Anyone used internet to go from Walmart while onboard? According to their website you can use it anywhere. It starts as low as $10.00, a lot cheaper than what they sell on ship.http://www.walmart.com/browse/cell-phones/mobile-broadband/internet-on-the-go/3944_542371_1071164/YnJhbmQ6SW50ZXJuZXQgT24gVGhlIEdv?_refineresult=true&ic=48_0&povid=cat1089430-env432682-moduleB051813-lLinkZone5InternetontheGo

Won't help on the ship. It just connects to Sprint, which you can't do without going through the ship.

If I recall it actually only works domestically.

And as a Sprint customer, I'd guess it works dreadfully pretty much everywhere.

I'm a dummy.....

Do you have to get both the mobile hotspot and the "gift" card?

Im not sure I understand your question, maybe you could put it in simpler terms??

What gift card and what mobile hotspot?

The cheapest I have heard of for phone calls from a cell phone is $2.49 vs $1.99 from your cabin.

You have to pay or have roaming charges included because at home with a hot spot you can connect to a tower.

On the ship you have to have service that would connect to the satalitte which goes thru Carnival.

You would need the hotspot and then to purchase data "cards"

I'm thinking pay as you go devices don't work on cruise ships.

Cruise ship plans keep track of minutes used with unlimited data.

The data cards don't look like bargains to me when compared with some other devices like a verizon jetpack - which would also be faster.

The ad shows " mobile hot spot" for $79. Also "refill cards" for $10 and $20....

Do you need both of those?

Yes, you need to purchase the device ($79) and then you need to pay for the data usage which would be the 'refill cards'.

Depending on the pay as you go service, the price for data/time can vary greatly and, AFAIK, none of the pay as you go services - internet or phone - work on the ships.

I have a pay as you go tracfone and such things do not work at sea.

Because they cant add roaming charges, so they just are disabled.

I go use the internet in the ports.

We have one of these and refill online. They just changed their plans July 19th. Here is part of the email we received:

"Internet on the Go data plans will consist of our “Whenever Plans” with following denominations and data allotments:

$10 - 500MB $25 - 1.5GB $45 - 3GB

You will continue to enjoy great value from Internet on the Go’s no contract, pay as you go mobile Internet service. These unique “Whenever Plans” allow you to use your data whenever you want while allowing you to carryover unused megabytes with no 30-day, weekly or daily expiration.

In conjunction with the above, online 30-Day Plans at http://www.internet-go.com, will be suspended. It is our intent to resume 30-Day Plans with the introduction of faster, next generation (4G) network coverage next year."
