Have you ever eaten with the Captain?

Has anyone with kids been invited to the Captain's table? I can understand if it were an "adults-only" experience.

I've never seen young children at the Captain's table. They invited us and our daughter once, but she was over 21 at the time and staying in the same stateroom.

Yes. The dress code was formal.

 

The menu was not the regular items, but a selection of three or four tems per course. The wine flowed, the conversation was interesting, and the host was very gracious.

 

At the end of the evening you receive a special photograph.

This was our experience as well. We also received the menu & the photo with the Captain in a folder/frame as a souvenir as well.

Yes, a very nice evening. Food a bit different from the main menu, wine flows, and don't have a clue how we got there. Glad we had the opportunity to experience it and enjoyed very much. Sure would like for it to happen again! The picture of the group and the signed menu is a nice touch.

We were invited to eat at the Captain's table once and it was a wonderful experience. We were not staying in a suite, and we were not Diamond status at that time. We were given basic dining instructions with our other invited tablemates prior to sitting down. We did order from an ''elegant, different menu", and red and white wines were flowing in abundance. One of the couples at the table were on their first cruise, and were staying in a regular, windowless cabin. We were given a photograph of the entire group, and one with us and the Captain after dinner. Oh....by the way, my husband's basic cruise attire except for smart, casual dinner wear, is a "Harley T-shirt". We joked all day prior to dinner, that RCCL was doing a test study to see if a "biker" could pass the Captian's dinner test!!;)

:)Been invited many times, and we always dressed formal! It is such an honor, why wouldn't you dress up? The captain chooses his own menu and wine selection is his also. (It is always superb!!!) Can't wait for the next one!

I would consider such invitation an honor and would most certainly attend. I generally always rent a tux so attire would not be a problem. I doubt it will ever happen to me though :o

 

Never say never. We were shocked we were asked and didn't know why. Would love to be invited again.

Yes! On one of the last sailings of the Song of America to Bermuda. It was formal night & we had to meet in the library to be escorted into the dining room. We asked our waiter why we were selected & he said "I don't know. You probably just looked good."

 

In conversation with the captain, we discovered that when not on the ship, he lived about 20 miles from us in VA. That might have been part of the reason. He really liked to talk about his home.

 

The hi light of the evening was that he invited the entire table to a private tour of the bridge & his private quarters. Quite an experience. The captain has a lot more space to live in than we do in our cabins.

Have done 56 cruises on many lines have never had dinner with captain, loved all my RCCL cruises one of the best was at large table that included one of the ships doctors , we all got along great and we kept in touch with many of them for years, maybe sometime in future.

Has anyone that has been invited to dine with the captain ever declined the invitation?

 

We politely declined since we were cruising with friends and they were not included in the invitation. We were honored but our friends were new cruisers, it was a 3 day sailing and we didnt want to abandon them. Hoping for another invite in the future.

I would be honored to be asked to sit at the Captain's table. On our last cruise, the captain of the Vision of the Seas let us take a formal picture with him and he was so friendly and approachable and even took a few minutes to chat with us. I bet all the folks that got to eat with him during that cruise had a wonderful time. I will keep on wishing that we are given the opportunity.

Awesome answer on your post. What might be your Crown and anchor level? My wife and I are diamond plus and have been on 30+ cruises with RCL, and never been invited to the Capt.'s table,boo-boo :(. Still trying as we will be on the liberty of the seas December 7, 2013 celebrating our 46th wedding anniversary with another couple.
