Car hire: Fort Lauderdale to Disney

Hi all,

Can anyone share with me any experiences they've had with disembarking their cruise at FLL and getting to Orlando? We're flying from Orlando 3 days later so just want to get up there as soon as possible and drop a car off so we can get exploring with the mouse! We don't need the car once we're there as our hotel will take care of getting us to the airport, we literally just need to get from the ship to Orlando.

Any advice really appreciated, thanks very much.

We've done this many times, it's very easy. We either take the rental car shuttle (National/Alamo) or a taxi from the port to FLL to pick-up our car. FLL is right next to Port Everglades so it only takes 5-10 minutes to get there. It's a really easy drive to Orlando on the Florida Turnpike. Takes about 3 - 3.5 hours and costs roughly $15-$20 in tolls. Return the car at MCO and then shuttle to your hotel. If you are staying at a Disney hotel you can use their Magical Express shuttle service from the airport.

If you are staying onsite at WDW, I would check dropping off at WDW rather than at the airport. They have the Car Care Center which has I believe Alamo and National. Drop your stuff at teh hotel, head to the CCC, and then they will shuttle you back to your onsite hotel. Also, several of the hotels have various rental agencies (Dolphin and several in Downtown Disney).

Not to highjack the thread OP, but we are planning this from Miami after our cruise. I have been searching but haven't found a lot of information.

I have just narrowed it down to renting the car at MIA and dropping it off at MCO, to catch the Magical Express to our Disney Resort. We are meeting friends who will fly in that day to join us.

Alamo and National are at the Disney Car Care Center, others are at the various hotels.

Any other comments on this scenario will be appreciated.

Thank you SO much to you guys for responding, I've just booked with Hertz as they have a shuttle that we can get from Port Everglades to collect a car (apparently 2 miles away) & then we'll be on our way. Ar the other end there is a Hertz place 2 miles away from our hotel (not WDW unfortunately) but I'm hoping somebody nice from Hertz will take us the 2 miles, otherwise a taxi will hopefully be easy enough. All in all we should be there for lunch :) Or perhaps they are those 'famous last words...'

Big tick off my list doing that, only 97 more sleeps to go ;)

Thanks again
