Aft-View Balcony - Do I upgrade?

Recommended Posts

My wife and I are currently booked on deck 7 in a balcony room midship on the Carnival Triumph. There have just been two openings to Aft-view balconies on deck 6. Should we upgrade?

We originally had an aft-view on deck 7 on our January cruise, but had to switch to october and they were all sold out. Is deck 6 that much worse than deck 7 on the Carnival Triumph? We have heard the engine noise/motion can be an issue along with sound coming from the floor below it (not sure what is on deck 5 of Triumph)

Some background info: We have not had a balcony before, but we looked forward to the aft to be able to stretch out a little. My wife will also be 4 months pregnant, and not sure if the walking would be that much of an issue or not. Anyone been pregnant on a cruise before?

We would appreciate your opinions :)

We had an aft-facing balcony on the Pride and loved it. It had one straight back chair, a small table, and a padded lounge chair that DW could stretch out on after her recent knee surgery. I cannot comment on deck 6 vs 7 on the Triumph but we did have a steady, mild vibration while we were underway. It did not bother us at all. Look for photos of your side of the ship and try to locate your cabin...sometimes you can do this pretty easily and get a good idea what your balcony has on it.

Were you on deck 6?

I think I am in the minority but I DON'T like the aft balcony. It is larger, which is nice, but there is no breeze and I prefer to see where we're going as opposed to where we've been. I wasn't a fan of the wake. I would upgrade to an extended balcony on the side of the ship myself, but to each his own. Happy cruising!

DH and I are also in the minority...not an aft fan! No shade no breeze. We used the aft balcony less than any balcony we ever had. The view was nice. Just too hot to use.

Our experience also. The aft is bigger but we enjoy midship extended balconies more, and we do spend alot of time out there.

No opinion on the balcony, but I cruised at about 13 weeks. Other than restricting some of my excursion options, decreasing my appetite somewhat (really, changing it more than decreasing) and upping my queasiness on one rough sea day (Hubbard glacier) I didn't find pregnancy to be a big issue. But so much depends on ones particular pregnancy. People react so differently. How has the pregnancy been so far? Both of my pregnancies were really good at the four month point. Mostly over the morning sickness and not yet the size of a whale! :)

I love aft balconies, but . . . If you take Deck 6, you will be over Club Rio, which means late nights and LOUD music. We just returned from a cruise on Triumph and the music everywhere was very loud, so I would imagine you would hear it.

Additionally, the week we traveled, there was some flooding on the back hall of Deck 7, affecting the aft cabins there. Something about the pipes to the pool was all the info I could get. I do not know if it extended to the other decks, but I know they were replacing carpet in the aft cabins on Deck 7 on the day we returned!

IMHO, stay put. Now, if they offer you 7419/7416 - grab it! The room size is a little smaller, but it has an oversized balcony with a lounge chair and two straight chairs and FOUR closets!! We absolutely would take this room again.

I had an aft on the Ecstasy and I loved it. I considered an aft on my upcoming Triumph cruise but I changed my mind after reading the reviews. The Triumph balconies are not shaded like the Ecstasy and the dividers between the balconies are sloped giving less privacy. We decided to do a regular balcony to have some shade.

Another one who is not a big fan of aft balconies. We had one one the Freedom and did not like it due to constant sun and lack of privacy. Also we felt the movement of the ship a lot more then we did on a side balcony.

We will be in our 3rd aft balcony suite this Nov on the Dream. They are our favorite. They are larger and just as private as side balconies. We never had an issue with noise, only the sound of the ship's wake. I don't remember issues with having too much sun either. We spend more time on the aft balconies then we have on the side balconies. Good luck with your decision and happy cruising.

I know I posted earlier that I didn't care for the aft balcony, but I forgot to mention one GIANT perk to having an aft, which is that the hallway is empty. There is no noise from kids or drunks wandering the halls. The only reason to be in those hallways is because your cabin is back there.
