ducky530 Posted August 5, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2013 What do you find is the best way to keep in touch & communicate with friends onboard? Do you use walkie-talkies? Do you use a magnetic dry erase board hung on your cabin door? If you do, do you find the marker always "disappears"? Or do you just keep the marker with you? ...... Just curious & open to suggestions..........(Our January cruise will be the first we are taking with a larger group.)

Or just arranging ahead of time to meet up a X place at X time. Our last cruise with others, we just "planned" on meeting for dinner each night, however we often would cross paths with them during the day. The ships aren't all that large, and you most likely will run into the others in your groups often.

A little reading on the board would reveal the walkie talkie question has been beaten to death. Yes, some people take them. However, there are several issues with them. Not consistent reception by any stretch of the imagination. Illegal in many other countries. Can be very annoying to others around you. And just not needed. A little planning, some plain old fashion communication, post it notes and cabin voice mail works very well. Have taken several groups with larger groups. Never once have taken walkie talkies. Never once have had any issues with not being in 24/7 communication.
cb at sea Posted August 5, 2013 #4 Share Posted August 5, 2013 I second the "planning"....at a meal...whichever meal you want, make tentative plans until the next together meal! It's really not as hard to find each other as you are thinking, especially if you have some idea of where to look! You'll find that each person will gravitate to the same areas over and over.....hubby knows I'll be at the pool if I'm not in the cabin.....I know he'll be in the casino if he's not in the cabin! He gets ready for dinner before me, and then I meet him at whatever bar we've chosen, and the evening begins!
marco Posted August 5, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 5, 2013 We travel annually with a large group. As above posters stated, post-its, voice mail, and have dinner every evening together. Folks can plan the evening and next day whilst at dinner. And it's as easy as "See by the pool around 11"," Let's meet for a cocktail in the "xxxx" lounge at 4" " See you at the breakfast buffet around 9". We find it best when everyone does not feel conjoined at the hip and kind of does their own thing and when they run into each other, fine, and if they want to do something specific with someone, they'll find a way to communicate. SnowDiamonds Posted August 5, 2013 #6 Share Posted August 5, 2013 walkie-talkies. It is so convenient and helps you feel free to part ways to do your own thing and meet up if and when you feel like it later. No waiting around for anyone. When my friend wasn't ready for what I wanted to do and needed a few more minutes, I could leave and not miss anything, and she could take her time as she liked and meet up with me at her convenience. So nice. No fighting with anyone to be on your timeline.
cruiserking Posted August 5, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 5, 2013 The best way to keep in touch is via email. You can use the ship's computers and buy a small plan to cover a few daily emails. You can also find a port side kiosk to send emails, just ask the crew they will all be heading to the closest one. You can reach people by cell phone but, be aware you will pay a hefty amount so keep the calls short. Jonathan

Not others back home. I would think the email thing would be pretty inefficient for onboard communication.

trish1c Posted August 6, 2013 #10 Share Posted August 6, 2013 Post-it notes. Voice mail on room phone. Or just arranging ahead of time to meet up a X place at X time. This. Plus as the week shakes out people will develop "their" places on board where others can find them. I'm always on a high sundeck aft when people are looking for me. ducky530 Posted August 6, 2013 Author #11 Share Posted August 6, 2013 Thanks for all the info ...... Although I think it would be pretty awkward if we didn't at least "talk to each other!!!!!! Bonnie J. Posted August 7, 2013 #12 Share Posted August 7, 2013 You can call each other's cabins and leave voice mail for them, use post its, tell them where you'll be. always do our own thing but tell our cruise buddies where we'll be on deck, they tell us where they'll be. just do what you want to do , not what someone else wants you to do!!!!!!!!!! Talk about your day at dinner.
