Carnival bumped me back to red status for my VIFP....

Hi all....

I know I'm probably whinning, so sorry in advance, but I have to say when I booked my cruise on the Dream for the 6th of Dec, I found out I was in the "RED" instead of my Gold Card. What a bummer! I only need 2 days to be bumped up again, and when I emailed Carnival, they sort of blew me off. I know "no big deal", right? Well, I was proud of the fact that I had gotten a "Gold" card.

Question, the little perks I did get like the Captain's party.... will I still get this? I have friends that are going with us that are VIP, so I know they will be getting some perks, but I'm disappointed that they couldn't make an exception. After this trip, I will be back up to Gold. Anyone else ran into this? I had hoped I would have been grandfathered in..... Nope.

Also, my first Big Ship, and we are staying in a Cloud 9 Spa Room.... Any good tips or tricks? I've heard and read horror stories about the lines for food, and such. Want to avoid this as much as possible.

Thanks for the advice in advance.....

Since you only need two more days to reach Gold, which you will get on your Dream cruise, you should be issued a Gold card when you board!! And you will be invited to the VIFP party and get your Gold pin!!

If you only need two days to get to Gold, then you will be gold this trip, unless your cruise is shorter than two days, or I'm misreading what you're saying.

Also, if you are gold you will be invited to the past guest party with the free drinks. If you're Red you will not be invited. You will, however, get a coupon for a free drink during brunch in the MDR only.

Same thing happened to us!

We were about 3 days short of Gold -and so we were temporarily Red.

But when we checked-in for our 7 day Valor cruise in June, we turned New Gold during that cruise

and so we were issued Gold cards at check-in

as I suspect will you. ;)

Your new Gold card will look similar.

If you truly and honestly believe in your heart that the "horror stories" about lines for food are unbearable and people are going hungry aboard the Dream, then pack a bag of your own prepared food that can easily be enjoyed in your cabin or on deck. Or order room service.

There is no captain's party. I dont see that mentioned.

Its long since gone, like a few years ago. I think they might do $1 off drinks in the promenade area for captains night.

There will be a past guest party and a free drink coupon you will get since you turn gold on this cruise, you will get a gold card.

Join the club.. when they changed the loyalty last year there were many posts. As platinum I lost at least 3 perks.

You really musn't believe all the negative Stuff & Nonsense you read here at Cruisecritic.

98.765% of it is false..

as you shall quickly discover when you board one of Carnival's newest ships afloat

and has been afloat long enough now for the bugs to be all worked out!

Bon Voyage and please come back to let us know what a great cruise you had

as a Gold-card-carrying member of Carnival's VIFP Club.

thanks your reply.... I didn't mention that this is a 7 day-er Western Carribean, and no they didn't bother to tell me I would turn gold on this trip or my card would be gold.... That would have eliminated this wonderful post!!!

Avoid the buffet if you don't like lines. Room service, MDR, and speciality restaurants will be your friend.

I'm speculating that since CCL is grandfathering people into the old levels (# of cruises instead of days) until the end of this year, that next year people would not change levels until after the full cruise is taken.

I don't know, but that sounds about right.

Horror stories?! Really?

Sure we've waited in line sometimes at the buffet, or the hamburger place, but I wouldn't consider it a horror story. We've waited far more and longer for land restaurants than we ever have on a ship!

Don't believe all the negative stuff (drama, angst and lamenting)you read on here. IMO, a lot of people are unhappy and impossible to please -- basically just big whiners!

What amazes me is that the buffet is The Only Place To Eat On Board Ship!

There are zero other alternatives!

Not True...we are at the Diamond level and have been on "days" for awhile now...also, when my DW reached her Diamond level, it was during a cruise, and she got her Diamond card during check-in at the terminal FYI

If the 7 days totals 25 days when added to your previous days sailed then you will be gold for this cruise. If you are 2 days short as in this seven day cruise added to your previous days sailed comes to 23 then you will remain red.

What you have to remember is that on here, you are reading people's opinions. Just because one thinks the ship is crowded doesn't mean that everybody else does or just because one thinks it's not crowded doesn't mean that everybody else thinks that way too. Same with lines. It all depends on what time you go to the buffet. Go a little later for lunch or dinner...not too bad. Go early for breakfast...not too bad. Go when everybody else does...pretty bad. That's my experience and my opinion. Others may be different.
