i have to say that i had a good time.

this was my first cruise and traveled with my son who is 25 and this also was his first cruise.

EMBARKATION: i live in connecticut, so i drove to the train station caught the metro north to grand central station went outside to park ave. and caught a cab over to the pier (about 8 dollars/including tip), i went inside the terminal and was the 16th person there waiting to check-in, after about 2 minutes, they pre-checked us in and after about 45 mins. they sent us thru security and to another line to get our sail and sign card. NOTE:i arrived at the pier at 10:15am and was on the ship by 12:15pm) the biggest wait was in-line waiting to take pictures, the machine wasn't working.

while i was in line waiting, some people who are use to traveling out of new york said you have to get there very early or 1 hour before the ship is to leave, to avoid the very long lines and the attitudes of the pier and carnival workers.

NOTE: when we arrived at the pier, the porter said we had to check our carry-ons with him before we could go into the terminal. i let him know will quick that i did not have too check my carry-ons with him and walked away.

DO NOT LET THEM TAKE YOUR CARRY-ON'S- THE PEOPLE WHO GAVE THEM THERE CARR-ON'S NEVER SEEN THEM AGAIN. ( sorry to shout, but i wish i know these people did this i would have told them to get there bags back)

ONBOARD: we went to our room drop-off our bags and went to the lido deck and the eating party..lol:D the muster drill was a alittle suffocating (surrounded by sooo many people, i was fighting to breath, i was in the back):( after the drill, we explored the ship and went to the lido deck for the sail away.

SEA DAY FRIDAY: after a wonderful sit down breakfast in the paris dinning room i went to the lido deck and bathed in the sun and ate at the new york deli, this was my spot all four day's for lunch. the sandwiches are very good.

SATURDAY HALIFAX: i got off early so i could start my day, i did my own thing and i enjoyed myself. my son loved the food and the people. we was back on the ship by 3pm.

SUNDAY SEA DAY: we went to every event that they had inside, because we had fog and rain on the way back to new york.

ENTERTAINMENT: the not-so-newlywed game was a hoot, the shows was also nice and the other entertainment, ie: karaoke, win-lose-or draw, treasure hunt and the sing-along was all very good.

FOOD: all the food was very good in the dining room and at the deli, i did room service once and it was fine.

ROOM STEWARD: we had sherwin for our steward and i loved him and wanted him to come home with me and turn down my covers and put that mint and towel animal on my bed....lol, (i gave him extra, he did a good job)

debarkation: we carried our laggage off ourselves and was off the ship my 8:30am.

CONCLUSION:we had a wonderful time, we did not let the little things bother us. there was people getting up-set that some people came to formal night with jeans on.(if carnival is not inforcing the rules, then why is everyone else worrying? the offenders are happy and having a nice time while you have a headache, relax and eat)

will i cruise again: yes yes yes, i enjoyed every bit of my first cruise.:)

Hi Tinna,

Thanks for the great review, I am going on the Triumph on Sept. 5-10th to Canada. Boy, that Porter incident REALLY concerns me! Did you feel safe giving them your checked in luggage, I would of been really apprehesive about it. I have sailed out of NY several times, I know sometimes the porters ask for extra money, but am surprised to hear this.

Now, about the cruise itself, what, may I ask did you do on the shore excusion

in Halifax, I am looking for something simple for my family- husband and 2 kids 14 years old. Also, would like to go somewhere within walking distance of the port. Is that possible? Did you find it difficult to find your way around the ship? How was your cabin., we have a BL GTY. Hope its nice. Thanks for your time and review.

We had a very friendly, helpful porter when we sailed last year. Ended up checking one of our carry-ons - we had way too many. His comment? "Why not check it - you're on vacation!" We had no problem with all of our luggage being delivered to our cabin intact.

Carlakuch - There's a lot to do within walking distance of the dock. We walked along the boardwalk to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, had lunch at a local restaurant (wish I could remember the name - DH thought the local brew was great!) and then walked up the hill to the Citadel. There are a number of harbor tours available right on the waterfront; although we didn't take any, the HarbourHopper and the Silva looked like good tours. (Our then-four year-old was just happy to see Theodore Tugboat motoring aroung the harbor, and didn't even think to ask for a ride!)

my son and myself had 1 wheeled luggage and i shoulder bag, we carried our luggage on the ship. the porter was telling me had to check my bags and my carry-on's with him before i could go into the terminal, that i did not like.(he said it with a little tone to it). there was 3 people on the floor i was on very upset because they was told also by the porter that they had to check there carry-on bag with him. they haven't seen there bags since. i told them he said the same to me and i did not give him my bags.

my son and i walk all over halifax and took plenty of pictures, we had lunch by the pier and we was very tired from the walk. you can't get lost by walking and also you could rent a car right at the pier in halifax.

i don't anyone to get me wrong, you could check your luggage with the porter, i just chose to carry both my pieces on and i think the porter saw red(he's not making extra on me, just imagine if everyone did that). i still feel sorry for the people who never saw there carry-on's.

Hey Tinna,

I also had an absolute blast this past weekend. Did you go to Karaoke both Thursday and Friday? My husband got up and sang both nights and closed the place down. We had some awesome table-mates and just laughed and partied all weekend long.

You may have seen us wandering about....my husband is 6'9" and I'm 6'2".

Glad you enjoyed your trip. We're booked on another same time next year out of New Orleans. I had pre-booked it and wanted to see if I still loved crusing, and I do. It was so much fun.

Conquest....here I come!

I'm planning to take one small wheeled (like a flight attendant bag) and one carry on both of which I planned to carry onto the ship myself. Do you think that will be a problem?

As for the porters at the port- do they meet you curbside or did you have to hunt them down ?( I realize don't expect much- I live in NY!!) Just having last minute jitters! But thanks for your heads up about the carry ons!!

Thanks!

Thanks Tianna for the review.

I leave in a few weeks-can't wait.

I was just wondering, what the major demographics of the cruisers aboard were--senior citizens?, families?, singles?

my son is 25 years old and i think there was just a hand full of them his age. there was 300 kids on the ship, but felt like 20 kids on the ship, yes there was alot of families and groups, everyone was well behaved, until the last day when we all just party hard:D
