guarantee room assignment ?

we have never booked a guarantee room before but did for this trip, we usually stay on a mid to upper deck in a mid to aft cabin however we just got our guarantee assignment which is deck 1 (Riviera) on Conquest and our extreme foward cabin is the 4th one from the front of the ship, very disappointed but the travel agent says there is nothing we can do, any chance of getting it changed by Carnival once we are at the pier ? has anyone been in this situation, will we feel the motion terribly ?

I would say no chance for free. If you want to select your cabin you would have to pay the difference either before your cruise or if its a slack season, you might be able to pay at the ship, but often its so sold out it would cost even more the day of sailing.

Myself, I would get over it. Its a longer walk, better luck next time. I have gotten what I paid for like you did and sometimes better, but whatever it was I always went with it. Its what you paid for, so how can you complain?

We've been in far forward cabins on a few ships, though not on the lowest deck. However it was not a big deal.

In fact the worst cabin we ever had was midship just past the atrium. It was SO LOUD that we couldn't sleep some nights. I'd take all the way forward over that any day.

Certainly not a Carnival defender but I don't know why you are very disappointed? Didn't your TA advise you that you could be assigned any cabin?

I think if you are disappointed you should be disappointed that your TA didn't advise you.

No fault with CCL on this one.

I hope you still enjoy your cruise.:)

Interesting. I have always been told around these boards that nobody would ever get assigned a lower category than 4A, yet you did. Yours is a category PT, which is considered to be lower than 4A, although priced the same. Thank you for sharing.

Although I can understand you feeling like you lost, by getting the bare minimum requirement, I want to encourage you by saying that you (in reality) got a great room! My friends & I actually booked that exact type of room on another ship, because we love those types of rooms so much. Honestly, I'm shocked that you were assigned it, because those are extremely popular and usually sell out. Your room will be much larger than any standard interior room. Plus, you will have 2 porthole windows rather than no view at all. If I were you, I would feel like I won big time. For me personally, the only way up from a category PT (porthole) room is an oceanview. The PT is better than all of the actual interiors for me.

We usually try for one of these types of rooms on deck 2, but we are booked in deck 1 on the Dream. Getting off/on the ship in ports or for debarkation is so easy. Getting to the dining rooms or the nighttime entertainment is so easy. The only time you need elevators is when the elevators aren't busy. These forward rooms do feel more motion than midship rooms, so just come prepared for that. I have slept very well & been very comfortable in porthole rooms. I found the motion to be soothing, unless the seas are rough, but everyone would be feeling it then. Even the sound of the waves hitting the bow of the ship, I find to be soothing.

I USED to read that but in the last year there has been post after post that this has changed and for the last year or two you CAN get even a 1A, so if the OP got a PT better than a 1A where the beds dont push together.

I just wanted to clear this up and spread the word so people knew they could get a 1A too.

Personally I prefer the lower decks. Why? The elevator is never full when you are going to dinner. Motion is less in rough water the lower you are and being way forward means you probably won't have many (any) loud talking drunks wandering past your door at 2AM. And the extra walking will help burn up the extra calories. I'd be more interested in what's above me than what deck I'm on. Finally, unless you book a balcony you probably won't even be able to tell what deck you are in once in your cabin.

I have had a room on the lowest deck where you are. we never had a problem. sometimes you could see the water splash up to the porthole which was cool. You decided to save money and take a gamble and basically had to take what room was left over. I have never booked a guarantee room, I like to choose the deck im on, don't care if im fwd, aft or mid. The only person you can be upset with is your TA if they didn't tell you the rules of a gty cabin. go with an open mind and enjoy your cruise. it isn't bad at all. plus....when you are at port...you are right there to get off!! no waiting for an elevator. when you return from the port...1 flight of stairs, no waiting for an elevator.

Last year we were in 1207 on the Valor because that is what we booked. It is a 1A with one bed and a convertible sofa. It was fine. Very quiet, very near the stairs down to deck 0 to go into port and very close to our room when we returned from port hot and tired. As the ship was docking or leaving a port we did hear and feel lots of vibration, but that was it. Go with a positive attitude and you'll be fine.

look to see what the price difference is and upgrade to a cabin that you are more comfortable with

My friend did guarantee and we did porthole on our last cruise- they ended up getting the porthole right next to ours! When I booked the room I had no clue about which room was best so I figured I would get a window and it would be cheaper- no problems there. We actually LOVED our rooms. The only issue was when the ship pulled into port we could hear the machines working in a muffled sound (anchor maybe?). That was fine though, I was usually up by that time and if I was sleeping I would probably want to wake up anyway. My husband can sleep through anything so I would usually hit the gym and then grabbed a light breakfast (ie: tea and fruit) until he woke up and then we would hit the buffet together.

Don't be discouraged!

Enjoy your room- I wish we had a porthole this time- our room would have been cheaper lol!

I'm sorry that I didn't realize what the OP may have been referring to. My mind only went to those PT rooms which are 4 from the front, room #s 1216 & 1217. For some reason, I didn't think that the OP may be referring to the true interiors 4 from the front, which would be either 1215 or 1214. So lbtnewcruiser, if your room is one of those, I apologize for getting your hopes up. 1215 & 1214 do not have portholes. Those are indeed regular interiors, the lowest category of standard interiors (category 4A). While that wouldn't be as good as a PT, you do have the the other advantages mentioned here: easy off/on in port, convenient to dining rooms and nightly entertainment, very little foot traffic, don't need elevators when the demand for elevators are the highest. Those rooms will not hear the waves hitting the bow of the ship like the PT rooms would, so that could be an advantage over the PTs. I have had one cruise way forward, about 4 rooms from the front on the lowest deck, and it was just fine. The higher-up rooms of the same type are not any nicer or larger.

My wife an I booked a PT room on our next cruise, usually we book the aft. But as far as walking goes, we take the elevators getting on the ship and getting off the ship, every day in between we walk everywhere, and our next cruise we will be on the ship for 10 days :) We do it to try an minimize the weight gain :(

Thank you for the clarification and pointing out the good things about our location, I will board smiling :) , yes it is cabin 1215, I am very excited to be cruising the Conquest out of NOLA to celebrate my 50th with my hubby who planned the whole trip. I usually plan it so he wasn't aware of the difference of a guarantee. I appreciate your feedback, as the first comment implied I was "complaining" and "getting what I paid for" I was merely asking if there was any chance of being moved not having booked a guarantee before I was a bit disappointed thinking about the motion. The boards are so helpful aside from a few "rudies" thanks again to all that gave positive feedback.

I think some are mislead about "guarantee" cabins. There are different levels of guarantees. If a person books in a balcony guarantee, for instance, you will not be assigned a PT or inside rate cabin. So, the OP got her guarantee according to a lower category that was booked.

By the way, PT's are great. A bit more walking, but better than being stuck with no outside light.

We stayed in a forward cabin on the dream. The only time noise bothered us was when they were dropping the anchor down in the mornings when we arrived in port. We asked our room steward to bring us a fan for noise and he did. After that, we had no problems sleeping through the noise

We were in a foward room on the last cruise and it was very quiet. TBH, it was a little too quiet for my taste because I like to keep a dry erase board on my door for people to leave notes and on my last cruise, we only got a couple. On past cruises, my board has been filled with notes every day.

Unfortunately that's the risk with a guaranteed room. We were way in the front some years back, the anchor dropping each morning woke us up. If you like the feeling of swaying back and forth and hearing the waves crash against the side of the ship while in bed, you will love the front. Some people like that. If you think those things may bother you, you may be able to upgrade at a cost if the ship isn't full.
