Velvetwater Posted August 5, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2013 Hubby and I want to set up our sign and sail using cash. We are sailing from Dover and going round Europe. We want to know (from people that have sailed round Europe with CC) what cash did you deposit into your sign and sail? Can you use pounds? Or does it have to be euros/dollars? Thanks :)
JohninDC Posted August 5, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 5, 2013 The last time I did a european cruise the currency on the hsip was dollars; you can deposit pounds onto your account, but they will be converted to dollars and all of the drinks, shops, etc. are priced in dollars. Good luck! :)
rosepetal_irl Posted August 5, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 5, 2013 Currency onboard is based on ships registration port. If its registered in US then its dollars We were on MSC out of Rome in 2010 and it was euros but our upcoming cruise on Epic out of Barcelona is dollars. If you check out the cruiseline website it'll tell you more about onboard currency. We are watching exchange rates and buying at a decent rate here before setting up our account onboard...just in case thsy give a lower rate plus any other charges! We dont use credit cards but I'm sure if you had one it'd be easier to charge all to this Since you're leaving from Dover then you'll need sterling for incidentals taxi...food. ..shopping in port etc...Euros in Europe ports etc. Hope this helps Sent from my GT-I8190 using Forums mobile app

Aplmac Posted August 5, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 5, 2013 Whatever is the currency-on-board ..you make sure to deposit That Currency. Never use the ship as a bank, because the exchange rates they use will be decidedly in their favor -and not in yours! Been there, had that done to me. . Velvetwater Posted August 5, 2013 Author #7 Share Posted August 5, 2013 Thanks for the advice. The Carnival website was less than helpful due to it ebing US based and geared towards US based questions (We live in the UK so it is muche asier for us to set up an account with pounds due to exchange rates). I think our ship is registered in Panama (Legend). Good to know we can use pounds. :) I dont mind the dollar pricing on board as its easy to convert them into pounds prices in my head. :)
