Marilyn Johannes Posted July 29, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 29, 2013 We are going on Sapphire Vancouver to Los Angeles in September. We are thinking of changing from B312 balcony to D118 suite. Anybody have experience as to pros or cons of doing this? It would be around $300 for both of us.

The cabin is better in that you will have a full tub/shower and a sofa. If you take the mini-suite, be aware that you may never be satisfied with a balcony cabin again. The down side to your move would be the fact that D118 is so much closer to the bow of the ship. You can expect more motion there and if you are prone to sea sickness you may regret the move. LiveToCruise99 Posted July 29, 2013 #3 Share Posted July 29, 2013 If it were me, I'd stay right where I was and spend the $300 on a nice excursion, a night pre cruise (or post cruise) or anything else. I don't think you are gaining much between the two and your balcony cabin is in a better spot. Just my two cents. Enjoy.
f-mattox Posted July 29, 2013 #4 Share Posted July 29, 2013 I agree with LiveToCrsuise99: if it were my choice I'd stay put. Don't get me wrong: mini-suites are very nice and the extra room comes in handy on longer cruises. But for 7 nights the standard balcony cabin is just fine--and yours is in a better location than the mini. But you'll have a great cruise either way; Sapphire Princess is our favorite ship. Rare JimmyVWine Posted July 29, 2013 #5 Share Posted July 29, 2013 We always get Mini-Suites, but our reasons may not matter to you. First, we travel as a family of three, and my daughter much prefers the pull-out as her bed as opposed to a pull-down bunk. Also, not having the pull-down bunk allows us to configure the main beds as a Queen. With three people in the cabin, having the sofa as extra seating space is critical. Second, my wife has a very, very strong preference for baths over showers. My daughter and I are fine with a shower. But family harmony dictates that we get a tub. Other than that, I would be fine saving money and getting Balcony Rooms. When my daughter gets older and no longer travels with us, we will have to re-visit the whole shower vs. tub thing. But I think I know how that will turn out. Bottom line, if you don't care about the tub and don't need additional seating, save your money. But if a tub and a sofa are critical, as noted above, once you travel in a Mini, you will never go back.
Marilyn Johannes Posted July 29, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted July 29, 2013 Thanks for your quick replies. I think we will probably stay put. We haven't cruised on Princess for awhile so I wasn't sure if there were any perks besides size with the mini suite.

If it were me, I'd try for a Caribe balcony cabin as the balcony is much larger and is half-covered, half-uncovered.
