Pinnacle Grill

Has anyone ever [gasp] shared a dinner in the Pinnacle? I know the portions are huge -- there's no Doggy for the leftovers -- so it's a waste, right? We would love to order one meal and share it all -- appetizer, entree, and dessert -- and it would still be a huge meal!

Do you think we could do that on one charge, since only one meal? hehehe

If you are occupying a seat in the Pinnacle Grill, I would expect you would be charged. The waiter will be seating you, filling your water glass and fussing over you.:D Interesting question. We have taken a special anniversary dessert they made for us back to our room.

All you need to do is ask. Sharing plates does create better portion sizes for a lot of us. However, be warned some of the HAL Pinnacles have been so good you might find you don't want to share. The one on our last Rotterdam cruise was top in its class, beyond top in its class. I would have driven a fork into any hand that tried to share anything they prepared - and lunch was even better than dinner. Other Pinnacles in the past were not as good, but either they have had a major turn around in the past few years or we were just plain lucky they had such a wonderful chef on board.

I wouldn't expect they would be agreeable to one meal for two. I've never seen or heard anyone do that in Pinnacle.

Most people leave some of their meal behind as the entrees are large portions. You don't have to order from all courses. Just order fewer courses so you won't be distressed.

They might do it. With a service charge of maybe...............$25.00.

Just a thought.

Everything in the PG is NOT huge portions - the crab cakes aren't huge - the caesar salad is satisfying and you can order smaller steaks (my preference as they are tenderer) or a lobster which is not huge or whatever.

Just don't get carried away with side dishes;)

I think you will be just fine with two orders each - just don't order the huge portherhouse:D

DH and I do not eat a lot and we seldom eat the same food. We also hate to waste, so we often share a Prime Rib, even though I like it rare and he likes it medium (guess who compromises?). We have eaten at the PG many times and usually have the lobster, so I was shocked when I saw the size of my fillet! It was SO HUGE (10 oz.) and so delicious!! I couldn't possibly eat it all and I couldn't let them throw it away, so I cut it and they wrapped it, and I took it back to my cabin's refrigerator for two days of incredible "snacks". ;)

I had dinner at the PG with another CC member who introduced me to carrying a ziploc sandwich bag or two in her purse. She strongly suggested that I never let the end-of-meal chocolates go to waste.

One of her ziploc bags came in handy for me to carry a lobster tail from the MDR Formal night to my cabin for a chilled lobster snack before bed.

I agree -- they are going to charge you the extra $25 -- you are taking up a seat.

They won't have a problem with your sharing the one entree -- they may limit the number of salads, sides and dessert you can have since you only want the one entrée.

I know -- you are entitled to multiple sides, etc. -- but you only want to pay for one entrée.

While my husband and I generally share meals in a land based restaurant, where even then we can't eat all of the lumberjack sized portion, we never think of sharing in the Pinnacle. We order a small steak and the rest is sides, which can be ordered or not, as you wish.

I suspect that you would be charged for two meals whether you share or not.

I'm so glad to know that it's not too tacky to have a personal planned-overs bag! I am assuming that the refrigerator in our cabin (Signature Suite) is a true refrigerator, and the food will be safe ???

I would not trust putting meat into a cabin 'cooler' to eat later. A regular refrigerator chills to about 35 degrees. Those mini-bar coolers don't get anywhere near as cold as that. It's fine for soft drinks but not for left over meat.

I believe they intentionally call them coolers so people don't rely on them for safe under 40 degree refrigerators. Take a thermometer and measure it to be sure if you plan to store food that needs to be chilled property. Or merely rethink your travel budget to include a few excesses and indulgences where you might not get exactly every penny of value from your Pinnacle experience.

The only cabins on HAL ships that have a true refrigerator is the PS.

All other mini refrigerators are nothing but coolers.

I can't even get a bottle of water cool enough for me like I do at home.

The only true refrigerators are available for rent and the PS. They are for medication, the cabins are only equipped with "cool boxes."
