the same cruise, Cabana #2 in the Sanctuary... great staff and we saw them all at other venues on the ship (Bayou Cafe, Sabatini's for breakfast, dining room, etc.). Absolutely one of our best cruises ever... we had not been on the Coral in several years and I'd forgotten how much I enjoy this size ship, and I can't wait to sail on the Coral again.

The updated Horizon Court is one of the loveliest in the fleet. Spacious and very pretty. You don't have to thread through a tiny area to access the food. Its very open all around the serving area and all the desserts are in a large section of its own with the drinks area. It was a pleasure to eat in the Court-the staff was so courteous and service was extremely quick.

Thanks...I thought they had made another change but didn't remember it was to the HC which has the nice views looking forward. :)

That whole back area that used to have a step up and a piano, is now level and the dessert section. Opposite that are two drink stations. When facing the desserts, there is a coffee bar on the right. They didn't do fresh brewed, but you could get all specialties.

Molto Bene! :D

The 10 day forecast shows the early season heatwave may have subsided...from the upper 50s in Whittier to the 60s & low 70s in other ports.

You stated that card players would have to find another location.

Do you or anyone have any RECENT pictures of D725 on this ship both interior and exterior? I have done some in depth searches and found some from 2008 but there have been some major updates. Is the window washer equipment still blocking ths cabin view? We are booked in this minisuite and would like to see the cabin. Thanks?

I don't have any specific info about your cabin but maybe this link about the Island & Coral balconies could be helpful since it says that it was "Last updated on Thursday, April 04, 2013 7:19:14 AM".

Since recategorization of cabins the categories may be inaccurate however nothing has changed about the cabin locations. It shows that D725 has an uncovered balcony & there are 2 photos showing the general area. Here's a good one of D726 which is in the same location as your cabin only on the port side of the ship.

It shows the window washer around the corner facing aft in an area which appears to be for crew only & hopefully that's where it is always stored when not in use.
