Just back from Enchantment (7-22 sailing) & short comparison between RCI and Carnival

Recommended Posts

We just returned form the 4 night Enchantment. Our last cruise was on the Carnival Magic (rebooked after Triumph was cancelled so sailed our 7 night cruise for the same price as our 5 night with the offerrred discount) and last year sailed on Carnival's Destiny for 5 nights.

We tend to like the 7 night sailings better, we enjoy the promenade, however we did notice the following things when comparing our 4/5 night sailings. I tried to hit areas not always commented on. Feel free to ask questions.

These are just our observations:

Food:

All meals were hot on Enchantment. Our server really wanted to make us happy, we only ate their 2 nights. On our last night our son was filling out the customer survey and the server looked at it. He asked him why he gave him a "good." My son (19) said that everything was good! The server said to please not turn in the form! (He was very nice.) He went on to say that they earn 1 point for every Excellent, but lose 5 points for every Good, etc. Depending on their points, they are giving more or less tables. Yes, my son changed his note to Excellent!

Cabin was fine in both situations and clean. Cabin stewards were efficient and pleasant.

Room service: Royal has this beat because they deliver hot foods. BUT Carnival delivered on our last morning which was a nice plus.

Entertainment: We found Royal lacking. Just our preference but we did not enjoy the shows. We really enjoyed the variety of comedians on Carnival's Destiny and Magic. We liked the shows better on Carnival too.

Internet: Carnival Magic had this beat. Very quick and computers all over! Enchantment's speed was very slow.

Guest Services: We needed to go to Guest Services to get a print out of our bill, however, always efficient, friendly, and efficient. Carnival has a kiosk set up where you can print them off.

Double check your bill. On Enchantment we were charged for 2 sodas from our cabin. We specifically put everything neatly under the counter so noone would drink them. Guest services took the charge off, but it was disturbing that we were charged when it was obvious nothing was touched.

Soda Package: Long lines in the evening and you had to carry around your cup or you only had a choice of 3 sodas. Royal said they were working on getting more machines. It is a nice perk to be able to self serve, but maybe they could add a way to swipe your card (on a timer system like they use now)

We loved the interactive Cruise Compass on Enchantment.

Teen Area: 15 year old used the clubs to meet people and then hung out, he had a great time

19 year old: very difficult to meet people. We made a suggestion to the Cruise Director (who seemed open to the idea) to section off areas for the different age groups just to help people meet each other. For example, there was trivia one night for 18-20 year olds. At the same time was trivia for everyone else. Maybe a sports climbing wall time, volley ball, ping pong, basketball, trampoline jumping time, trivia for only their age group, etc.

We had a great time and did not experience lines, chair hogs, etc. Elevators were good. The ship was nice. We loved the Quest and the Love/Marriage show. The late night comedian was fun. The group game shows were also fun.

We stayed at Country Inn and Suites and it was great. Shuttle to ship was convenient and efficient. We took a cab back for convenience.

All of our water and beverages arrived in our room with only a question about our case of water in our checked bag. They did not like that we had a case of water. She asked how many people it was for and that it was an awful lot of water. I politely commented that I saw many people walking around with cases of beer. They questioned the 2 beers also in that case, however I told them that it was left over from the hotel. They let me take all of it to our cabin. All other beverages arrived in our room as packed.

We thought each cabin was allowed 2 bottles of wine. We had 2 cabins so each of us (my husband and I) carried on 2 bottles. Nothing was said.

Embarkment was quick and we self carried off without a problem. Both probably took 10 minutes each.

Feel free to ask any questions. We loved getting our information from all of you. ( We hope to end up on the Oasis/Allure someday!)

My Question:

I thought no beer at all was allowed to be brought on-board any Rci ship? so did you really see many people with full cases?????

How is that?

Did they have the Coke freestyle machines on Enchantment or just a standard Coke machine?

Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app

Yup! Two Freestyle Machines. One on deck 6 and one in the Windjammer.

Yes, there were 2 freestyle coke machines. There were long lines in the evening, but otherwise we didn't see lines.

We had a couple beers left from the night before and put them in the bag with the water. No, you are not "supposed" to bring it on. We observed people carrying cases of WATER, not beer. We also saw people bringing on 12 packs of soda, but not as many as people with water.

Thanks for the review. I'll be on her in Oct. and saw you like the interactive Cruise Compass. What do you mean by interactive? Happy Cruising!!!

'Touch-screen' throughout the ship, which have the compass as well as menus
