Scotch Mist Posted August 2, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 2, 2013 Can anyone tell me what is within walking distance of this hotel? I want to buy wine, liquor, sodas and beer. Plus somewhere to have dinner. I see that there is a Chili's nearby but not sure if we can walk to it. Any advice is much appreciated!:confused::rolleyes:;):) Sent from my GT-N7100 using Forums mobile app
runner15km Posted August 2, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 2, 2013 As I recall there is a restaurant right next door but no stores for supplies. We took a cab to the port and had the driver stop at a Liquor Store for some wine.:)
JohninDC Posted August 2, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 2, 2013 Nearby there used to be a Bennigans with horible reviews - not sure it is still open? - as well as the dining room at the Embassy Suites (where dinner will cost as much as your LQ room!); there are no stores nearby. Comfort Suites Airport North may be a better budget option for your; like LQ East it offers free shuttles from the airport and then to the cruise port the next morning. Across the street is a gas station-mart if you need to pick-up soda, water, etc. There are 3-4 dining options nearby. The hotel is not in the most scenic area as it is on the edge of the airport. Good luck! :)

bktok Posted August 14, 2013 #6 Share Posted August 14, 2013 Looking at this hotel for August 2014. Very intrigued by the free hotel AND port shuttles. However, I'm wondering if anyone knows what time the port shuttle leaves or does it come and go as it fills up?

When you check in at the hotel you sign up for the shuttle. The 1st shuttle left the hotel at 11am and then does a continuous loop. We checked in at 5pm and the shuttle was full for the 1st departure and we would arrive at the port around noon on the second shuttle. We decided to take a cab at 10:30 am and we were on the ship by noon.

I'm thinking a cab at 1030a would be better, albeit extra $$$ out of pocket. How much was your cab fare to the port from LQ, if you don't mind me asking? caribsun Posted August 14, 2013 #10 Share Posted August 14, 2013 We stayed here in Jan. We had a 10am shuttle....signed up at noon the day before. Glad to here there is a 10 am shuttle. I was told 11am and I just missed that departure. If you arrive before the 3pm checkin I guess you have a better chance of getting the 10am departure. Its all about 1st come 1st serve. Cab to port was 25.00.
cruisenshop Posted August 18, 2013 #11 Share Posted August 18, 2013 Looking at this hotel for August 2014. Very intrigued by the free hotel AND port shuttles. However, I'm wondering if anyone knows what time the port shuttle leaves or does it come and go as it fills up? Waited and waited for the airport shuttle. No towels in our room when we arrived. Floor was damp. Breakfast in am was a disaster. Everything was a mess (mostly due to guests) and very little left to eat at 9 am for my teen who slept in. We were scheduled for the 11 shuttle and waited and waited.. Finally abandoned the idea and took a cab - at 12:30. We did not think the free shuttles were worth the lack of quality in this hotel. Would not go back.
Sparky2 Posted August 18, 2013 #12 Share Posted August 18, 2013 We've stayed here twice before when cruising out of Miami. We're staying again in 2014. There are absolutely no stores nearby. The first time we stayed there, Bennigan's was open so we had dinner there. The next year it was closed so we ordered pizza. That Bennigan's is open again so we'll probably eat there even if the reviews for Bennigan's are not great. Actually, some recent comments for this hotel on Tripadvisor have not been negative for Bennigan's so maybe they've improved. Both previous times we had great service on their 10 AM shuttle to the cruiseport. I think we did wait about 30 minutes for the shuttle both times as we'd just missed one. Do they have a stay, park and cruise package? Can't tell from their website. Thanks in advance. When someone will return to a place, it means it's not awful! Thanks for your post. Oh my goodness, that's what we tell people here over and over again on this board - no shuttle is worth a bad hotel in a bad area. So sorry about your experience. :( . ochelli Posted September 12, 2013 #17 Share Posted September 12, 2013 we are going on The Carnival Breeze and was wondering if since this is an 8 day cruise and the hotel shows Free parking for 7 days, will this be a problem? Has anyone sailed the Breeeze and stayed here? I am driving down from Orlando Friday Oct 11th and made a Rez for La Quinta East. 85.00 per night acceptable and since we will have a car, we are fine with driving somewhere for dinner.
